Rockstar Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead for me had fits of brilliance in between some good if not great bits. The Mexican chapter really does slow down the game something fierce. Definitely the best ending of last year in a year with some seriously strong endings, that's for sure.

a strange thing with red dead..i bought it and really didnt like it found it very boring so took it back next day .
But i havent like one GTA game yet for the same reason.

I think that mass effect 2 is waaay better..and even unchartered although its not as complex.

Maybe i didnt give the game enough time to warm to but it take so long to get going i found myself bored too quickly.

just the shooting rabbits bit and wondering round town chatting to folk..very dull.
and the undead bit was monotonous too..resident evil 5 was alot better.

i know its not a popular opinion but i cant seem to get into any rockstar games...tho the graphics were great tho..

You sound like some of the customers i get in my store. They'll come in and say something like, 'im looking for a new shooter cuz im getting a little tired of CoD' so i then proceed to list some different shooters for them to try. A few days later they come back complaining that the game isnt call of duty and that theres not enough action or what ever.

People these days have the attention span of a gnat.

Yeah, comparing it to Mass Effect, Uncharted and RE 5 is kinda weird. I don't know what overlap you were possibly expecting between all those games... If you don't like free roam mission based games, why would you buy Red Dead?

when i went into the store to get this game after the good reviews i read i asked if it was like GTA because i havent like any of them..he said its nothing like them so i bought it..
it played just like GTA wild west so i didnt like it.
i like many different games been playing since the zx spectrum days and upwards to now.
i like free roam games..but gta and rdr i found very dull..or too long to get into gear..if they gave you a little action then feed the chickens fair enough but it was too boring from the get go.

The main thing here is GTA to me isnt fun..don't like it.so the guy at the shop mislead me.

Its not bad to say you don't like a popular game, its all about taste and opinion so no one can be wrong in liking or disliking a game.

That was a poorly phrased question as well. GTA was garbage this game was not

i love everything about this game except the controls...just isnt as smooth and responsive to other games...Playing undead right now sometimes its difficult to navigate into the freaking doors and ladders?! Such a pain right now...

i like free roam games...

No, you don't. Your attention span is too short to handle them, particularly Rock Star free roam games. There is way too much detail in the virtual worlds they create for you to appreciate what they are doing. Obviously you are one of those that wants to just jump in and have non-stop button mashing. I'm the opposite. I hate when you get no chance to breathe and take in the world around you because it's a constant swarm of enemies.

I don't even know what you are talking about saying that RDR takes too long to get going. It's going from the moment you get off the train in Armadillo and the details/life of the town sink in. Rock Star free roam games are simulators. They give you the chance to experience the life of someone else.

The sales guy at the store failed to recognize your needs. He told the truth when he said that RDR is nothing like GTA. It's a very different world and experience. He just didn't recognize that you are a button- masher. You just want to shoot sh**. You need to ask for Shooters when you go in and be sure to specify linear shooters for that matter.

People who just want non-stop action shouldn't play free roam games.

Well i think it was your reasons for not liking Redemption that prompted that response. The fact that you said it was too slow, boring, would lead one to believe that you have a short attention span and need flashing lights and colors at all times to keep you interested. The huge draw for Redemption is inhabiting this life like world that we havent really seen a lot of in this medium. The game isnt about getting from point A to B, but everything thats in between. Be it from riding your horse into that classic western town, to stopping a rape attempt outside of the local saloon to dueling in the streets with some would be gunslinger to playing high stakes poker in Blackwater. All of that combines to make up the title. The game isnt just about non stop action, like most open world titles, its the sum of it's parts that make it so phenomenal. So when you feel its too slow, that leads one to assume you want that fast paced, non stop action that so many game now a days feature.

The customers that come in to my store saying they didnt like this game, tend to be of the 'CoD' mindset. I havent heard too many complaints outside of the fact that the game was as you stated, slow.

