Sequels Spider-Man 5 & 6

I think it'll be like the transition from Sean Connery to Roger Moore. (Sorry George)

Reboot doesn't mean Spider-Man's origin again. It just means possibly ignoring the first four and not referencing them.
Well yeah, that's exactly what I'm hoping for lol

I can't think of anyone who could make a good Spider-Man film. Maybe James Cameron would consider it because he had his own idea of the character.

I actually would not mind that, its been over 15 years since wrote his own treatment and I definitly think he would have probably learn from his mistakes from his version. Besides all the bad stuff in his script, overall he did a pretty good job.

Spider-Man 3 only ruined the character of Spider-Man to those who want to have that kind of mentality.

^^ Yeah.

That would be the smartest transition.

Hmm do you think take on origin should be mentioned and only referenced in flashbacks (ex: The Incredible Hulk).

Or just completely ignored and just start with a completely established Peter Parker/ SM only with a different visual take and whatever other changes the different director might take?

Because I'm not sure what type of reboot Sony would want them to be.

I could see them doing a intro origin like how TIH did it.

Oh god, we need to do something about the Superherohype comments under the article. People are already asking for Venom and Carnage if there is a reboot when Venom get's his own spin-off. And there are chances for a reboot but people are still refusing more Spider-Man films.

Seriously, all the people asking for Maximum Carnage as a movie down there.

:o:woot:

If Spider-Man 5 would be doing Spider-Man's origin again, which it won't thank God, they wouldn't be doing Spider-Man 4 with Sam, Tobey, and Kirsten. They would have just have jumped right to it. Plus, Variety says that Sony is excited with what Gary Ross is writing.

It will just be taking the franchise in a fresh direction, which is a good thing. 5 and 6 will most likely be ignoring the first four, not saying they didn't happen but just not referencing them.

Raimi is done after Spidey 4 is what I get from this article. Spidey 4 is his swan song and the studio is happy to let him attempt it. Probably the end of Maguire/Dunst as well.

Of course, the studio knows this. It sounds like they want 5 and 6 out not too long after 4, like 2012/2013 or 2013/2014. Sam Raimi is doing Warcraft after Spider-Man 4. Also, it's pretty obvious Sam is trying to make Spider-Man 4 be his apology for Spider-Man 3.

I wonder if Sony simply held onto Vanderbuilt's original story and let Raimi take the story in a different direction for Spider-man 4.

That is what Variety is saying. Whatever two part story idea Vanderbilt had for 4 and 5, he's doing for 5 and 6 instead.

If anything SM3 did was show how hypocritical fanboys can be. It didn't seem too long ago when people were kissing Raimi's ass when he made the first two and wanted him to return for the third so bad. Then when the third came out those same people quickly turn on him and make it seem like he's the worst director ever.

I agree that SM3 was a weak film compared to the first two but I think that was a result of too many cooks in the kitchen as far as the script was concerned rather than Raimi's ability as a director. Yes Raimi was at fault for somethings, but not everything. And yet they don't place any blame on Arad, the man who pushed Venom's inclusion in SM3. They blame everything on the man who's ass they kissed for years because of the first two films and now they're saying he's a two bit hack. This has got to be one of the biggest forms of hypocrisy I've ever seen.

Now about rebooting the franchise, the only way I'll be up for that is if SM4 turns out to be really bad. Like Batman & Robin horrible. If it turns out this way I think they should wait awhile. Look at TIH. It was tons better than the 2003 version, but because it was only released five years afterwards and people thinking it was a sequel, it's box office suffered and it's still in question if there will be a sequel.

Batman worked because by then the taste of Batman & Robin had been mostly washed away by the more recent and good comic book movies at the time.(Like X-Men and SPIDER-MAN) Not to mention, it was 8 years later, a good while. And the box office still suffered a bit.

It wouldn't make any sense to me to reboot a franchise so soon after the last movie did so well at the box office.

If they go for a reboot... I would want to see it with Peter Berg or McTeigue as Directors.

