Prometheus - Part 8

Naw ;)

I'm hoping they flesh out Shaw and go indepth why is is still a christian AND a scientist. I obviously want to see more David and I'm hoping for more Wayland (as a young man).

The thing that made me angriest in this movie is that the questions about Shaw and the Engineers aren't left unanswered to leave us in a state of wonder, they are left so that they can be answered in a sequel. I hate it when movies do this. I want to watch a story, not a prologue.

He was in Inglorious Basterds and First Class. However I highly suggest you check out his films directed by Steve McQueen, Hunger and Shame. Amazing performances by him in both. Also, if you don't mind getting sad, give Eden Lake a go.

Eden Lake........no film has ever inspired more anger in myself and my friends.
Just...Ugh :cmad:
Little punk needed his ass kicked.

Just watched it again in Real 3D...and IMAX 3D is the better of the two.

Anyways, this movie is so fantastic, I can't wait to give my parents traumatic experience watching this with them in the winter on Blu ray.

I don't know why people are complaining..yes it didnt have all the answers...but it was suspenseful from start to finish..the 3D was superior, the violence was spectacular...no PG13 BS like AVP...and Ridley Scott is making more, so we have 2 new chapters to look forward to.

Well said. I agree.

i just read an interview with Lindelof. he said that they first translated what David said to the engineer but Scott changed his mind and removed it.
which in a way is funny. because it looks like everytime they had an aswer or explanation in the script or in the editing room they removed it. i guess its easier to promote the sequel.

I haven't seen the movie or read this spoiler filled article but I thought you guys might be interested in it.

http://thinkprogress.org/alyssa/201...-pregnancy-and-the-persistence-of-patriarchy/

Thanks. Was waiting for someone to write an article about that. I agreed with it up until the end where she suggests that by taking David with her (when he's the only one of the two who can get them off that planet) it represents the acceptance/accomdation of rape culture and patriarchal dominance. I think it just represents these two characters/actors have too much great chemistry and he's too great a character to end the way the author seemed to want for the movie.

Its kinda interesting Shaw and David looking for the engineer planet with Shaw being human and David being a human creation.

I liked it but the complaints are mainly:

-How did the scientists, one of whom was in charge of 3D-mapping the site/ship and had a video screen of his digital "dogs" on his suit, get lost?

I found this on imdb .. not a bad answer.

At first given the mapping technology and Fifield's 'Pups' it would seem unlikely Fifield and Millburn would get lost. However, not only was Fifield panicked by the discovery there are a few factors that contributed to them losing their way. When Janek contacts them he states "between the static electricity and the wind speed were, well..." it is possible that the static electricity Janek mentions has affected the mapping technology. This coupled with Fifield's observation that "it all looks the same.."and that he may be disorientated due to his drug taking, it is plausible Millburn and him managed to get lost.

-Why did Shaw and Vickers feel the need to run straight from a narrow ship that was falling directly at them?

They may not have had time to map out the best escape route. I'm not entirely convinced running to side would of worked. If you look at the ship from afar it seems narrow but in proportion to the characters it may have been wide enough to crush them. I'll probably pay closer attention to that the next time I see this.

David (to the Engineer)- 'You see that old guy there? He says your mother is like a bus, $2 and you get to ride all day'

Some people have said earlier about how the events in Prometheus don't tie up with Alien because of the space jockey ship they find in Alien.

Keep in mind there are alot of engineer ships on that planet. The prometheus crew come across just one.

If the planets are the same there is nothing to say the nostromo crew don't come across another one of the ships.
Fassbender is amazing. What else has he been in?
Apart from the stuff thats already been mentioned he was in a British buffy inspired type show called Hex.

Fassbender played fallen angel Azazeal

He was also in English Civil war mini-series The Devil's Mistress.

He starred in Roman Ninth legion action chase movie Centurion

Finally saw this last night, and I thought it was amazing and havent been able to stop thinking about it since.

Yes there are plot holes and yes there are story elements that are poorly portrayed (Scott's films often have this though, I think this is a reason why he isnt one of my absolute favourites but he does make some, SOME great films) but overall I loved the movie. The questions it raises are very interesting about our existence and higher powers, etc, this is probably the reason it gets people thinking.

I do wish it would have tied more into Alien, as sequels are never a sure thing these days, but the ties that were there were intriguing and though I was initially dissapointed it didnt answer more questions, when I think about it I am glad they didnt de-mystify the aliens too much. Either way, I cant wait for more movies in the series, hope it makes enough money to guarantee they get made.

9/10, but I can see this rising on subsequent viewings.

but how complex are the questions from the movie?

''what if aliens created us'' . is there anything else that its asking? the more i think about the movie the more i have a problem that they dont focus enough time on David. engineers created us humans and humans created David. this would be a 2 hour movie.

because just asking the question without exploring it is not enough IMO for a good scifi movie.

Is it rude of me to ask you to post the link again? :yay:
Here you go :cwink:
For some of those saying they don't get the movie and want to know the motivations/reasons behind Shaw and Davids actions here is a rather insightful interview with Fassbender and Rapace in which they talk about that stuff

I would love for a Prometheus sequel to make a cool gay action hero like the Alien series made a cool female action here. No touching coming out stories. No puppy love. No brutal murder of the hero by bigots at the end like how all gay movies end but one where the character is really cool and kick ass.

Oh well. Would probably never happen.

I can't wait for a Prometheus sequel. Part of the fun I think if the mystery and trying to guess whats going on. I reckon alot of people take themselves too seriously when they wanted to know ALL the secrets of the Alien universe in one movie.

I thought, like all good sci-fi, it asked questions about our existence, who made us? If it was other beings who made them? Do we take creation too far ( which is also a question for the Engineers as they essentially are us in the movie)? Why are we as creatures never satisfied with our lot in life? Why do we always seek answers? Are there answers to seek?

It also begs the question that if there are higher beings out there, are we a dissapointment to them? Have we as humans fulfilled our purpose or are we a failed experiment?

Questions like this and more filled my head during and especially after the movie, its why I cant stop thinking about it.

Can't wait to see this. Probably catch it this weekend.

Well, if they want the sequel to do well and make enough money to do another...that wouldn't be a very good idea. :)

Yeah this is what grates on me now I'm away from the film. I found the sequel-baiting to be off-putting, especially the limp ending with them flying off for another adventure.

The script was pretty weak but I was so absorbed for most of the duration. If the ending was stronger, I'd really love this film.
