Comics Spoilers...Next issue of New Avengers..

Wilson Fisk might be a surprisingly formidable opponent due to his impossibly muscled frame, but he is still a normal human without powers. Spider-Man should always be able to defeat The Kingpin, because the Kingpin has no advantage unless one underestimates him (assumes he is slow because of his size, or assume he is fat, because of his size). But Spidey has far superior strength, speed and reflexes. A Skrull on the other hand at least have shapeshifting which is extended to organic and inorganic material. (Thus meaning they can use their abilities to become more durable, flexible or aggressive). Then you have Super Skrull and War Skrulls who are augmented to replicate the powers of other creatures. I am only working on this assumption, based on Super Skrull, but I wouldn't doubt it if these Skrulls had more than one power.

Indeed. you seem to be thinking along the same lines as me when it comes to Spidey in battle.

Enemies like the goblin and dock ock are enemies that Spidey can go punch for punch with.

Villians like Venom, Sandman, Juggernaut, electro, rhino, and even scorpion should always be villians he should think with in a fight.

I hate to admit it but Spidey is not a big leaguer hero. he's only got that status because he's a flagship character. having said that.

Cap is an experienced fighter whom STILL is written out of character when it comes to power as well. such as Spidey remembering cap blocking the hulk. seeing that Spidey is SERIOUSLY outclassed by the hulk...

It works both ways... as I've seen Spidey beat the Juggernaut and FireLord... people WAY outta his league.

:yay:

Great stories from AGES ago... not in the least relevant to the way Spidey is written now.:o

Spider-Man has a pretty fundamental basis to be considered a high intelligence in the Marvel rankings.

1)Web Shooters: This not only demanded that he create a device capable of ejecting a liquid at a very high PSI, it also called for the creation of a multi-purpose adhesive.

2)Spider-Tracers: Capable of emitting a signal that can be tracked by his spider-sense. Required mechanical knowledge as well as a biological knowledge.

3)Disarming Tony's Spidey Armor Fail Safes: Tony is easily the foremost mind of technology (or at least coming close to Forge). Peter, who mainly has a background in chemistry (not biology), was able to get around extensive programming in order to modify the fail safe.

I am all for putting Peter in his correct place. I agree that he isn't up there with Reed and Doom as world intellects, but I would not under rate him because due to the fact that his devotion is not science. At least not on a professional level. Reed spends more time inventing than fighting crime. The same some what goes for Pym. Banner was already a military funded scientist while Peter was still in high school. All things considered, Peter should be considered genius level. 3rd tier perhaps...but genius none the less.

I agree...It was one of my fav. things about Spidey.
I feel as if they first starting straying away from this when the movie franchise began.

i believe they were trying to dumb him down to make him more relatable.

Actually, the artist took responsibility for that faux pas in a Newsarama interview. It was supposed to be one of the Wrecking Crew, iirc, who broke Spidey's arm. He and Bendis were kind of laughing over how everyone jumped on Bendis for HIS mistake.

Aloha,
Leave it to you Capt. to come up with an answer for that out of continuity error. How long ago did that Newsrama article come out?

Indeed, Peter is not a power house. Though he has been pumped up from a class 10 to a class 15 (not sure if this applies after BND), he is still outmatched by quite a few characters, in terms of strength. I do however, feel that despite Spidey's position as a street level crime fighter, he is capable of dealing with far larger threats. A combination of precognition, immense intelligence, veteran skills and remarkable reflexes, have contributed to making Spider-Man a formidable opponent regardless of his physical short comings. Spider-Man is second to none in the 616 when it comes to field experience. While some heroes only come out for big threats (Nova, Fantastic Four etc), Spidey faces down bad guys regardless of the size of the challenge. So I agree that he isn't in league with the likes of Hulk, Thor or even Iron Man, but he is far from being 2nd tier also. I'd say he is more like the bottom five of the top tier.

I think that the film ditched things like Spider tracers and Web shooters, because there is no way to make Peter Parker appear to be financially destitute (which is why he first became Spider-Man), while at the same time having him create compounds and devices that would cost thousands to tens of thousands of dollars. Comic fans tend to have a greater sense of suspension of disbelief, but movie fans (critics) are quick to complain about things. At least that is my best conjecture. I too was disappointed that he void of his famous (and forgotten, until BND) tools of the trade.

I believe that over the years Spidey's strength has increased from less than 10 tons (when he was a teen.) to 10 tons as an adult to 15 tons after that weird queen arc. and back to 10 tons after BND seeing that he no longer has his organic webs.

and I agree about spidey's strength. I feel it makes him the hardest to rank in terms of power.

as for the movies...that does make plenty of since but its no big deal if they were to write it in it would only be as a nice nod or a small detail and wouldn't add much to the movie except for comic fans.
what is a big deal however is how poorly Spidey was written during a fight scene. He was turned into an all out brawler.

My main concern is,
No wise cracks to distract his foes.

Which really attracts me to the character of Spider-man more so than any other hero. Batman and Iron man had better lines.

such as "I won't kill you...but I don't have to save you."
