Pokemon: The Original Series Talk

First off thanks for all the great memories. I agree with a lot of what you all said and a lot of those were my favorites as well.

herolee: I think the connection with Ho-oh was explained a little. Ho-oh has always been a guide of sorts for Ash. It appeared in the first episode to show he was special then appeared again when he didn't know where to go and it showed up to send him to Hoenn. It's not much I know but it's subtle.

As for GS Ball I totally agree. We gave it to Kurt and never got it back! I too heard that it held Celebi but we never saw it afterward so....

SilentWarriorZ: It was a Dragonite....it was just a FREAKING HUGE ONE!!! I don't know why it was so huge but hey it's Pokémon right?

So yeah great episodes all around. Let's go to the next topic:

FAVORITE GYM BATTLE!!!!!

The original 8 gyms were pretty awesome. I've already heard some shoutouts before but let's get everyone involved.

Me personally it's all about Lt. Surge. He was big, a bully, and had a powerful Raichu. But it was Pikachu and his speed that won the day. Totally epic!

Oh and for all newcomers feel free to shoutout your favorite Pokémon moments!

True. Especially since he used Seismic Toss at the end. I love that move.

ahh I used to love watching Pokémon but quit watching it after Misty/Brock left. The show probably would have still been a success if they replaced Ash and let him finish his journey.

Yeah Misty and Brock leaving was hard (even though Brock came back until Unova). I'm not sure about the last part though. The show is still on and thus a success. I still watch it and many others do too.

Just saying...

I loved the first time in Kanto or something when Brock, Misty and Ash separated for the first time, that was emotional.

Damn, so many memories :(

I meant even if Ash had left the series would still go on to be successful probably.

Johto was awesome! Suicune, the different theme songs (all of which I have memorized) and the idea that there were more than 152 Pokémon (Mew is 151, Togepi 152)

Definitely great.

I remember when they came out with a new intro after the Kanto episodes, I think it was during the Orange Islands saga. I recorded the episode and re-watched it over and over, I thought it was so awesome that I had to show it to my mom.

Yeah the Orange Islands kicked it all off and now every new "Season" has a different theme song.

Was the episode with Aerodactyl and Charmeleon evolving in Charizard the only time where a Pokémon attempted to eat a human?

Probably not, but I can't think of another example.

That was a classic episode. So many things happened: The fight with the fossil Pokémon, charmeleon evolving, Ash finding Togepi's egg, an all time classic episode.

I need to rewatch some of these episodes. So many feels.

Classics indeed. I wonder if I'll like them now. Will be interesting to see!

Classics never fade in your memories. I can recall the first episode of Pokémon vividly and I still remember the awe I felt when we saw Ho-oh the first time. Looking back I still feel that way because that symbolized the beginning of an incredible journey. So I'm sure you'll feel the way you did before but with more respect because you know what's happened afterward.

BTW we're still polling everyone for their favorite Gym Battles! Post your favorite here!

I haven't been watching the show for ages, but i remember being very hyped about the final boss in the Orange Island with a pokeball as a necklace, with Dragonite as his main pokemon. It's a shame Ash never really becomes a champion

OK, I'm rewatching my fave episodes.

I watched

Charizard vs. Magmar
Gary Oak vs. Giovanni
Kanto Pokemon League
Charizard finally listening to Ash
Orange League
Pikachu vs. Eevee
Team Rocket and the 2 Red Gyarados episodes
Misty, Brock and Ash parting ways (so emotional!)
Team Magma and Team Aqua episodes

I also love watching the Pokemon Intros. I love them for the most part!

Hopefully more to come!

Lord: It really depends on what you define as a "champion". He won the Orange Islands, the Battle Frontier, and I think one other thing but yes he's never won a major league as it would diminish a part of the show. It's a quest to overcome all obstacles to finally win the big one, if he wins the big league then.....what? I heard the comic had the main character win and evolve and that's great for a comic but a tv show needs more.

Rogue_agent: Yep those are all classics. And I have all the intros memorized. Johto and Hoenn had the best intros.

Disagree in there, a tv show needs more? The comic has better writting than the tv show. Instead of having to revert Ash every season to make him a noob again the manga uses a new protagonist, and it's something that works.

The Johto seasons were horrible, but Kanto/Orange is generally good.

Johto is where the show goes into a repetitive rut of filler episodes with no character development, Ash gets rid of Charizard and Squirtle and Misty becomes a very flat character.

The show picks up again when Hoenn starts and Sinnoh is decent as well.

I stopped watching sometime during Johto and came back sometime during Hoenn, then stopped again and came back right before Battle Fronteir and enjoyed those episodes, then started Diamound/Pearl and stopped again, haven't watched a new episode since. I haven't even played the Black/White games.
