Suicide Squad box office prediction - Part 2

Back to topic I think trying to brand the Suicide Squad as a "sequel", an "ensemble movie" or a "original movie" is rather irrelevant. We'll see how the sequel does. Right now we can be happy about the title certainly hitting 700 million worldwide and thus leaving no doubt there's profitable business to be had. If the movie had failed, as some apparently wish, there would have been no second chances for that part of the franchise.

I guess now some people's mentality is to find negativity by hypothesizing how the sequels will fail

Yeah. It's doing great at the box office. Has made more than MoS already. Are they going to open in China? If so then they will clear a billion. Very surprising. But good for the dceu!!!

SS won't release in China and I'm sure it would have sailed past 800 million if Chinese markets were there for the movie.

SS is still a big hit anyway and as a DC comics fan, I'm lovin' it. :gngl:

Now, to keep it on topic, Suicide Squad has grossed much more than I thought it would, and without China, no less. While I didn't like the movie, weak multiplier for a franchise starter or not, that is impressive, most impressive!

Back to SS, I do believe that little competition did contribute to SS's great BO. Looking back earlier this year, BvS was nearly dead when Jungle Book opened, Dory was aiming to exceed TDK (let alone 500M) until Secret Life of Pets cut off her legs. If, say, Straight Outta Compton (60M OW) was dropped in SS's 2nd weekend then SS wouldn't make as much as it does.

Do you think Cap 3 would have been as much successful at Box office if they had decided to make a Captain America movie with some other story (not Civil War), without guest stars like Iron Man, Vision, Spider-Man, Ant Man, War Machine, Black Widow ?

Because that would have been an honest sequel to Cap 2. Anyway, back to discussing Suicide Squad.

Definitely not as successful but still a fair amount more successful than Winter Soldier. However, this whole thing came up as a poster was talking about future of Suicide Squad sequels probably having a larger opening weekend but being more front-loaded, as is the case with sequels usually. That's all sound, but then they went on to say that The Avengers sequels have had smaller ooening weekends, citing AOU and Civil War.

That's why I was arguing that Civil War is actually a Cap film with some added advantages over a regular Cap sequel.

I'm just wondering whats taking WB so damn long to announce the follow up. This thing will cross $700M soon, its a worldwide hit. Give the people more.

Well they have October 2018 and November 2019 open. However, you'd think one of them would be JL Dark.

WB will announce potential sequels and an extended cut (if they plan to do it at all) when SS ends it's run in theaters in the domestic markets. We'll hafta wait till then for the good news.

It's different for everyone, for MOS a sequel was announced a month after it's release and for GOTG, a sequel was announced a month before it's official release.

Wasn't it $675m yesterday? It only jumped $3m? Or are there still more updates from other territories?

JL is up against a Pixar film (Coco) a week after its release.
Essentially it is sandwiched between a Marvel Studios release, a Pixar film and a Star Wars movie with possible strong counterprogramming if Creed 2 and Murder on the Orient Express keep their november release dates.
It's not awful but not as good as BvS or SS. I think April 2018 would be a much safer spot but given that they already have Tomb Raider and Ready Player One scheduled for March they're probably gonna try to avoid competing against themselves (and more direct comparison with Infinity War).

I don't know, I think "awful" about describes it. I mean, Star Wars is far enough ahead to not *really* matter much, but sandwiched between Marvel and Pixar is not where WB wants to be. I suspect they'll try to move the release, but I'm not sure if they have any good choices.

Justice League is in a hard spot because yeah its going to be sandwhiched in between two marvel films
Thor might end up doing really well as it has some momentum now by adding Hulk

Then you have Creed 2 which might still be coming out then and also have Star wars the next month.

If they want to reach the child market by lightening up JL too then Coco will probably hit them there the week after

Not sure why they couldn't just switch WW and JL's release dates but I believe this schedule came about because Star Wars was initially supposed to come out in May and then moved to December

Does everyone announce a sequel on the same terms or do some do so when its a success but has a director writer and story in mind and other companies work on that at a later time?
As for JL isn't that still filming? I get nervous when movies are rushed out..then again I still operate under the idea that big budget films should take 2yrs.

they are fine JL comes out 14 days after thor 3 thats plenty of time for thor to make a bulk of its domestic intake and thor is not the biggest money making marvel franchise anyways

star wars comes out 30 days after JL plenty of breathing room

sure it would of been better to get an august release date but they aren't even done filming it yet

It's not going to help either that is going to be the 5th and last major cbm that year after Wolverine 3, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Wonder Woman and Spider-Man Homecoming.
And there are also rumors of Pitch Perfect 3 moving to an early december spot to avoid SW (it's currently slated to be released a week after SW8) which is possibly bad news for JL.

pitch perfect lol its is a successful franchise in comparison to its small budget but its no juggernaut like hangover or something

The last one did 70M owe and 184M dom, if the third one opens early december (which is a rumor the movie is still scheduled for december 22nd) it could potentially do some damage.

It's getting tough for everyone. A lot of popular super hero movies will fail from now on. There is just not enough money in people's pockets to justify so many big budget movies.

To the contrary, I think what will start showing is which movies actually *are* popular, and which ones aren't. You won't be able to coast with a dubious product as easily. . . which should worry WB a lot.

i think its more likely pitch perfect moves away from those dates then JL moves away from pitch perfect lol