If Spider-Man 5 and 6 is really a reboot, who will the villains be? I mean, they can't start over with Green Goblin or Doc Ock again could they?

Hopefully, they wont do any of the symbiotes.

Maybe they will start with villains like Vulture, Chameleon, Electro and Mysterio, villains we haven't seen before and later on have the big guys like Ock, Gobby and Venom.

Still, I would like a Sinister Six storyline, they build up the rest of the villains in the team in the 5th and 6th film and have the team in 6th film. Let Tobey stay, they could get rid of Dunst, you know, MJ can have a few scenes and then we could say that she moved to Hollywood to star in a movie.

I think recasting the main characters so soon would turn a lot of people off.

I'm eager to read Vanderbilt's scripts. The first thing that came to my mind was that, since the script covered two movies and Raimi didn't seem to like it, AND it seemed to fit as an ending to the trilogy and franchise, Venom would return and be a main part of the trilogy with maybe Carnage appearing too. However, since Venom will have his own spin-off it's very unlikely.

Maybe it features the return of Green Goblin? Maybe Vanderbilt tried to further develope Gwen Stacy and make Peter and Gwen a couple (maybe MJ gets an offer somewhere else that she can't resist and moves out of town?). Then, the finale is the Death Of Gwen Stacy storyline? That storyline could also work for a reboot, since they maybe would be more true to the comics and have Peter in love with Gwen Stacy in the first trilogy instead.

Though, that could be quite unlikely too since I think they want to end the franchise with a happy ending. Maybe Vanderbilt wanted to build up for the Sinister Six? Though, as Raimi has said that he would love to make a movie with the Sinister Six it would come off as a bit strange if he didn't take this opportunity to.

So what do you guys think?

Well, hopfully they make 3 more movies and i think its perfect for the sinister six to show up there.
Awwww, doc ock died? well boo hoo. He can come back, know how?
I know, cos its a MOVIE.

And to tell you the truth i hate gwen i only liked her in the comics when ditko had her, she was an arse with him and thats how it should stay.
Hopfully i remembered her correctly. :woot:

I'd love Vanderbilt to be the main script writer if the franchise does a reboot. First of all, since it would be the same writer, the movies would have more of a connection to each other. Secondly, I loved Zodiac and I think that Jake Gyllenhaal's character reminded me ALOT of the early smart yet insecure Peter Parker. When I watched that movie, the first thing that came to mind when seeing Jake Gyllenhaal's character was "man, that is SO Peter Parker". I think Vanderbilt could nail the characters for Spider-Man in a reboot. Then maybe my dream of a trilogy that builds up Peter and Gwen's relationship and then feature the storyline of Death Of Gwen Stacy would come true :)

Finally, some news! I also think that SM4 will be the last movie for Raimi in this franchise. It seems like he'll be too busy with other movies.

The trade adds that director Sam Raimi didn't embrace all of Vanderbilt's ideas, but executives at Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios have. Vanderbilt has been hired to pen the fifth and sixth movies, which have an interconnected storyline.

I'm very curious about the Vanderbilt ideas...

I guess I would welcome a reboot for the 5th and 6th film. Tobey and Kirsten is getting too old to play Peter Parker and Mary Jane. Perhaps Sony along with Marvel Studios want to make more Spider-Man movies but they will have to start over considering Tobey and Kirsten is getting too old and get a different director. I mean, Raimi has done 3 films and he is doing one more, I think that's enough for him. And recast would be stupid. I don't know, it may be unnecessary to start over but I love to see more Spider-Man movies anyway. As long as they are good of course. :cwink:

I was definitely surprised at this development. Obviously, this is Pascal's baby and it looks like her wish of getting six SM movies is coming true.

Although IMDB Pro lists Raimi, Maguire and Dunst as being part of an "in development" Spider-Man 5, that doesn't mean anything. But the DHD and THR articles do back up an earlier claim that Raimi and Maguire were on board for SM-4 and SM-5.

Well, Sony is commissioning Vanderbilt to write two sequels. So if Raimi and the two main leads don't return, it'll still be two sequels with new talent in front of and behind the lens.
