Star Trek Beyond - Part 4

I don’t see this film doing any better than Beyond which I thought was a step in the right direction after Into Darkness.

gonna be strange without Chekov I hope they bring back the alien girl who was friends with 'montgomery scotty' back she was awesome plus I like that actress and want to see her return now in Starfleet.

Im happy to have them back. The 6/7 years between sequels is rough, they should just shoot 2 films back2back.

Gotta act fast before Pine's hair succumbs to nature.

I really hope this happens, I like long tenures from my Trek crews and this cast is too good to leave on the sidelines. There will always, always be a big part of me that wonders what QT's ST movie would have been, though.

Interesting math to consider…

September 1966 (TOS premieres) - December 1979 (The Motion Picture) = 13 years, 3 months

May 2009 (First Kelvin film) - December 2023 (projected release date for Fourth Kelvin) = 14 years, 7 months

We’ll have lapped the entire life of the original series AND the time ST was dormant before it was resurrected on the big screen by the time we get to number 4.

I liked 09 and STB a lot. So I'm not mad if the cast comes back (although I feel like every year we hear false starts for this project). I'm actually glad.

But they should either pass the torch or wrap up the main cast's story in this movie though. I can't see this being a box office success and I'd rather them get a good send off

EDIT: Damn I thought STB came out in 2018. Looking it up it came out it 2016. The wait between these movies was terrible. Kills all momentum

Between Beyond underperforming and Yelchin's death, I had just figured everyone had moved on and I didn't think we'd see a fourth film with that cast again but I'm game for another one.

I'm in for another Star Trek. I never saw the original series and I have no real connection with anything that came before but those three movies are a lot of fun.

Those statements "Oh this person just died, we are very sad and we are not going to do another one without that person" become bulls*** after several years. At the end of the day, it's all business.

True enough. They're soldiering on with a Black Panther sequel after Chadwick Boseman's death, after all. But the difference is that this Star Trek cast already got a trilogy and it's been almost six years since Beyond with basically no audience demand for another one so even if they didn't make another one it doesn't really feel like there's unfinished business there.

Well apparently there is audience demand as that’s why they picked this crew to lead another big screen adventure.

According to Variety, Paramount did market research to gauge interest to help decide how to move forward, including if they should bring back the Kelvin crew. Eventually executives “determined that there was still lasting audience enthusiasm for Pine, Quinto and the rest of the cast in their established roles, which allowed the studio to feel comfortable with moving forward with bringing them back.”

Star Trek 2023 Movie To Reunite Kelvin Crew, Production Set To Start By End Of Year [UPDATED]

Probably has most to do with people recognize the Kirk/Spock characters and Chris Pine as a movie star.

No Star Trek characters post-Next Generation has made any impact on general audiences. Probably the reason they’re not making a Discovery big screen movie, or anything from the current TV world.

I wouldn't want anything from Discovery anyway. Burnham is the worst character in Star Trek history.

Just my opinion.

Really hope things work out this time. This is a really great cast and these movies have been fun for the most part. If Shakman is still on board to direct, then hopefully he can come up with a good story and make a good film.

:wow: (not seen the originals).....
Well I saw Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan after watching the newer films.
Those are the only five Star Trek things I've seen.

Take on board and factor in it's an 'age' thing, I'm 47 and grew up on the original series and films, I'm old.

Oh I totally get that. I'm almost 36... I mean, I could've seen the original series and all, but I don't think it was around on TV in the 90's in my country. Just one of those 'big' things I never got around seeing. Same with X-Files, which I something I think I would have loved. I tried watching it from the start a while back and I liked it quite a bit, but it was just too many episodes and a lot of filler and I ain't got the time no more, honestly.

Ifnyou enjoyed Wrath of Khan, you’d owe it to yourself to complete that “trilogy” with 3 and 4. It completes that story. And if you enjoy those, finish with 6 which is a great finale to the OG crew. The JJ movies reference a lot from those 4 of the original set of movies.

I'm totally gonna watch those at some point for sure, yes. I liked The Motion Picture a little bit more than Wrath of Khan to be honest, which I think it's an unpopular opinion.

Interesting. They never really went back to that style or story again. It’s really like it’s its own one off.

Yes. It was closer to something like 2001 or 2010. I think that's why I connected in a different way. Or maybe I was just in the mood for that kind of film. Who knows, I liked it.
