I don’t see this film doing any better than Beyond which I thought was a step in the right direction after Into Darkness.
SOOOOOOOOOOO happy for the news of a 4th of this series. OMG![]()
Between Beyond underperforming and Yelchin's death, I had just figured everyone had moved on and I didn't think we'd see a fourth film with that cast again but I'm game for another one.
True enough. They're soldiering on with a Black Panther sequel after Chadwick Boseman's death, after all. But the difference is that this Star Trek cast already got a trilogy and it's been almost six years since Beyond with basically no audience demand for another one so even if they didn't make another one it doesn't really feel like there's unfinished business there. Those statements "Oh this person just died, we are very sad and we are not going to do another one without that person" become bulls*** after several years. At the end of the day, it's all business.
According to Variety, Paramount did market research to gauge interest to help decide how to move forward, including if they should bring back the Kelvin crew. Eventually executives “determined that there was still lasting audience enthusiasm for Pine, Quinto and the rest of the cast in their established roles, which allowed the studio to feel comfortable with moving forward with bringing them back.”
I never saw the original series and I have no real connection with anything that came before but those three movies are a lot of fun.
Well I saw Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan after watching the newer films.(not seen the originals).....

Those are the only five Star Trek things I've seen.
Take on board and factor in it's an 'age' thing, I'm 47 and grew up on the original series and films, I'm old.

I'm totally gonna watch those at some point for sure, yes. I liked The Motion Picture a little bit more than Wrath of Khan to be honest, which I think it's an unpopular opinion.Ifnyou enjoyed Wrath of Khan, you’d owe it to yourself to complete that “trilogy” with 3 and 4. It completes that story. And if you enjoy those, finish with 6 which is a great finale to the OG crew. The JJ movies reference a lot from those 4 of the original set of movies.

Yes. It was closer to something like 2001 or 2010. I think that's why I connected in a different way. Or maybe I was just in the mood for that kind of film. Who knows, I liked it.Interesting. They never really went back to that style or story again. It’s really like it’s its own one off.
