I don't particularly mind if he was replaced along with the cast. But the problem for me is I want to see Dylan Baker remain as the lizard and I would like to see Raimi finish out that story. And also the interaction with Tobey and Baker. So I have mixed feelings.

I don't think it would hurt anyone if he finished his series with a fourth film, though I think that Sony asking for six films is still completely laughable. Arad should just let him make a last one with the Lizard without any interference, and then Marvel should come back a long time down the road with a reboot. Put an end to what Raimi started and then start fresh under new direction when the franchise starts showing age.

But, again- until then, I don't think it'll kill anyone for one last hurrah to go down. I want this cast replaced as much as the next guy, but I don't think they'd ruin things considering how the bar has already been lowered by Spider-Man 3.

Will it feel that weird if its Baker and Gyllenhal having dialouge? A guy who I think is very similar to Tobey appearance wise and a better actor by the way... or Gyllenhal and Simmons at the Bugle? Ofcourse it won't be the same... but whoever steps in... as long as the guy has some similiarities to Tobey... it would be a smooth transition so long as the supporting cast signed on (which they will). I think its important that the new guy is closer to Tobey's Parker physically rather than comic book Peter just to ease the transition. But it won't be weird as long as the character stay true to what has been established already... its important for the characters to stay close to their movie counterparts if actors are to be recasted.

Tmags was physically a huge dissapointment. I'm not asking for him to be ripped because thats not how spidey is BUT spidey is toned and does have muscle definition and Jake G has the physical body that best srepresents spider-man's.

He wasn't a physically disappointment to me. He still looked the right size and tone for Spidey.

Tobey got into proper shape... he looked fine in the suit... thats all that matters... who cares if it was extra stuffed... still looked credible

I do think Maguire was a bit flabby this time around, but I'm a bit too unfamiliar with Gyllenhal's physique to automatically say he's physically capable.

Maguire was physically toned in the first two (he was leaner and more wirey but very fit in the second having just come off of Seabiscuit where he had to cut down to a very wirey muscle to play a jockey). In SMM3 it looks as if he lost weight for the role but did not gain any muscle mass like he did for the first two. But really they shot around it and a good performance is more important to me than if he has a toned six pack.

And at the end of the day Tobey is a better actor than Jake G and either way I think he and Dunst after 3 films should be the one to "climax" the love story with a marriage as opposed eto Jake G and whatever Many Moore-ish actress they get to replace Dunst, then.

 Well said. Tobey and Kirsten should be the ones getting married, not recasts.

No, he's done with his Spider-Man trilogy. I want to see a new director because I want to see how the SFX will be.

If we are ever to see The Lizard or Mysterio then I HOPE Sam will do Spiderman 4.

As far as I'm concerned he has done a super job on all 3 films so far despite the negative approach to Spiderman 3.

His Sandman was wonderfull to watch and Venom was not over the top so he has feeling for the fans no matter what bad comments he gets.

Who would replace him and continue to keep the standards high for SM4?

I can't think of anyone:whatever: :whatever:

But we don't know if marriage is going to be part of the SM4 script... Pete was rejected in the comics the first time no? Everybody assumes SM4 should be the last (Then let Sony **** up 5/6) ending with a marriage and living happily ever after but I doubt that's what Sony has in mind... they envision a 6 part series... not a Conners/Lizard arc for SM4 + "who gives a sh:t b/c no one cares about 5/6 anyway". I agree if its part of the script then bring them back and recast for the last two flicks... but if it isn't then you'd best recast now itself.

If they go the Lizard route, Peter getting married and seeing how his life can ruin a family/married life would be a great conflict. I think marriage will happen if Lizard is used.

I expect marriage to play a part in the next movie. Enough romance, GET THESE KIDS TOGETHER ALREADY!!!

Well I think Peter and MJ reached adulthood in the last scene of SM3. So to see them cope with an engagement and the approach of marriage but see how marriage has torn the Connors family apart and Peter's driving need to save Curt Connors to know that a superpowered being does not always have to destroy his family....could work REALLY WELL.

