Even though I liked SM3, I completely agree. Even ignoring the mixed views over this movie, there's a general fatigue growing towards Spider-Man films. Maguire and co. are barely up to doing a fourth movie, and a recast at this point would be too soon (since Sony has apparently pegged SM4 for a 2010 release already).

I say let Raimi and co. finish their run with a Spider-Man 4 that gives a real bookend conclusion to the series. SM3 wrapped up a lot of plot threads and closed out the trilogy, but there are still some things left to be seen: Peter and MJ getting married, the effect of Harry's death on Peter, Connors becoming the Lizard, and a larger role from Gwen and Captain Stacy.

After that, give the franchise a break and come back a few years down the line with a reboot (or a "vague history" sequel).

Agreed. I doubt the Stacys will be getting larger role, though. I think that Gwen was just in as a nod to the fans, and to get involved in the MJ/Peter love BS.

No, SM3 was just meant to be her intro to the series (hence her small role). That was basically Raimi's stipulation for including her in the first place.

Plus, Raimi already said that if he returned for SM4, he would like to see Bryce Dallas Howard return as well.

Really? That's good to know. She's easy on the eyes after seeing Dunst for so long.

he should stay, all the SM movies were very good and I liked them all, SM3 was alittle jam packed but Venom still needed to be in it, SM4 needs only one villian and that is the Lizard.

As much as I'm against more than one villain, I think Kraven and Lizard would make for a great story.

I really don't want a five and six, though. That's overkill.

This film is viewed as the worst of the trilogy by many people (all I heard the weekend it came out was how bad it was, most of these people were casuals). And I know it made 800 million, not everyone hated it, so lets not even get into that.

Not to mention it will be the 4th film, the series is losing steam. There's no denying that. They're running out of "must-have" villains (only one left is Lizard).
The Lizard is left but so is Kraven, and other Villians. We could also see the return of Doc Ock or Sandman in a future Spidey sequel, which is very exciting IMO.

I'd kind of prefer it if they went back to just one villain, whether it's the Lizard or Kraven or somebody else altogether.

But why settle for Gwen Stacy when we could have Felicia Hardy/Black Cat? I'd rather see Black Cat than Gwen.

I really feel the "Black Cat or Gwen Stacy" decision was made in SM3, for better or worse. If you're going to give one of comicdom's most famous women a paltry role as the other woman in one film, you might as well work on changing that view and at least reminding the audience what her name was in a sequel. You come up with throwaway women to allure Peter and you suddenly find yourself making throwaway romance plots.

No Black Cat...see the Catwoman movie. Woman superhero/villains are horrid on screen 95% of the time. And I see nothing that Black Cat can offer, that hasn't already been seen in Batman/Catwoman movies. I only see her taking up screentime away from more important characters to the story, as a cliche heroine.

Whoever it is directs, I hope they saw SM3 and learned from its mistakes.

I also hope that the next movie have one- at the most two- villains. We need to minimize the amount of characters.

1 and 2 were great for the fact that both villains had great backstories and all the characters had great development throughout the movie. That didn't happen in SM3 because there was simply too many characters.

3 was too many (thank Avi Arad and Venom fans for that), but I do want two villains in SM4. I actually don't want to go back to having ONE villain. It's too simple, and you know what's going to happen beat for beat, in a cookie-cutter kind of way. Unless we get a really great writer or/and director, that wants to take a bold new direction, with continuity in tack...then ONE villain would work.

Well, I really do love what Raimi did with this franchise. But maybe it is really time to change the director. I'm just not sure, whether sony will be able to find someone with the same love and passion Raimi had for the character. I don't want someone to screw up the franchise, it's too valuable.

I think someone new should take over the new trilogy spiderman movies ya know, to get a different look at it.

I hate sam raimi for what he did to venom but spiderman 3 was still okay, maybe a new director should make the new movies

I've read somewhere on these boards that the part Venom played in SP3 was Vulture's part of their original story. So it seems like no matter what we would've got three villains. But I agree with you, 3 villains it's still too much.

But I think Kraven and Lizard in SM4 could work, Connors is introduced and it's not like we absolutely have to see how Kraven became Kraven, so I think it will be easier to introduce him.

Meh...the more I think about Kraven, the less I feel he has to offer a movie that doesn't involve an appearance by the Lizard (though at this point Raimi would have to be crazy to hold off on the Lizard for another film).

Oh yeah and Gwen's not cliche at all:whatever:

Sam Raimi has had 3 attempts to tell a great spidey story and has done a half-assed job on all of them. To be honest, after the dissapointing first movie we should have got a new director but anyway, Raimi should stay away from all writing credits, hell he should stay away from these movies from here on end. Bring in someone new, someone competent in faithfully translating the source material in a 2odd hour movie.

Raimi doesn't own Spider-Man, I think someone else deserves to have his shot at telling Spidey's stories. And we could see a new, refreshing style (it's only a personnal opinion, I loved Raimi's Spider-man's movies but I think I grew tired of his movie style)

SM3 was Sam's fault. Sony and Marvel gave him a lot more freedom with the movie than they did with SM1 and 2.

kward were you the one who said the raimi brothers came up with the dancing?

Sam Raimi didn't want the symbiote, Gwen Stacy or Venom, that doesn't sound like freedom to me. If he had more freedom than SM1/SM2, there would be no symbiote, Gwen Stacy or Venom.

Uh, I was talking about costumed female characters, unless Gwen has a secret identity. No matter, I was never a fan of Gwen Stacy character in the comics to begin with.
