Person Of Interest - Part 3

Man, I am so hyped for the final - I've been re-watching season 1 to see if they pick up some of the original threads. I've loved all of the Nolan-written episodes so I'm really fired up for this one.

Hope all you other irrelevants are as excited as I am !
I'm somewhat prepared for Denise Thé to rip my heart out. AGAIN.

The only person I'm somewhat convinced will make it out alive tonight is Shaw

‘Person of Interest’: EPs Talk ‘X-Files’ & ‘Batman’ Influences, AI Portrayal & Taraji P. Henson Regrets Ahead Of Series Finale

One of the things I’m proudest of…in any given situation with a TV show the ratings are always declining. It always barrels towards every show winds up essentially having to…there’s always a negotiation. For us it was this last season of having 13 episodes to wrap things up. Would we have liked to have more, sure. Whatever. I mean the bottom line with the show was we weren’t doing it for the Emmy nominations. We weren’t doing it for the critical kudos. But the people who found the show and loved the show loved it so much. You’re never prouder. Their reaction, their absorption and satisfaction with the show, that for me was the reward. We’re very grateful for their support over the years and for their passion. We really hope they enjoy these last couple episodes.

My money is on Fusco, as he's the only one with family. Can't see Shaw walking away from this one, probably not Finch either and I'd say John is 50/50. He'd clearly die protecting Finch, maybe they die together ?

In some way I always hoped Finch would get a happy ending with Grace - maybe Nolan will do a Dark Knight Rises, and have Finch appear dead, but secretly escape. Fingers crossed.

Massively psyched for this.

tonight's the night... oh man oh man oh man... there's no good ending to this... I'm so worried for the team... :csad:

I'm so nervous for the finale, but I also totally trust Jonah Nolan, Denise Thé, & Chris Fisher to deliver.

Its finally over :csad:

I almost want to delay watching it. I'm not ready. :waa:

Anyway, I just watched the last 2 eps so I'm all caught up now for tonight's finale. Really liked seeing the previous nos helping out our gang. The moment I saw them I kinda figured that Harper and Co were doing the same job as our gang. That would explain Nolan's comments about a possible reboot. Seeing Shaw and Reese working again as a duo was nice as well. And of course Fusco not being in the dark was a delight.

The 2nd to the last ep made me all sorts of emotional especially the Finch/Machine interactions and the alternate realities without the machine. I wouldn't say just different like what Finch said but their lives were really better off with the machine (Carter aside I guess).

And let's give Acker a huge round of applause. Even as the Machine, her voice work is incredible. It's not just your typical monotone line reading but instead you get a multitude of emotions (fear, teasing, etc.) from her voice. It's just as if it's the real live Root talking.

I'd love for all of them to make it but since we know it's not happening, I really hope Fusco makes it. The guy has a son. At least the others have much less to lose. I have a feeling they will relocate Root's grave (along with her real name) beside whomever else is going to die. At least I hope so...

15 more mins... :(

The first scene was already the best scene of any TV show I have ever seen. It was better than most movie scenes. In fact, it was better than the entirety of some movies that come out today. (And that have come out, and that will come out, I'm not gonna be a chronological snob :P)

I was not ready for that...

That could be the last time the gang is all together... :waa:

damn, this episode has me on the edge of my seat and it's just killing me...

That last scene... Just put me out of my misery!

It's not even over yet and I don't think I've cried this much in a show. :(

Oh wow... That was a [blackout]much happier ending than I anticipated. I was pleasantly surprised by that. I'm guessing Finch will be completely out but the Machine lives on and Shaw will continue on (with maybe Fusco). John's death hurts a lot but I get it. It's one of the most emotional death scenes for me and like what I said, I've never cried that much.[/blackout]

I LOVE YOU SO MUCH SHOW. You deserved so much more. :hrt:

damn damn DAMN and F*** CBS for never really realizing the gem that they had on their hands...

RIP [blackout]Mr. Reese[/blackout]

Sarah's face on the 'Arrow' scene... Holy ****...

I'm gonna miss this show :(

Well, if it had to go, at least it went out on a high note.

The message to Shaw. :waa: Was really satisfying seeing her shoot Blackwell.

All the chats with the machine were just wonderful. Gave a lot of insight into her, which has been one of my favourite aspects of the series. They've done a great job really fleshing the machine out as a character as much as any of the human ones. And the pact with John was a nice touch and end for him.

One thing I had expected to be addressed this episode was Root knowing the password for Ice 9 as hinted at last week and confirmed in the commentary. I expected something to come from that, but I suppose that's left to the imagination in the end.

I've had a few issues with this season (Shaw's return should have been an episode all to itself instead of the C-plot to The Voice, Ice 9 needed to be introduced earlier, I have a lot of issues with Synecdoche, Root going to pick up some missiles with the guy from QSO not going anywhere in the end), but it's been a good season overall and it ended on a nice, fittingly hopeful note.

Though, uh...don't we still have mini machine and mini Samaritan sitting in the Faraday cage, safe from the virus? I feel like that should have been mentioned this episode, considering how much dealt with the backup of Samaritan and the machine's core codes. I think that, and some of my other issues like when Ice 9 was introduced, Shaw's return being a C-plot and the missiles leading to nothing probably are a casualty of them finding out late in the game they only got 13 this season, if memory serves I remember them saying they only found out a few weeks before shooting on the premiere. A shame.

Hope this score doesn't take as long as seasons 3 and 4, there are some phenomenal pieces.

Agreed about your issues with the season. But I can forgive them because of the CBS interference. Michael Emerson even mentioned in an interview yesterday that Nolan & Plageman were more than willing to battle CBS. And this season's high notes were SUPER HIGH.

I loved how the finale went for emotional closure instead of something that might be too grandiose.

I loved Root's message to Shaw. It's like what The Machine said, "What is love, if not being seen?"

Holy crap, that scene on the rooftops. Caviezel, Acker, and Emerson were wonderful. That shot of Machine!Root's hand on Reese's shoulder?! That crushed me.

I loved how the final scene mirrored the pilot's.

Real talk: Sarah Shahi is this season's MVP. She's fantastic.

Yeah, they hit a lot out of the park this season. Delivered two of the most emotional episodes with this and 6,741 and ended the series in a great fashion.

Everything with Machine Root was great, especially that monologue about death and later about the second half of "everyone dies alone..." Speaking of, one of the funnier moments from this episode I thought was Finch's line something like "Perfect. You find out the secret of life...and you forget it." Also John later "I like this new side of you. It's scary, but I like it."

Yeah, she got a lot of great material this season as we got to see more of what makes Shaw tick. Gave one of the best single episode performances of the series in 6,741, in my eyes.

Oh, and neat that they used Bunsen Burner from Ex Machina in this episode. Not sure if the connection is intentional, but it's funny since they have similar subject matter. It was bugging me the whole episode where I had heard that before until someone posted it elsewhere and it clicked.

Just wow. So emotional yet probably the best ending you have asked for since they didn't just kill everyone off. While you could tell that there were some storylines they wanted to add and expand on heading into the finale, I thought they wrapped it up pretty cleanly.
When John got locked in the vault, I seriously thought it'd be Finch sacrificing himself but with the way they snuck that conversation in between him and Grace earlier and how little John actually fought Finch's decision, I had a feeling that's not how they'd end John's story. I definitely welled-up in seeing him up there, sacrificing himself and fighting to the end, finally getting taken out by the Samaritan operatives and the cruise missile.
