Pokemon: The Original Series Talk

Now hold on, doing the island hop wasn't all bad. We got to see some really great episodes, including some flashbacks to the original series. There was some cheesiness no doubt, but some of them were really good.

Perhaps, but unlike other filler arcs....there was nothing, no goal, for Ash to do.

In the Orange Islands, he competed for the Orange league and even after Hoen, he went for the Battle Frontier.

Here, it was just him cruising on a boat and waiting to get back home.

You know what I still can't figure out? If Pikachu is able to tie with a Latios, then how the hell does he keep losing?

The same reasons why Ash hasn't aged an day since the series started and why he needs to use the Pokedex on pokemon that he's encountered several times in the past....Plot Device...

actually he has aged, just not physically.

And I like to think of it the same way as the video games. Just because Pikachu is high-level doesn't mean he can't be beat.

True, but the same time, we've seen Pikachu beaten by pokemon that were just "starter pokemon"...pokemon that shouldn't have been nowhere near the level that Pikachu was at given it's long experience

Well the only one I can think of was against Drew's Snivy, but that was because Pikachu didn't have his electric attacks. So that one made sense...sort of.

Hey everyone!

Pokémon XY begins tomorrow on Cartoon Network! It's time for a whole new adventure!!! YES!!!!!

^Ooooohhhhh! Looks like a good time to jump in again! :D

The first New! (non-preview hour spoiled) episode of Pokémon aired today, and I'm very intrigued with where this adventure will go. Ash is back in top form in my opinion, Serena confirmed that she knows Ash, and our new companions will be fun to watch going forward.

X & Y, I hope you keep it up!

I actually liked the fact that they used a modified version of the original opening Pokemon Song from the Kanto series.

Also, they must have really gotten a bigger budget for this season since the animation for these past three episodes have been great.

Yeah the animation has gotten a lot better. Kotaku did a comparison a while back. They've confirmed the bigger budget too.

I need to start watching.

It has? Can anybody give a link with that? What about the plot? Is it finally moving forward with Ash as an actually advanced trailer?

Apparently, they got too much money and decided to actually use it :P

Yes, as I said Ash is showing his veteran experience. The battle between Froakie and Fletching was evident of that.

He still has his childlike energy and sense of wonder, but battle-wise he's doing well.

That's nice to know, years ago i dropped it due to how much it dragged the plot and discovering that the movies are non-canon, it also feels like they will never have a true final battle against Team Rocket or Giovanni himself, do the other villain teams get a conclusion?

Yeah, every other villainous teams (from the main games) have been given conclusions at least. Team Rocket is really the only organization that Ash has yet to completely defeat.

That's better than nothing i guess, makes watching certain storylines worth it, i'm certain that Giovanni will never receive a final battle, the show is for them pretty much like Doraemon, never-ending and with a bunch of filler episodes with characters that will never be referenced again, so it's good to know that in least there are some storylines that get resolved.

Crazy to think that this has already gone for some 800 episodes, anybody remembers some of those hilarious moments in the original show? like the Metapod vs Metapod fight?

Hell, it's crazier for me to think that we've gone on for 800 episodes and yet Ash has to yet to physically grow up or win at least ONE MAJOR Pokemon league. :o:oldrazz:

And yeah, the original Kanto anime was definitely a hell of a lot more funnier imho than its successors.

I think the franchise was at its prime back when Pokemon Gold and silver came out, along with the earlier episodes for Johto.

I think XY has a lot of potential. How much do they capitalize on? We'll just have to see.

So, who watched Pokémon today huh? It's episodes like this that show that Pokémon is so much more than the games show. Surskit beating Pikachu? Awesome! It'll be fun to see how Ash rebounds. I like it when they don't give him a win right away, make him earn it.

Also, Serena and Ash meet up! But how do they know each other?!?!?!? It's killing me that I don't know.

Anyone know why the first Pokemon movie isnt on dvd/blu ray? Or why it was discontinued? Don't feel like hooking up my VCR to watch it.

I could tell you since I've been keeping up with the Japanese episodes.

Don't Read if you don't want to be spoiled though...
Basically Ash and Serena met years ago at Professor Oak's Summer Camp when they were young. When Serena had gotten lost in the forest one day, Ash had come across her injured. He helped her up and led her to safety while giving her a handkerchief to use, which is the same one we saw Serena give back to Ash.

On another note, the battle animations are definitely such a big improvement over the previous seasons.
