I am going to hold my reservations on the new trilogy.. while its nice they have the mouse financially to back them up, Disney wants to ensure to have this be for a broad audience to earn the most money since they know darn well any Star Wars fan will see it regardless... Hopefully we get some plot ideas and newer actor announcements

They'll let Abrams make the movie he wants to make. They were smart enough to leave Marvel alone to do their thing and they got the biggest superhero film ever as a result.

Luke gave Mara his father's lightsaber at the end of The Last Command.

It was revealed in the Last Command that the Empire had managed to recover both the lightsaber as well as the severed hand clutching it. Palpatine chose to keep both as trophies, storing them in his vault on the planet Wayland. C'Baoth used the DNA from the hand to grow a clone of Luke that he armed with the aforementioned lightsaber. After C'Baoth and the clone were killed(Mara running "Luuke" through herself), Luke opted to give her the saber as a peace offering of sorts. She spent the next few years alternating between it and her purple saber before marrying Luke and using the Skywalker saber full time. After her death, it was retired and now serves as an heirloom piece.

Do people honestly think Chewie will be in these films? I don't. Although, it all depends on if once again Lucas completely ignores Expanded Universe canon. Chewbacca is dead. Mara Jade is killed by Jacen.

Now, they're going to have to explain these things to an audience who doesn't know any of this via either by the opening crawl or by pictures, flashbacks, you name it. I personally want Lucas to stay FAR AWAY from this as much as possible, and allow J.J. Abrams and Kennedy to do their own thing albeit I do worry Abrams might add in some time-travel B.S. or lens flares, or whatever, but I trust he'll make a good call.

To me, the core players should be Luke, Leia, Han, the droids, Lando, and the kids. That's it.
