But she could have survived being squashed by the Jockey ship if she was an android! :oldrazz:

I can see it now: "Not bad for a.......Jockey."

I thought the ambiguity of Vickers being/not being an android was really cool until she essentially outright says that she's not an android with the "father" line (which made me facepalm btw). I guess you could say the "father" line doesn't prove concretely that she's a robot but I don't see why they'd do it otherwise, really.

It doesn't really matter though. The whole father/daughter thing is so undercooked, that it makes no difference in the end. Vickers has no real character arc, and if she did come back in a sequel, it wouldn't make people gasp, it would make people groan.

I agree entirely.

Vickers said 'father' very sarcastically. She does not like her father and just wants him dead. He also said that David was the closest thing he ever had to a son...ouch. They hated each other. She wanted him dead so that he could take over.

Again, not to repeat this for the 80th time, but it really seemed like there was cut footage that addressed Vickers' character arc in more detail.

Not that I really minded that it was cut. It was probably the least interesting of all of the various character struggles.

I totally understand her motivations, but her whole arc is still undercooked. its never developed enough for it to have any emotional impact, especially when the brunt of it is told in a 3 minute exposition scene between her and Weyland.

I really won't be surprised if that's the case. I'm sure I said it earlier but I suspect a DC of this movie will improve it all around.

I definitely never thought he had a crush on Shaw. Though I could see maybe toward the end him developing a respect for her.

It kind of makes sense though. And given where Scott has gone with human and non-human relations in all his sci-fi films before, I would not be surprised.

I don't think it was developed because she is a cold *****. She doesn't need a backstory about how her dad never loved her to give her line any impact. It was just a way for us to see her motivations. Maybe it was the way Charlize delivered the line...

I rolled my eyes at the twist it was her father the first time I saw the movie. But like my initial dislike of Ash being a robot (it seemed so random) when I first watched Alien, it actually makes her character a lot more interesting upon second viewing and her relationship with David becomes even more complex and fascinating.

Do you guys thing that David tryed to screw over Weiland when he talked to the engineer?

It's not so much the revelation, though, but rather her lack of meaningful scenes altogether that makes her underdeveloped. If we had seen her trying (and failing) to take a more assertive role or something or maybe some more of David undermining her, the revelation might've had more impact. Basically, her character just needed more scenes to develop period.

And yes, it was the way Charlize delivered the line that made me facepalm. It was so cheesy.

No. I'm pretty sure when David was talking to the Engineer, he asked when Half-Life 3 was coming out. The Engineer then went into a rage because he intentionally put himself to sleep so he could wake up and finally play Half-Life 3. :o

Up to interpretation, though.

Up to interpretation. Ridley Scott says Prometheus was based on Persian myths, in which case the Engineer at the beginning was a sacrifice to create humans from his remains to terraform the Earth, essentially.

Yep. And what's interesting about that is the gods that created us in Sumerian mythology were forced to sacrifice their leader by their elder gods as a form of punishment. Hence why the lesser gods hated us and want to destroy us. This ties into what Ridley hints at in Prometheus about "who created the engineers" and concept art of the first scene which included a different type of alien forcing the engineer to drink the black liquid (similar to the particularly unique to that scene ship watching him drink it in the final film).

I think this is on the right track.

This.

These extra 30 mins in a director's cut, what do you guys want to see?

* More David?
* More Shaw?
* More Wayland?
* More Engineers?

Fassbender is amazing. What else has he been in?
He was in Inglorious Basterds and First Class. However I highly suggest you check out his films directed by Steve McQueen, Hunger and Shame. Amazing performances by him in both. Also, if you don't mind getting sad, give Eden Lake a go.

If you want to see Fassdong then Shame is for you.

Fassdong is a thing that needs to be viewed by everyone! :cmad:

For real though, Shame is cool beans.

What, no interest in more Fifield zombie? ;)

Naw ;)

I'm hoping they flesh out Shaw and go indepth why is is still a christian AND a scientist. I obviously want to see more David and I'm hoping for more Wayland (as a young man).
