Peter Parker shouldn't be a good-looking guy when you stick a pair of glasses on him. He should look like a semi-nerd.
PP shouldn't be good looking???!!!!!!!
Tell that to John Romita- The DEFINITIVE SPIDER-MAN artist of all time.
He drew PP way good looking. Better looking than Efron.
Fact is PP IS good looking.
That don't mean that you can't easily make an attractive guy look much less attractive by changing the way he carries himself, dressing him nerdy & making him un-cool.
It's easy.
Peter Parker should be (pretty much) invisible to girls. If they're going to try to play that up with Zac Efron. It's not going to work, and people will hate it.
High school PP was pretty much invisible to girls, BEFORE he got bitten that is, because he did not have the confidence of being Spider-Man to put a supreme spring in his step.
Depending on how the origin is shown in SM2012, we may see what PP was like before the bite, we may not.
FACT IS- Once he got his powers, Liz Allen started to dig him (his High School crush & Flash's gal who previously would never give him the time of day) because he was much more confident, and it was not long before Gwen & MJ were all over him.
SO, PP was ONLY invisible to girls BEFORE he got his powers.
After that point he was a virtual chick magnet, a la Zac Efron? Heh
I kinda doubt that this is truthful news. But, if it is, Sony Pictures has made a huge tactical-error. This film will flop if it has Zac Efron as the lead because fans will immediately think of 'High School Musical' and the majority of teenage-girls wouldn't want to see Zac star in a comic-book movie. It's not his time yet.
Yea right.
Remember when Ledger was cast as Joker most fans were like WTF?
The gay cowboy dude! This will SUCK!!!! Hheheh.
What about when Keaton got cast as Batman and fans were so outraged that they protested outside WB offices or studios because in their minds they associated Keaton w/ comedy films and thought Batman would be like the 1960's TV show all over again.
A real actor is someone who takes different parts and plays different characters well, turning perceptions on their heads.
I've not seen any of Efron's films but I'm willing to look past his campy dance movies and give him a chance so long as he does not sport that emo haircut. He's got his hair short right now and he bears more than a passing resemblance to Peter Parker, observe-
And as for another crucial aspect, physicality of Spider-Man, Efron has practically been in Ditko Spidey shape in recent times, so we know he can/ would get in good shape-
Finally you talk about
'teenage-girls wouldn't want to see Zac star in a comic-book movie' ..
What you need to understand is that Spider-man movie audiences, generally speaking don't particularly care who gets cast and will go watch Spider-Man movies at the cinema anyway. Spider-Man the name sells the movie, and as for the small percentage that we make up of the audiences, I highly doubt anyone would be able to resist buying a ticket on principle of sporting a short sighted and negative bias towards the lead. All that would happen was that perhaps if he does get cast, his young female fan base would bring more money to the box office.
Personally I could see the potential in Efron and see past High School Musical so long as he kept his hair short.
