Rockstar Red Dead Redemption

It's been a while, but I'd get bored, see where people are on my map, like this dude racing down the pass. Then fast traveled, and find myself in front of him, shoot him and hear the player curse me out. LOL

game still popular on free roam? or is it dying out since its been so long.

What a game though...Best I have ever played.

....what was wrong with the ending....?

I don't like it all felt pointless. John makes it so everyone is cured...& then Seth starts it all over again. & we don't even get to play as the real John afterwards, it's stupid zombie John. That felt like a "F*** you" to everyone who wanted post-campaign free roam as John for Red Dead.

My ideal ending would have been a bit darker: There wouldn't have been a cure for the zombies, so John is forced to kill his family. He then sets out to wipe the Earth clean of the zombie plague, becoming a badass zombie hunter. You'd get some kick-ass alternate costume with this ending too.

Speaking of not liking things about endings, I hope Red Dead doesn't go with his son as the main char. John's laid back, and un-spoken attitude (and voice actor) attributed a lot to him being such a great character. His son (grown up) "Yeeeeee-haaaaaw" attitude, and over excited energy level was a turn off for me. He seemed more like a generic bandit outlaw caricature, IMO. I'd rather have had him stay a bookworm. Storywise it makes sense, but given the impression I got post-John endgame...I'd rather they start fresh, or re-tool the character (with a better VA).

I have a feeling the next Red Dead will be a completely different story altogether, much like GTA.

I hope a Red Dead sequel will be set a lot earlier.

I figure they have to, the only reason for setting it in the 1900's is to do a death of the wild west deconstruction story which they already pretty much covered in its totality.

Dude.

I think people are unfair to Jack. He's not supposed to be as charismatic as his dad, and it's obvious why: he's a young lad, and he's learning to become a man.

yes, he wasn't that old. He didn't live a life of adventures like his father. John was already a grown up man. It would be impossible for Jack to be as cynical and as awesome as John.

I tried cemetery yesterday, and it was awesome.

He also, of course, doesn't get a real story. Just "story mode over --- have at it in Free Roam, Jack."

indeed. But I did like how he went after the guy in the last mission. It was really moving.

The way I understood it, and it may not be true for everyone else, but the problem was not that they brought in Jack, but rather that they killed John at the end, which forced you to do free roam with Jack.

Personally, I liked the ending because it was new and different, and I liked how they set Jack to get revenge, but it was a mistake to not bring back a way to play as John, except for replaying the missions. I think when you spend an entire game building up a character and his story, and then replace him at the end, it's hard for people to accept the new guy no matter who he is.

Just made it that much more somber for me. I still had a lot to do after the end, and running around as Jack taking care of John's unfinished business added a real melancholy feel to the whole thing. Really felt like something was missing. It was definitely sad but good emotional storytelling.

Kinda like L.A. Noire.

Yeah, it was. The game really felt empty after John. I still played story mode for months after that anyway, but Jack definitely felt more like the classic lone Western gunman than John did.

Yeah, although they came out of nowhere with the character switch, in a time where it looked like Cole's arc was finally hitting a high point. It all kinda worked out in the end but I almost give it a pass since it was a "level" based game so Cole dying had no real effect on what you could do afterward.

I think it was their intention. You're supposed to be sad because you lost John, and you know there is no way he's coming back. that's why it makes sense to play as Jack even when you free roam. It made the ending more powerful imo, because you could really feel the loss.

About LA Noire, I think the switching of characters worked. Because Cole was becoming more flawed, more human. and in the same time, when he was finally becoming a real human being instead of a hero, he was going far away. That way, the player was witnessing his doom, making his ending even more sad.

Yeah, I give Rockstar a lot of credit for the way they've been trying to change things up with the stories/endings of their last few games. I can't say anything about Max Payne because I haven't played it, but in GTA IV they killed off one of two major characters depending on the choice you make, then killed off the main character in RDR and ended it in a way that I don't think anyone expected them to, and with whatever involvement they had in LA Noire, they did something similar in terms of character switch and death.

They've been gutsy with their stories, which is something I don't know/think that they've been praised for before. But their endings have definitely drawn conversations where people have been divided, where you either love it or you hate it. But either way, you're talking about it. My only worry is that they don't make it a habit of killing off the main character in every game now because once it becomes predictable or expected, then the impact it has won't be the same.

just bought this game a few days ago, and I'm loving it... does anyone know if there is going to be a sequel?

Nothing has been announced, who knows what Rockstar are planning though. At this stage it'd be a next-gen title, I imagine.

my guess is that they're putting everything into GTA5, and afterwards- hopefully- they'll announce an RDR sequel

Yea i thought there were rumors some time ago about a sequel. I would be shocked if there wasnt tho. I cant wait though, its going to be incredible. Redemption was one of my favorite games this gen.
