Prometheus - Part 8

I also thought David liked what he did to Holloway he asked him if he would do any thing to find out the answers and he said yes.

Yeah David asked Charlie if he would do anything to find answers and Charlie agreed so David gave him the goo. Charlie was David's little experiment but I don't think David knew it would kill.

It's hinted at when Vickers and David have the "What did he say?" conversation/slight scuffle.

So that happens before the infection takes place? Like I said I don't remember, but I thought that David/Vickers confrontation took place after that.

David reports back to Weyland that all the creators are dead. Weyland tells David to try harder...find the creators. Vickers wanted to know what Weyland said. Vickers sees that a 'dog' has stopped at a door and David goes to investigate. Vickers tells David to let her see only in her room what he is seeing. He shuts it off and explores himself and finds what he was looking for. Then he comes back and they prep Weyland to go see. Think of David and Vickers as competitive siblings.

Between then, David brings back the mysterious goo to see what it does. Whether that was on his own accord or per insturction....who knows.

My thoughts:

I liked it but the complaints are mainly:

-How did the scientists, one of whom was in charge of 3D-mapping the site/ship and had a video screen of his digital "dogs" on his suit, get lost?
He only knew where his "dogs" were. The people onboard Prometheus saw what the dogs were mapping, not him.

-Why would Holloway become bitter after only being on the moon for six hours and finding one dead alien body (which still partially proved his theory)?
Because he wanted to meet a living being he could ask questions, and then found out the only people who could answer his questions had been dead for 2,000 years.

-Why would a biologist pet a mutant snake after being scared earlier of hearing there is a life form out here.
That part was foolish on Milburn's part.

-How did the geologist come back to the ship after having acid sprayed on his face?
Because he was mutated by the black goo into a super-strength zombie?

-Why didn't David or anyone else check on the mutant baby Shaw had (I personally think there is a deleted scene that will be in the DC of David seeing it is still alive, smiling and locking it inside that room or something to that extent)?
I don't think everyone on Prometheus even knew about the baby, and those who did dismissed it becaused they thought it was dead. David was doing Weyland's bidding trying to find a key to immortality. I doubt Weyland was very interested in a dead baby squid creature. David would have been curious, but he had more pressing matters to attend to.

-Why did Shaw and Vickers feel the need to run straight from a narrow ship that was falling directly at them?
That was dumb.

-If there were more ships on the moon, why did the Engineer choose to chase and kill Shaw as opposed to just going straight to another ship and completing his mission?
Because he was pissed and wanted to kill her?

And then there are some that aren't plot holes but people were unhappy about (I not being one of them) and lump them in with other complaints.

-Why did David infect Holloway? (Because it's implied he was given those orders by Weyland and it was an experiment to do before finding an engineer. It is up to the viewer why David may have picked Holloway as it's not stated if Weyland said him or just anyone)
I don't think it's made clear Weyland ordered David to infect Holloway, although I think it was implied by the David/Vickers corridor dialogue. Maybe Weyland wanted to know what the black goo would do, and if it was some Fountain of Youth thing, so David tested it on Holloway to see what happened. David was also naturally curious himself, and may have used Holloway as a guinea pig of his own initiative. I got the impression he also got a measure of satisfaction from specifically infecting Holloway because of the way Holloway was a dick to him.

-Is Vickers a robot? (She's not. She clearly feels true resentment that her father, besides refusing to die and relinquish power to her, prefers his robot creation over her. She even has sex with Janek to prove it to him and also the audience.)
I don't think so. The whole reason for her resentment was that she's Weyland's biological child, but he shows more affection for a robot than her.

-Was that Earth at the beginning of the movie? (Yes.)
Obviously.

-What did David say to the Engineer? (It is clearly up to the audience to decide if he genuinely relayed Weyland's questions or if he said something else to provoke the reaction. Depends how you want to read both David and the Engineer species.)
No way of knowing. I suspected he might have deliberately tried to sic the Engineer on Weyland and said something like "they are here to steal your ship, I am not one of them". Can't know for sure though. If the Engineers were planning to destroy Earth 2,000 years ago, maybe he would have been hostile no matter what. He certainly jumped straight back into the game plan by trying to take his ship and the black goo to Earth.