I do agree that after that there is not much more room to take the Peter Parker story movie-wise but two movies of filler with more love triangles (be it more Gwen or Black Cat) would just seem that...filler until they get hitched in SM6. I think pay off a great Lizard storyline in SM4.

Besides, I personally doubt the franchise will go all 6 planned films. I predict around 5, whether Tobey, Kirsten and Sam come back or not. They can do an emotional and SM2-quality-sized fourth film and then use Carnage as a last ditch effort for public interest in SM5. After that, what is left that will keep audiences coming back, though?

Sweet Jesus, am I the only person on SHH that has so interest whatsoever in watching Spider-man marry Kirsten Dunst? What's Spider-man 5, Attack of the Dirty Diaper?

The misconception out there is that because Raimi only established Conners and Gwen... there is no where else to go after that... and that's just a stupid notion... so what if those are the only established characters left... bring in new ones... there are plenty of villains left... I don't think it would just be a rehash either... Sony believes this... they want six movies... why should we think they are lying? If SM4 makes even 600 million why would they stop there? Its still a 300 million dollar profit. People think that because no other characters have been established the franchise is dead after COnners. I think its a ridiculous notion.

I hate to say it but...no, he's had his time in the sun, let's see what someone else can do with Spidey! :spidey: Although if he were to come back I wouldn't really care because I LOVE all 3 Spidey films...

Well... I would still rather see Tobey. I don't think we need an academy award winner to play a role like Peter Parker as far as acting goes. Tobey has been decent. Peter is not a complex role to play. Whatever happens it will work either way. If they move on they move on. I just would rather see Dylan's turn to shine with this cast.

As far as casting goes , I would go with someone different then Maguire if they were to recast. It's the character that endures . Whether it's JG, Milo,or anyone else , I think it's important they capture the character as opposed to the look of Tobey Macguire.

Now each actor will bring a different aspect to the role which is what I would want. If Macguire is recast by Joseph Gordon - Levitt let's say, I don't want him to try to mimic Macguire. I wanna see them make the role their own. One of the gripes critics had about Superman Returns was that Brandon Routh tried to be Chris Reeve as opposed to trying to make his own Superman.

I could deal with a new actor as Spidey. I've lived through 4 Batman actor's , 4 actor's as Superman, and 4 actors as James Bond . Before Macguire was Spiderman the only Spiderman I knew was Chris Barnes . Sure he provided the voice but he did a great job and really captured the character. The Spiderman films will survive regardless of whether Raimi, Dunst or Macguire return. That's not taking anything away from what they've brought to the films but it's the character that will outlast all of us.

The movies will continue, no matter what. But seeing Maguire and Dunst being the two that get wed after all the **** their characters went through in the last 3 movies would be more satisfying. And again I'd take Raimi's interpretation of Lizard right now over any other's.

And I do htink cinematically, there is not a lot of room left to go after SM4 if they do get married. Which is why I understand Sony may want to hold off on that, but then you can feel the movies in between stretching it and feeling thin (think how thin Pirates 2 and 3 were stretched over 6 hours).

I simply say that because the movies are very much a love story and after Peter is married to MJ and fully gronw up (which he has done at the end of SM3) where else do you take him? Also, there are tons of villains in the comics but if Lizard and Kraven (fan hopefuls and producer favorites) are the villains, whose left? Electro and Carnage are just kind of shallow.

We'll see, I suppose.

keep Raimi!! another direvtor could result to cruddy Spidey movies....IMO...Raimi has done a great job

I dont want to see any marriages any time soon. They got together at the end of sm2. I want to see these 2 as a couple and endure the hardships of Peter's life as a superhero. Now, saying that, I'm not looking to see MJ thrown into danger yet again. I want to see other cast members become victims, lets see JJ in serious trouble, even Betty or possibly Gwen. I want to see MJ handle Peter's double life with understanding and maturity, instead of acting like some incensitive cow as she did in sm3.

Would you accept a marriage at the end of a Spider-Man film at least?

Yeah, only because Peter was planning on proposing in sm3.
