Excellent. Zodiac was one of the best films of the year, so I have no reservations about this decision.

EDIT - And apparently, he's writing the Wolverine spin-off too. Nice to know he isn't a stranger to Marvel.

^Yeah, i saw he was re-writing Wolverine earlier, strange.

Is this news confirmed BTW? A 2009 release seems VERY unlikely.

2009? Too soon, if true, imo.

2009 is too early! 2010 will be a perfect year since spidey three just came out...

We need a 4. At least one more. 2009 would be a great choice. But they should release it in November of 2009.

Spider-Man 3 became one of the highest grossing films of all time and you thought Sony was going to call it quits?

    They should follow the 3 year pattern - 2004, 2007, 2010

There's no way the 2009 release will happen. Vanderbilt can't turn in a script until problems with the WGA are resolved. Nothing can be done until the script is finished.

Everyone is forgetting that he won't start the script until early next year. He's very busy writing Wolverine at the moment. But regardless, I'm very excited to hear that he's been chosen to write the fourth installment. "Zodiac" was bloody brilliant.

Shhh! I think JQ or JMS from over at Marvel on going to hold this guy hostage so they can bring the ultimate Spidey story to life on the big screen: One More Day!!!

All jokes aside, this is pleasing news.

The only thing that was "wrong" with Zodiac was the length.

Not entirely true. They were shooting sequences and material for both SM2 and SM3 without a completed script. With an effects film like this, if they have a general outline of the film and a few sequences already mapped out (like the train sequence was), they could begin preliminary shooting to get ahead of schedule.

I trust that the studio has a better idea of how long it'll take to make this thing than we do... though 2009 does seem a trifle early considering they just hired a writer, and the film is without a director or a cast.

Still, I don't think they slapped on "2009" for no reason.

This is excellent news, I can't wait! 2009 is to early? Do you want SM-4 to be released in 2020?
