Star Trek Beyond - Part 1

I was never a big fan of Star Trek, always considered myself a casual viewer. I enjoyed ST09 and I was probably one of the few that liked Into Darkness lol.

But that trailer just seemed off to me. I don't really get a Star Trek trailer from it, more of a Fast and Furious vibe which makes sense as its the same director.

I'm hoping this is just how the trailer is and the film will be quite different.

I enjoyed the first 2 but this trailer seem so different in every way yeah new director I get it but man this does not look good

Yeah I was not a fan of this trailer. In fact the trailer reminds me of Star Trek Insurrection, with the crew being taken hostage on a rocky like planet.

Hopefully this is better than it's looking right now, but after seeing this trailer, my expectations just went way down.

I miss the polished look of Star Trek 2009/2013 compare to this new trailer. It looks like they had a smaller budget and it just doesn't look really expensive and polished. Then the trailer itself lacked drama and I wish it was longer. The song that they used was not good too.

They shouldn't use contemporary music for Star Trek.

Sorry guys, this looks terrible. I'm going to have to pass on this sequel.

After watching the teaser several times, it's grown on me. I'm hoping there'll be a bit more meat on it, story-wise.

And Kirk's hair irritates me.

Spock's hair looks weird. It looks more like a large wig this time, like how these other Vulcans or Romulans often looked, whereas Leonard Nimoy's Spock always looked like he used his own hair.

Agreed. Especially rap music of all things. Not that I have anything against rap as a genre, but it's the very last thing I think of when considering music for Star Trek.

I hope no such music plays in the actual film, especially over action scenes.

Beastie Boys isn't your typical rap.

The actually reference Star Trek and other nerdy things in their songs.

I don't care if they reference Star Trek. That has no bearing on whether or not the genre/song is appropriate for a film.

Next trailer they'll play some Bach, OK?

Star Trek is inclusive and tolerant of all cultures.

I don’t know. Yeah, WGA’s gotta figure it out because I never met the, I don’t even know who the writers are. I never met them. … I came on and I had an idea and then they came on and then it was January and we were shooting in June. … And I talked to Orci. One conversation after I came on. And that was it.

Hahaha Orci. I can only imagine how "truther" his movie was going to be.

Could've been worse. Could've been boring. Could've been those 1980s and 1990s TV versions of Star Trek (those with Patrick Stewart, as much as I love him as an actor).
I'm so gonna get killed in here because of this comments. Fan of the J.J. Abrams version. Let's hope Justin Lin won't eff' it up. The 5th Fast & Furious was fun, not really a fan of any other installments he did.

Although now I am picturing Kirk drinking Cristal off of an Orion dancing girl's ass.

Beastie Boys arent considered straight Rap. They are Alternative Rock, Hip Hop, and Punk. The closest genre they come to rap is Rap Rock which is surprisingly an actual genre.

Needless to day there are too many music genres.:funny:

Since this doesn't release for seven months, I'm sure we'll get a more substantial trailer by March at least.

Seem to be in minority, but I liked the trailer. Yep, it feels different to JJ, but escense of character still there. Will go & see it, if only, to support Trek films at the cinema but anticipate liking it.

so this is Elba. he is an alien villain. he doesnt look like a human. accept it. its should be a concern of the studio if their known actor is visible on screen and not us.

Hmm sounds like an allegory for America trying to force democracy and its way of thinking on other countries and regions of earth.

Even if it is an allegory I like the sound of it. The Federation would encounter cultures that dont like the Federstion's utopia style society and some species and cultures might view it as a threat.

Oh and what do yall think of the new transporter vfx?

I liked the trailer and I think Lin is saying the right things. Look forward to seeing a longer trailer.
