Sci-Fi Stranger Things (Netflix) - Part 1

For a show that had a lower pop culture profile that would probably be true but this show is a juggernaut and after two hit seasons can likely weather this long period out of the spotlight.

It's the opposite for me. The smaller shows can't build that kind of momentum in the first place so I'm quite happy to consume them at a slow pace over multiple years, even if the whole lot is there ready to watch now. But for the likes of GoT and ST and a number of other shows in the past I get almost obsessed with them for a while but that loses steam if I have to wait much longer than the standard gap for TV shows. It's like reading a great book and ending halfway on a cliffhanger and then coming back to it much later after all the thoughts that were running through your head are barely there any more. In case it wasn't clear I'm talking about just the impact on myself, not how it affects the success of the shows overall. But anything that has to be weathered is usually not a good thing, although I do agree the shows have to shoot for top quality over keeping to a schedule.

Sounds like some serious mystery stuff will be going on. Perhaps Hopper will have to ask questions about how long that black site was around Hawkins and who (perhaps the mayor) benefitted from obscuring important facts about it.

I'm thinking it's more and more likely that other "siblings" to Eleven might be moving to Hawkins, perhaps with their more human evil allowing things to get darker.

I am hoping for a mix of local and Cold War intrigue.

I mean it makes sense that someone in the elite circles of Hawkins had some clue about the facility. And I hope we leave the Upsidedown alone and indeed concentrate on more earthly dangers this season.

If no one knows this: Target has the Blu Ray/DVD box set for 1st season at 10 bucks

Blind Item: Which Drama Series Is Eyeing a 20-Year (!!) Time Jump?

Saw a lot of comments suggesting Stranger Things as the show in question, and at first I brushed it aside. There's no way aging make-up would make the kids look anything other than ****ing ridiculous, and recasting is a no-go considering the fanbase they've all acquired.

But then I remembered the Duffer brothers bringing up Back to the Future a while back. Now I'm wondering if one/a few/all of the kids end up traveling forward twenty years, find Hawkins in the mid-2000s and a 60-ish Joyce and Hopper, and have to find their way back home.

… find Hawkins in the mid-2000s and a 60-ish Joyce and Hopper, and have to find their way back home.

And why would they do that? Mid 2000s had Internet and way better TV shows. No reason to go back :cwink:

I finished a re-read of The Dark Tower series yesterday (love those books so much), and I also happened to get a strong urge to rewatch Stranger Things from the beginning and it occured to me how well the two actually fit together, they could very concievably be set in the same universe. Especially as we know that Stranger Things was heavily influenced by Stephen King and his work.

You could say that the Upside Down is actually another version of earth where some kind of major cataclysmic event occured (a hole in reality was somehow created which allowed some of the creatures of the Prim to escape through, hence the demogorgon and the shadow monster), and humanity was therefore wiped out, explaining why it looks just like the Keystone World but all wrecked and ruined with no people. The border between our world and the other world has grown thin and begun to break down in and around Hawkins, explaining the portal in the woods. The laboratory is actually owned and run by the Sombra Corporation who have been kidnapping psychic children and conducting experiments with them in Hawkins to further the dimensional collapse and allow the creatures of the Prim to escape through into the Keystone World, speeding up the process of toppling the Dark Tower.

If we start to see random graffiti proclaiming "ALL HAIL THE CRIMSON KING!" popping up in season three, we'll know what's up.:cwink: And then an enigmatic, riddle-talking man in a black hooded robe will of course show up out of the blue in Hawkins with a grizzled, gun toting guy in a cowboy hat hot on his heels. :D

My Sunday ad says Stranger Things S2 be out this Tuesday, is that true?

Saw that in my Target ad as well. Also saw a behind the scenes companion sort of book at Barnes and Noble that was made to resemble an old library book, with the plastic cover and whatnot.

These folks really know how to market their ****.

It's funny you posted this, I'm on a re-read myself, I'm about halfway through the last book of that series this very minute. :D

Making a big presentation out of episode titles feels like a weird little future we've found ourselves in, but knowing how thirsty we all are for literally anything about the upcoming season, I can't really question the motive behind it.

was it true that they were filming season 3 and 4 simultaneously?

They did the same thing for Season 2

Man, these past two weeks have been better than Comic Con with all of these cool trailer and teasers.

Yes, been a good period with some great content.

I could see them doing a IT style time jump with some flashbacks to the younger cast.
