If you felt like I was being confrontational, you don't address that by saying "okay?".
That comes off as sarcastic and abrasive, like you are inviting more confrontation. And no one else would have interpreted that as me starting something. I was stating my opinion, and as my encounter with Spidermanhero12 showed, I wasn't offending anyone with my statement.
As I said: case closed. If you have anything else to say, PM me and don't continue it in this thread because as the mods have stated, the arguments and petty debates need to stop.
Back to the topic....I find it interesting the comic they derived most of the inspiration for the suit was from a one-off, one-time out of continuity issue from several years ago that we haven't seen since. Do you think that shows extensive research on sony's part or otherwise?

It's tough to say since the new suit is also pretty similar to some of the concept designs for SM1. Who knows though? Maybe someone remembered it from back then? There are bound to be a few pretty big Spider-Man fans working on everything. If it ends up being that that was the case and we learn via behind the scenes video or something, I'll be extremely impressed.

Again, I apologize and I should've responded in a more straightforward manner. I just thought it was abrasive given the circumstances is all. Apologies.

What concept designs from the first movie is it similar to? I'm not doubting or anything, I'm just very curious because I've seen nothing like that before and I LOVE seeing concept designs and behind-the-scenes goodies from movies that I hold near and dear to my heart. Have they been posted in this thread? I'm gonna give that a looksee...

Apology accepted, we'll just put this all behind us :woot: Water under the bridge haha.

This design for example is fairly similar to the design we have now. The extended spider, the leg stripes, the thinned out and angular arm stripe, etc.

There are differences of course, such as the gloves and web shooters, the eyes, and the full belt, but there are some striking similarities.

Ahh okay, see I've seen that before but I didn't notice the similarities until now.
Now granted I don't know what was going through the minds of the designers behind this movie, but coming from someone who is a sophomore in graphic design, I feel like the elements they have added to the suit come from a culmination of past concept designs to the various elements added in the comic series.
The elongated spider legs, thin stripes on the arms and legs, and lack of belt all resonate from these various sources and the fact that these specific elements come from various sources makes me think that these additions/changes to the suit are all natural progressions and changes to the costume, so it's difficult to pinpoint exactly where the inspiration for this new suit is from.
That being said, I obviously know NOTHING as to the actual process behind designing the suit so everything I've said is all guesswork. It's all my highly uneducated opinon :woot:

Yeah, I'm actually really excited about the Making-Of stuff that's bound to come out with the DVD as there's probably going to be a ton of explanation behind the design choices.

Agreed. LOOOVE seeing that stuff, it was my favorite part about the Thor and Cap DVD's this year. I'm pumped to see where they drew inspiration from, cause I have a million questions

I love the behind the scenes extras, but sadly, the Lord of the Rings extended DVD extras have spoiled me, and now no DVD extra is in depth enough.

Haha I've never seen the LOTR extras, but from what you just said they are overtly extensive to the point where no other special features could satisfy you? Interesting..

I love bts as well. Helps the audience appreciate the work more

And let's not forget the more consistent web pattern.

That design is still the ideal to me. It'd be cool if throughout this series the costume evolves and looks close to that by the end of the series.

I think it makes more sense, personally. I mean, there's a stripe connecting his gloves to his torso, why not one that connects his torso to his boots?

It's really unncecessary, IMO.

That along with the omission of the belt which separated everything nicely is one of the more head scratching design choices for the new suit. That's not even considering the track shoes, new segmented gloves, and stylistic cutting for the red portion on his upper back.

This costume will always feel like those alternate suits he wears for 10 issues or so which he eventually dump out in exchange for his original Ditko costume.

That's not necessarily a bad thing as I like a bunch of Spider-Man alternate costumes but my love for the original design will always trump those any day of the week.

Because they're not quite the same. The shoulders taper into the arm stripes, so it flows from the torso to the glove. Even the new Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon design which eschewed the arm stripes kept the red on the shoulders. The hips, on the other hand, taper to a point in the middle, so the leg stripes make the "arrow" into an "M", which looks weird.

This.

Agreed.

Oh well. I can overlook the design changes, it still looks like Spider-Man to me and that's all that matters.

IMO, makes sense in the theory but makes it look like sport pants.

I'd accept the stripes on the legs if at least they gave me proper spider-webs.

Completely Agreed.

I just don't see the need for the changes.

Same here. What the hell is going on with the gloves? Why the hell do the webs become random lines in some places?
