Does anyone agree with me? She was a pure little *****, she was full of herself, thought she was better than everyone, she was rude to Bruce the minute she saw him again, rude to him right after the trial and rude to him on his birthday. Oh not to mention the part where she goes "I'm a Gotham City District Attorney, LET ME PASS!" and gives the poor cop, who is just doing his job the dirtiest look possible.

And I hated the scene when she was in the car with Bruce after the trial, and she makes that face as if she just farted to Bruce and goes "Whaddyamean?"

I'm glad Katie Holmes wont be back to reprise her role.

No. I don´t agree with you. First of all, you posted that Batman Begins was the best superhero movie you ever saw, from what I read I understood you thought this movie was flawless. Now you come and post this...well I guess people can change their minds.

And Rachel Dawes (the character) it´s all right. She is an upstanding woman who knows what she wants and is capable of take control of a situation when needed. As a D.A. she does his work pretty well in the movie, and she is brave enough for trying to do more than just his job.

And she is one of the people who puts Bruce back on track on that scene you mention, I loved that scene. When your best friend gives you a lesson when you are not doing the right thing, then you really have a best friend

As for the acting of Katie Holmes, it was not bad, but it wasn´t good either. Just average, and no reason to not enjoy the movie.

"What chance does Gotham have when good people do nothing?"

I think she wasn't mean to be that way as Katie Holmes was unable to give the character depth. So in the end her acting being void and superficial, rachel the character ended being just this full of herself charicature.

I'm also glad she's not coming back. 5 seconds of Maggie have shown me a more convincing Rachel already.

Huh. I personally liked Rachel.

Katie Holmes is a horrible actor since her brain was taken over

and just because I hated Katie Holmes in this movie it doesnt mean that I hate the movie itself

I hated her, and I still do. Every word that escaped her pursed lil mouth was condescending and annoying as hell. Thank the maker for Maggie

^^^yeah, but that's the character. who says that maggie's rachel will be any different? i actually don't want that, because it would seem contrived. i like consistency.

Hah, great thread title.

Huh. I personally liked Rachel.
i did too, her character was very idealistic, like thomas and martha wayne. she helped bruce realize whats right and wrong, and the difference b/w justice and revenge. she wasnt full of herself, she just wanted to what is right and she wanted to make things better for gotham and its people

the only problem was katie holmes, she didnt give emotion to the character like rachel deserved

She really is the weak point of the film. It probably would have been better for them simply to remove the romance element and made the character Harvey Dent instead.

I think the title should be changed to 'Katie was such an annoying rude cow' because it really was just how Katie portrayed the character and her character choices just left much to be desired.

exactly, i dont why nolan picked her, maggie will be so much better (hopefully)

after watching BB for like the 40th time or something last night, it almost seems like katie holmes is playing maggie g. watch her facial expressions next time. holmes isn't terrible at all. you might think the character addition is pointless and hate her personally, but she's not awful in the the movie, period. i think the jump to maggie is going to be seamless. they're almost the same actress on two sides of a spectrum. katies brought average skills but a lot of baggage because of who she is, maggie will bring the same but has the indie cred instead of the hollywood BS.

What i find weird is the fact that the role of Rachel was especially written for Katie Holmes, and with her in mind, but WHY?? I mean if you wanted to have a strong actress to portray a solid female role Katie Holmes would n't exactly be first choice on anyones list, if you were to make a list of, say top 100 actresses she probably would n't even make it.
They really should have just got Maggie from the very beginning.

I wouldn't say Rachel is annoying. It just Katie Holmes was somewhat weak on her acting in the role. If it was Maggie from the beginning or somone else who is better than Holmes, I don't think Rachel would be that bad.

I don't think Nolan could really get anybody else to play in the part.

She's not a terrible character, maybe just a bit out of Katie's range. Either way, she doesn't even come close to spoiling the film for me. Plus, she looked gorgeous in just about every shot, so that didn't hurt. :D

im sure he could have found someone, theres a lot of talented actresses out there and im sure someone would've taken the role

Didn't Nolan or Goyer said that they wrote the character Katie Holmes in mind?

Yeah, on the DVD I think it was. I'm not sure how much I believe them though.

Same here. It's the kind of things every director/writer says to promote their movies. "This guy was perfect for the role, I couldn't have thought of anyone else, etc"

It wasn't the character, it was obviously the actress behind it.

It's not that I don't buy Rachel as a character; I just don't buy Katie as Rachel.

The character, being an Assistant DA, was meant to have a sense of authority which Katie didn't have. She even tried to in that scene when she was making demands of Crane to get to the bottom of Falcone's descent into madness.

"I want my own psychiatric consultant to have full access to Falcone including blood work!"

I didn't believe her at all. If she were spouting off that dialogue to me I would've rebuttled by asking if it was past her bedtime or something.

However Maggie, thanks to being a better actress, will do a better job.

I like improvement.

I remembering hearing the role was offered to a few different actresses, and each one of them turned the part down.

I hate Rachel, she really is a b ! t ch. all she did was give Bruce additude, and how she made that crack that some people have work to do and he should go enjoy his party, well ya know it was his birthday and she acted like she depised him, she shouldn't have bothered talking to him then.

And it was like she never got it that his parents were killed in front of him and it upset him, that's putting it mildly. then there's the fact that she's ugly and now they have an uglier actress playing her, I mean really Bruce can do better.

Then she got all ticked off about Bruce saying her system was broken, well it was.

She's a jerk and if she does get killed in TDK then oh well. no big loss.
