Sam Raimi didn't want the symbiote, Gwen Stacy or Venom, that doesn't sound like freedom to me. If he had more freedom than SM1/SM2, there would be no symbiote, Gwen Stacy or Venom.
According to the DVD commentary kward has been providing us, "supposedly" the studios were giving him more freedom.

i think sony gave avi arad a lot of freedom
As do I, i think there just trying lead the public into thinking they gave Sam more control, despite the fact that its so obvious its the the producers that had more control.

How do you give him more freedom when he didn't want Gwen Stacy, the symbiote or Venom? Arad said the fans wanted Venom (which they did) and one of the Sony producers wanted Gwen Stacy in, that's how they came to be in SM3. If you think Raimi can say no to what Marvel/Sony want, you're nuts. More freedom would be..."okay Mr. Raimi, if you don't want those characters, don't use them, you're free to do whatever you want." Don't believe in studio spin.

True, but the sad part is, he's apart of most, if not all of Marvel's films. You can't shake the guy, even when he leaves Marvel to form his own company.

Im just saying why kward said what he said, didnt say i agreed with it. Hence my post after omid's.

i cant believe raimi actually thought it would be so funny adding a few dancing scenes, really sad imo

Yeah, let's notify the FBI. I mean, the hell with terrorists, we have some dancing in SM3.

Well, I for one have enough of dorky Parker with wimpy voice after 3 Movies. I wouldn't mind someone else in the directors chair who gives us a confident Parker.

They should get Mark Millar and that guy who writes the screenplays for the Lionsgate Marvel animated movies to write the sm4 script.

I do want much better writers, that's a must. Of course the kind of writers I want, could piss off soccer moms and lighthearted Spider wimps around the world.

I'm honestly not sure. I definitely want a new cast and crew, but maybe Raimi and Co will stick around for one more then we'll get the revamp.

They probably won't revamp it unless Spider-Man 4 is a critical and box office failure of Batman & Robin/Catwoman proportions.

Why not? Mark Millar imo is a better writer for this sort of movie than anyone else who's written the script/screenplays for these 3 spidey movies. At lest Millar knows the characters and knows how to wite these characters within the context of a cinematic setting.

Have you read Civil War? Mark Millar wouldn't known accurate characterization or compelling storytelling if it bit him in the ass.

I've read civil war...multiple times. Granted, Millar isn't perfect BUT imo, I'd rather see an adaptation of his screenplay as opposed to Raimi's, Sergent's and Koepp's.

I thought his run on MK:SM was great. Sure the overall story was a bit cliche(O Noes! Norman's at it again), the ending was a bit anitclimatic, and then Scorpion becoming Venom. But taking those out, I thought he did an amazing job and it felt a breath of fresh air. I especially loved the first arch with Vulture and Electro.

hes not coming back according to imdbs new page....hey i know its imdb and imdb is bantha fodder, but the news page is acutaly pretty accurate.

I think this is a great move as long as they can get a good story together. I wouldn't mind seeing new lead actors too. I think Maguire and Dunst are replaceable and they both seem bored with the their respective roles.

If Sony wants to take the series in a new direction I don't think it would hurt to leave MJ out altogether. I wouldn't mind seeing more of the Stacey's. Bringing in Felicia would be pretty cool too. We still haven't seen the Vulture, Scorpion, Kraven, the Spider-Slayers, Lizard, etc. There's a lot of things they could do. Hopefully a new director and new lead actor would make the 4th film feel as fresh as the last Bond movie, which was the best Bond flick I've seen in years.

I'm weary of replacing Raimi cause he has done such a good job with this series

even though 3 was no where close to the others, it still is probably the 7th or so best comic book movie ever, certainly better than the x-men and 3 of the original batman movies

IMO sm3 was the best of the 3 movies and that imdb article isn't clear on him returning as director. He keeps on confirming that new writers are submitting scripts. All that tells me is, Raimi's not writing it and neither is anyone else who wrote a script treatment for the previous movies.

All I want is a new cast, new crew and an awesome screenplay. Quick! someone get Jeff Loeb to start writing a screenplay, dammit!

I dunno Alvin Sargent did a good job I think on the 2 screen play

Thats cool you think three is the best, I think the story is far to loose for it to be the best imo, the first two are so much tighter movies, and i wasn't all that impressed with venom but I still like it alot

^Isn't Sargent just the script doctor? He basically takes disparate ideas from the writers and pieces them together into a coherent script.

I don't see any reason why he wouldn't return. He has SM4 as an option in his contract.

i think raimi should keep making spidey movies. bu more screen time for villians more action. and not kill them only that is necessary
