Pokemon: The Original Series Talk

They have been doing flashbacks recently. They revisited the charmander episode, the butterfree episode, and possibly more to come as they reach Kanto once more.

And to think, it took almost 20 years for Ash to finally have his first on-screen battle with Giovanni in the anime.lol

:hehe: Giovanni didn't think much of Ash so he never bothers to reveal himself to him (sorry Ash just kidding :oldrazz: ) And even then, his Persian owned his Pikachu. If only they fought a proper Gym battle or showdown.

I'm watching the first episode of Pokemon the Origin. Loving it; the Charmander vs Squirtle fight is really well done.

Oh nice! So you're watching the Japanese dub, I presume?

And yet Team Rocket continues to go after Pikachu, thinking that their boss would love it, when it's been proven that Giovanni can beat it so easily.lol

So while Giovanni had to use mewtwo to defeat Gary, he only had to use his petting pokemon to beat Ash and his pikachu.lol

So just flashbacks from the original season? That's pretty neat. I wish they'd redo all the original season or two with that new animation. It looks really neat, kinda takes away from the nostalgia from the 90's but i love how they've just enhanced animation and kept the style the same.

I havent really kept up to date with Pokemon as of late. Any particular season/episodes that have similar vibes to the original seasons with the first 150 pokemon?

Well "similar" is a matter of opinion, but if you're looking for really good stroylines go to Sinnoh. They have a great rivalry between Ash and a guy named Paul.

So apparently Pokemon: Origins is the best thing since sliced bread?

A lot of people are saying it's incredible. :wow:

I'm going to check out the first episode now. I know it looked amazing just based on that initial trailer. Dem nostalgic feels.

Damn - the way you put it :funny:

Also, in this new animated short, Giovanni cleans house with Red for the most part. He really seems to know his stuff. I've always wondered what he'd be doing in the games after he disbanded Team Rocket.

It feels really good. I watched the Japanese version so I couldn't understand anything but I loved it. It's more to do with the games and it feels so cool! Of course, since it's only 4 episodes, some of the things become a quick montage so not everything is covered.

I don't know what it is with animated short films/series but I tend to love them a lot. First, the Black 2/White 2 thing and then the DC animated Green Arrow one. Now this one.

Charmander vs Squirtle was brutal compared to the fights in the anime.

Yes, I found the dub.

I watched it today and I quite liked it. I gave up on Pokemon like 13 years ago, but I had to watch it since it is based on the period of time where I actually cared about the story. It was really well done and covers what I consider that the main series should have done a long time ago.

To be fair, Red is pretty much clueless early on. Probably even more so than Ash. But in addition to that, he just unintentionally treats Charmander like a tool where he barks commands at him in excitement. He's also pretty unaware of other rules too.

I loved this. Also, this is probably because it's a short series, but he learns quickly and when he does, it's so sweet. The battles are brutally unforgiving and fast!

Well, I just saw the Pokemon Origins special myself, and HOLY CRAP!!!!

Why can't the main anime series be this GOOD??? I feel like the people in charge of this special actually approached this with a serious attitude because I didn't feel like there was a single dull moment that was cheesy or stupid.

"Red", as a character and the way he was portrayed, FAR surpasses Ash, that's for sure.

I mean Red actually had more character development in four episodes than Ash has had for the most part in nearly 20 years.

Seriously, tell the people in charge of Ash to kill off his character or to just fire the idiots in charge of the main anime and replace it with this.

Heck, imagine on how much more better the Pokemon anime would be if we got stuff like Origins or even the anime shown for Black and White 2's video game trailer on a daily basis.

This special just further proved on how pathetic the main anime is.

There was a time when Pokemon was amazing (when Takeshi Shudo R.I.P was in charge of the series). After his departure the series went downhill quickly. To the point where continuity was forgotten at times and characterizations (mainly Ash's) were butchered.

The Kanto, Orange Island, and the Johto arcs were easily the best.

I still think the series is good. As good as before? No. Still have good episodes and arcs? Absolutely.

The best rival in my opinion is Paul who came in Sinnoh, because he was the polar opposite of Ash, we had never seen that before.

Once in a blue moon but there hasn't been anything like the Shudo Pokemon era. What Pokemon needs to do is hire a damn good head writer. Get someone like Gen Urobuchi to spice things up a bit.

In terms of the actual games thing, I always wondered what Giovanni would be up to after his defeat, and how quickly he just disbanded Team Rocket. It's like he just left and his team was like WTF.

Has he returned in the games at all or has he been MIA since Red/Blue/& Yellow?

Taken from Bulbapedia:

A group of Team Rocket members tries to relaunch the old team. They take over Goldenrod Radio Tower, and broadcast a radio announcement intended for Giovanni. Only in HeartGold and SoulSilver is it revealed that Giovanni does hear the broadcast, from his hideout in Tohjo Falls - an event in the remakes involving a time-traveling Celebi allows Ethan and Lyra to travel back in time and defeat Giovanni at the same time the rest of Team Rocket is being defeated. Like before, once defeated, Giovanni will disappear. Later, in Kanto, it is revealed that Blue took over the Viridian Gym after his disappearance.

The Celebi event also reveals some of Giovanni's background from the three years between Generation I/III and Generation II/IV. While it was mentioned in FireRed and LeafGreen that Giovanni has a son with red hair, the son's identity wasn't revealed until the time-travel event in HeartGold and SoulSilver. As many fans speculated (and as was mentioned in the Pokémon Adventures manga series), this son is the rival of the Johto player character, Silver. Much of Silver's personality is a result of the treatment he received from Giovanni, which includes abandonment. Like many of Giovanni's other actions throughout the games, this reflects on his selfishness.

Also, to comment regarding the status of the current anime. Honestly, maybe it's because I was spoiled by the earlier seasons, but I feel like the stuff that we've been getting just comes off as lazy and unoriginal at times.

I think the biggest problem is that Ash is still portrayed as the same character that he's been shown as for the last 10 years.

He never wins a Major Pokemon League and he acts immature for someone with the amount of experience that he has. I mean Red, from Pokemon Origins, didn't come off as annoying or immature like Ash does every now and then.

And a lot of the episodes that they show as of late seem like filler material, with only a few episodes every now and then progressing a arc that only lasts for a handful of episodes.

Until they make a major change in their presentation of Ash, things are never going to be as good as they SHOULD/CAN be.

It would be nice to see Giovanni return as a stronger trainer and building up Team Rocket again.

Yeah, hopefully. I wouldn't mind if it's the same quality as B/W but please no reset for Ash.

I mean, I'd hope for more risky stuff but even if it's the same, I wouldn't mind. But the desire for something more will naturally remain.

There was new art of Giovanni released with the stuff for the XY anime.

I'm willing to bet that Giovanni will just serve the same role that he's been doing for the most part for the last decade where we just see shots of him talking to Team Rocket for their usual status updates of how they've failed this or that.

That's what I'm expecting, sadly. :( It was good that he got so involved in B/W but I hope he's not just back to his old chair ways.

Pokémon.

Nice name, but what do you mean?