-Did the aliens create life on Earth? (Yes.)
At least human life, I believe, is the clear implication.

-Why did they create us and why do they want to destroy us? (It's up to the viewer. There are number of credible theories that convincingly point to allusions towards Christianity as well as Sumerian creation myths or just personal readings of the Engineers. It's up to you....and/or a sequel).
Up to interpretation. Ridley Scott says Prometheus was based on Persian myths, in which case the Engineer at the beginning was a sacrifice to create humans from his remains to terraform the Earth, essentially. Some fans also theorize Christ was an emissary from the Engineers, and we angered them by killing him. That would approximately fit with the 2,000 years ago timeline. Or maybe we were just deemed a failed experiment and they were trying to "weed the garden".

There's more stuff, but I think that covers the basics.

Another interesting thing raised in that scene, androids are supposed to be heavy and pretty powerful, how was Vickers able to toss David into a wall? Only item that supports the [blackout]Vicker's is an android[/blackout] theory.

He's supposed to act as human as possible, including wearing a helmet he didn't need. Maybe he was just being passive and let her throw him around?

I agree that supports the other side of the camp. But Scott has stated there maybe two so it might be up to us to decide.

Wouldn't he be extremely heavy though?

btw I don't think she is one, but it seems to be a pretty popular theory across the internet.

I don't think we ever saw Vickers eat or drink either. She did sleep but Androids can sleep to put up a front.

I think it's left gray on purpose. Even Idris asks if she is an Android. It was meant not to be straight forward. At the least...she is a pleasure bot 3000.

Also...Weyland is over 100 years old. Vickers is at the most, 40. Weyland would have been around 70 when he conceived her.

David reports back to Weyland that all the creators are dead. Weyland tells David to try harder...find the creators. Vickers wanted to know what Weyland said. I got that and I remember David turning off his coms and shutting Vickers out, etc.

But doesn't all that happen after David has infected Holloway? I thought David infects Holloway pretty much right after they get back from their first excursion to the Jockey compound. I just can't remember if the infection scene takes place before Weyland tells David to "try harder." I thought it was after the infection scene but admittedly I don't quite remember.

I believe that question supports that shes not considering how she reacted to it. Unless she doesn't know that she is one.

I don't remember if he gives the dose after he is told to try harder or before. I would guess afterwards

I like the replys to those questions, when David talked to the engineer and the engineer like touched him David looked happy.

I can guarantee that the infection comes after the "try harder". Those scenes happen pretty close to one another but its after.

Just got back from seeing Prometheus. For the first our, I was really digging it and losing myself in some of the most impressive visuals I've seen since Scott made Blade Runner, and I spent last hour staring at the screen with my "WTF face".

Hmm I'll have to take your word for it I guess. But I'm still not quite sure because David takes the vial from their first trip to the Jockey compound and brings it back with him, and that definitely happens before the "try harder" scene because Weyland wouldn't have even known the mission results yet.

I thought he took the vial back to the ship, opened it, discovered the goo, gave the goo to Holloway, and after that the "try harder" scene occurs. But like I said I'll take your word for it.

Not sure what his motivation was for even bring the container back with him in the first place unless he was ordered to or was curious. Then after the whole storm they're testing the head. And once David reports what happens to the head he gets his "try harder" order. Vickers questions him, then he goes to get the goo and infects Holloway.

Hmmm that sounds right I guess. I suppose I remember it wrong.

It seemed like David had an agenda the whole time he was in the Jockey compound in the first place, what with his messing with controls and stealing vials and all. He's a secret ******* for sure.

He speaks to Weyland before. Then he checks out what's in the canister. Then he infects Holloway.

/I see you know that now. :p

Was Vickers an android? Who cares. Her being being or not being an android adds nothing of interest.
