They couldn't design armor with phaser ******ant properties or something?

But no, a miniskirt in space is just silly. Especially in a professional space military.

we have miniskirts in our professional Navy

Whose military? And pictures, if you please. I've seen the battle dress uniform of most nations.

Though even so, you don't wear skirts in space for a reason.

US Navy dress uniform comes with an optional skirt for women. The skirt is about the same length as star fleet

Do you wear it on a warship going into combat?

And those are not the same length. Unless they've really changed the design.

Apparently Roddenberry wanted everyone to wear pants, but the female actors thought it was unflattering and too masculine.

Well, they're going to do what they're going to do. But I really would prefer something along the lines of Mass Effect (using an example most people would be familiar with) in an updated universe when it comes to Starfleet wardrobe. Utility, and plausibility.

You're just trying to get some of the guys here to sign up, right? ;)

if they knew what the average Navy girl looked like they wouldn't

also the Australian Navy also had a tropical uniform that consisted of short sleeves and shorts

New Star Trek uniforms...if I had to guess they may be dress uniforms

For sure; they're aren't that far off from what Pike wears at the end of the first movie. Just the color and the collar from what I can see.

it wasn't a matter of protection...more of a matter that the best way to disorient a squad of star fleet people is by taking out the guy in yellow

That's pretty easy to avoid, provided you don't have a "Kirk" type captain who shouldn't even be there.

That's why Kirk kept ripping off his shirt all the time: to make him a more difficult target, and to blind the enemy with the light reflecting off his oily, doughy torso.

The shape shifter from episode 2 (really 1) of TOS would actually make a descent movie villain.

Yeah, I made a mistake. The one that I linked isn't the one that I saw. I made a mistake, so my apologies. Either way I'm excited to see the movie.

I didn't see this posted here, so here you go, if you missed it off the main page. JJ Abrams did a little skit at the MTV Movie Awards this past weekend, and while doing a faux-interview, there was a monitor behind him that clearly showed a frozen image from Star Trek 2, in production. The image shows a Klingon, wearing the helmets seen in the deleted scenes from the previous film. It's been confirmed that this is a new image, and is from the sequel. Here is the new image, and also an image from the deleted scenes of the previous film to compare:

Place your bets now, ridges, or no ridges?
I think they're going to leave it ambiguous. Hence, the helmets. I expect we won't see a Klingon with his helmet removed. This way they avoid having to deal with the inevitable questions that would follow if they picked ridges or no ridges. Maybe a cop out, but still probably a smart one. Plus, I kind of like the design.
