Pacific Rim - Part 3

The two brain thing doesn't come as a surprise to me. The dinosaur reference was odd. But I think it could....maybe be a reference to Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla 2.

That movie established Godzilla had a second brain to control the lower half of his body because he was so big.

But I don't give it much thought. It's just auxiliary information for the universe.

Just to give you guys an example of how wrong tracking can be sometimes,

White House Down bombed and fell well below tracking numbers. It was tracking at about $40 million and it did even lower than that.

Considering we already had Olympus Has Fallen for our "President in danger" movie back in March it's no surprise people didn't flock to see it again.

Pacific Rim at least has the fortune to not be almost a direct copy of other movies recently out.

Let's see, recently, tracking was wrong for The Great Gatsby, for Man Of Steel (mostly), for World War Z, for Monsters University, for White House Down indeed, and for other movies as well, tracking is whack.

So there's a review out there that said there is a small scene at the end of the first set of credits. No mention on what it is, but there ya go.

I wonder if WHD failure and a The Lone Ranger disappointment will help Rim because I think it could. Maybe people without children will be looking for an action adventure movie. That's just one thought though, I'm still predicting 40mil until I see this amazing last minute marketing plan.

Pacific Rim already should appeal to kids somewhat.

Tracking is so low for Pacific Rim right now chances are it can only go up. so that's a good thing.

which is unfortunate because I think there are some good stories to tell within the subgenre.
I wanna see a G Gundam movie. Can you imagine its unbelievable cheese in live action form? It will be something to behold.

"Burning fingaaaaa"

I thought Charlie Day was fine in the clip. I don't have any problem with it at all, except the dinosaurs having two brains thing, but that could just be his character's craziness or whatever. Hardly his fault anyway. This movie is gonna rule.

This movie actually reminds me of G Gundam a bit since each country has a mech much like the show.

i dont know about G Gundam it was cheesy as f*** like you said. But I think Gundam Wing could be great. Kind of like The Dark Knight of mecha movies...kinda

From Alex at First Showing who just did the PR press rounds in San Fran this weekend:

"Pacific Rim - Giant monster vs giant robot fights are extremely awesome, worth it for those alone. Would've lost my mind if I was still 12."

- Q: For those of us not 12?

"It's still very entertaining, just not a home run."

Haven't seen any other public critical reactions that have been as... honest, as this yet. Can't remember the last time he didn't sing praises of a movie he's heavily promoting.

WOM should still be decent if its still entertaining.

Since tracking is so bad, the only way to go is up.

Very positive but coming from him, it does surprise, he usually loves everything. I don't understand the "If I was still 12" remark, it's not a prerequisite that you need to be 12 to lose your s hit at this, I lost it when seeing the Wondercon trailer especially.

In general you are more easily wowed/impressed when you are 12.

I get that, but unless you lose that childlike wonder, that ability to just marvel at something, it doesnt mean anything.

I think the point is if you are simply there for the wonder, then you will have a great time. If you are looking for a great film, something with a little depth, you won't find it.

I'm 32 and haven't lost any of my childlike wonder. Odd but true.