I saw Rango today and it made me want to start a new game and play Read Dead all over again from the beginning. It's such a fun game!!!!

if you read what i said i never said it was a bad game..just didnt like it myself it plays very much like GTAIV on horseback.the music was great graphics too..it just didnt grip me thats all.
as i said if it come to pc i may give it another go..but its nothing to do with short attention spans or flashy lights.surely you must admit it does take a bit to get rolling,i'm actually not a cod type at all...i like my action but in a more narrative way like unchartered, batman arkham asylum.
if i want flashy action i err towards MVC3.

In all honesty i really wanted to like the game i bought it wanting to like it..but its GTA style mechanics just turned me off.

for storyline i must admit mass effect 1 and 2 had me hooked,i like shepard and the fight against the reapers,i like the interation wioth the surrounding cast and characters..i look for to mass effect 3 alot!

Lol, i felt the same thing after i saw that movie, which btw, i thought was fantastic.

Yea i was just stating based on why you said you didnt like the game would lead to one assuming you had a short attention span. I personally dont have a problem with you not liking the game for whatever reason. I agree the game starts off slow and depending on how you play, never really gets going all that fast. I tend to do a mission then spend an hour or 2 just "living" in the world. I can spend hours in the game just riding around, hitting up the saloons and helping out strangers.

Felt the same way. Twas a goofy movie, but totally worth seeing!

Yea it was a lot of fun.

The dialog between Rango and Priscilla that ended with him shouting "You got a funny lookin FACE!" had me rolling. Great back and forth.

Also loved the "Spirit of the West". That was classic.

Dude, to call them the standard for free roam is just.... I mean, sure they have free roam elements but they are first and foremost rpg and mmo. Rockstar is open world, and to not like any Rockstar games, i.e. the GTA's and Red Dead would mean there are also a large standard of free roams you wouldn't like. How do you not research a game enough to know what type it is?

its just rockstar games im not a fan of that's all.
sorry if this seems unbelievable but i don't like the way they play, they may be free roam but its still linear in the fact you have to complete tasks etc to move forward and the end is generally the same thing.
with GTA also i think the fact none of the lead characters you play i have liked also comes into play.
i like to like who i am in the game.
same reasons im not a fan of god of war...the games not bad by any means i just can't play a game when i dont like the lead.
also same with any leo dicaprio movies..im sure the movies good but if he's in it i ain't watching it.
maybe im getting set in my ways in my old(er) age! :D

Actually, in GTA4 you kinda can change the ending, at least in terms of who you tale out in the end based on some decisions you make later on.

Either ignored or totally misunderstood my post.

yeah like with mass effect have variations on the ednings...but its still the same type of ending.
like i said before, before i get bashed for not liking certain games again..
RDR is good, reviews say it is..graphics are and voice acting is ok too...same with god of war great game but just not my cup o joe.

if we all liked the same thing these forums would be dull!

It's not about opinion here, i'm talking about how you can claim you can like Free Roam open world games without liking Rockstar games. That's like saying you love Platformers but always hated Mario and Sonic.

no..just cause 2 was free roam(ish) that was ok.
not ignoring or misunderstanding.
im kinda suprised how much hate can be mustered by not liking a game.

it's a bit daft how much slavver ive got for not liking this game.

not really there are loads of platformers out there if one doesnt like sonic or mario but likes ristar, donkey kong etc then they are not wrong it is opinion.
BTW i do love mario and sonic.

I'm just saying, it's odd. Rockstar have set the standard for open world games in so many ways. I honestly don't understand how you could love open world but not a single rockstar game. Baffling.

i can see where your coming from..when you like something alot which kinda defines a genre its hard to see how someone cannot like it.

its like being a scifi fan and not liking star trek or star wars.
i get what you mean..its probably the medium i don't like in GTA being a villain killing innocents, prostitution, drug dealing etc dont float my boat.

now if it were the other way around and be a hero police man taking them down and doing things for justice i can get on board with that.

it'd be fair to say i probably didnt give RDR enough of a chance..but i guess with not liking anything by the company before i didnt see it through to the good stages.

i do know what you mean tho!
