People need to learn how to speak English in America.

Its the immigrants right to learn english or not, they wont be forced to. Nobody is being told they have to leanr Spanish. WOuld it make things easier if immigrants learned english? Sure, but realistically speaking, only a small percentage will. And I dont think they should be forced to either. Really, its their loss.

FINALLY!!!!! You finally almost understand my point. I feel that immigrants should be required to learn the language of the country they are moving to. Moving to Germany, gotta learn German. Gonna live in Italy, pick up Italian. Relocating to Japan, you're gonna nead Japanese. It's not just moving to America, learn English, but any country.

this thread is old.

that's all i will contribute to this thread.

"Besame culo" I understand, but "azotado" completely loses me.

Damn straight. The only real way to learn a language is to go somewhere and live there, work there, soak it up. And odds are it's gonna take a while. I plan to move to France for good next year to do just that, and luckily, if the near year I spent there last year is any indication, they aren't anywhere near as snooty about it as our country can be. If you even try there, they get really happy even if you're butchering it.

Good luck with that. There are many english speakers there but people prefer it if you make an effort to try to seak french. It also depends where in France you go.

With the logic you just laid out, wouldn't it make more sense to say that if you move to America, you have to learn American? And, exactly what IS the American language, anyway, but an amalgam of many, many others? If you're going to live in England, THEN maybe you should think about learning English. ;)

Yeah, I would agree with you except for that part about you being completely wrong and everything. :) And you do realize that there were and are 100's of Native American dialects?

Are we counting American Sign Language as a language because that would be my fifth langauage. English, Spanish, French, Pig Latin, and ASL.

No, because then I'd have to deal with people doing the wrong dance all the time and I'd have to give them a beat down (while dancing, of course) to make sure they knew they were wrong.
