Star Trek Beyond - Part 1

That's a damn shame. They had 3 years and a 50 year anniversary to build the film around and we are possibly getting a film that they don't believe in. That s*** is disrespectful.

I liked the teaser and I think this gonna be good.

I do think the lack of new footage is a bit concerning

They don't really care about Trek. Consider who they gave this film over to in the first place.

Confidence with BEYOND must be somewhat there as a few sites have reported today that Paramount have registered Star Trek 4 with the MPAA.

And I cannot wait for Fantastic Four II. :cwink:

I'm looking forward to it and really enjoyed both films so far. I'm still excited.

I liked the first two movies as well and I will continue to hope for the best but I can't ignore that Paramount didn't hide those films, they didn't give those films lackluster marketing campaigns. I'm not being negative, I'm being realistic.

They have had one trailer, and it was underwhelming to say the least. They skipped CinemaCon.

You know you want it. :o

I would rather be choked out than watch a Fan4stic sequal.

Skipping CinemaCon was just a huge red flag more than anything.

I know we definitely aren't saying that they needed to mount a year long marketing campaign but this marketing campaign has been pathetic so far. This is their 50th anniversary movie and they are treating it like a mid budget September release. I'm not seeing the specialness (not a word) of the 50th anniversary right now.

The only person who wants a sequel to Fan4stick is The Guard.

It's just odd they fast tracked this to coincide with the 50th anniversary and then they've only had one trailer. I mean that's marketing prime meat right there. Right up there with "The End of so and so."

Comparing it to what they did with Bond's 50th, it is like it isn't even happening. But even still, this would be bad for a normal release.

Right Bond, I forgot about that for a moment. That is how you market a special anniversary.

Yep, the marketing is bad for a normal release.

Vrery strange. As I said, I liked the trailer but you have to be in denial to say the marketing is a bit strange.

We havent even gotten a poster out yet other than the one with the text.

Ahh DigificWriter, yes he is on the list as well.

Did he finally admit that Marvel was in charge of making the new Spider-Man movie and not Sony? I'm sorry, I know this isn't the right place for this question.

As a Bond fan, it was quite fun. Ended up with a lot of useless merch and buying movies I already had. :funny:

I don't know, and I don't care if this is the right place. I need to know the answer to this after what Feige said. Knowing him, he probably still denies it. :lmao:

Is this a joke? Star Wars isn't Star Trek.

I don't know the film's quality but one thing is for sure, the studio doesn't have faith in it.

Is your reply a joke?

I never said that the quality would be the same nor that it would equal Star Wars business. I said that they already largely have a built in audience. Most general audience have no idea at all about a director shake up. The only thing they know is that another Star Trek film is coming and that they, for the most part, liked the last two. If it's crap, then yeah the second weekend is going to be hit bad. But, they already have the first weekend sold thanks to 'Star Trek' and 'Into Darkness.'

If this was a first film, okay. It being the third film after a steady and successful earning of two? They basically already have their opening weekend. Anyone would be hard pressed to say that they don't have opening weekend earnings locked down by name and franchise promise of the past two alone.

It would be so funny if he still denied the truth. lol

Um that's not the way things work. A big film always has to have a good marketing no matter if it's a 2nd sequel or not. Furthermore, the studio aren't just marketing Beyond less they are barely marketing it at all.

My wife and I are looking forward to the next Trek. It is interesting that we haven't seen more promo for it by now.

BFG releases on July 1st, a Steven Spielberg movie and it has the same amount of marketing. Star Trek: Beyond opens on July 22nd. What? Are they letting the ball seriously drop with a Spielberg film as well now too? Again some things you can just market a lot when it comes closer. Other things you can not. They're clearly choosing to cut their marketing expenses to do a blitz the closer the film comes out because they know they already have the built up brand name trust going for them just like the marketing company behind BFG does.

If this was Star Trek 1 - then yeah, it would suck. Then they would have not built up the brand name at all. But, as said - when studios want to cut marketing costs, if they already have a strong enough brand name (which this does) they know they can cut costs and blitz people with a similar turn out.

I should stress I'm not even a Trekie or a die hard Star Trek fan, I just casually liked the last two - what they're doing is light as day though. They're cutting costs due to brand name and will blitz the closer it gets, generating more word around the actual release date while cutting expenses on the lead up.

Whether this is partly because they have a bad film or not, no idea - I will say that no one in the general public though is even giving that notion a thought. PLUS with all of the marketing around Batman and Civil War it would have got more than lost in the shuffle.
