i think its more likely pitch perfect moves away from those dates then JL moves away from pitch perfect lol

Pitch Perfect will work as big blockbuster counterprogramming. The second movie did impressive numbers sandwiched between Age of Ultron and San Andreas and was also released the same week end as Mad Max Fury Road.

JL can't come earlier. Principal filming will finish about October and then pick ups will be around February. That's about 7 months to complete effect, soind and editing. There's no way they can move forward wirh a production of this magnitude.

I imagine Warner Bros wants to keep that mid November slot for JL so I think it'll stay put. The only other possible slot is Spring 2018 if they moved up Ready Player One but I doubt it would happen

WB killed it this Summer despite what people think about how they run their Studio

Whoever supervises their horror movie slate needs either a big raise or a promotion.
Conjuring 2 and Lights Out are absolutely killer, well budgeted, well marketed and well produced movies. They grossed respectively 8X and 28X times their production budgets. That's just insane.

I'd be curious to see how Zootopia and Jungle Book would look on this chart.

And holy ****, Secret Life of Pets! I genuinely loved that movie, happy to see it do so well

Agreed, I love horror films and I love when small movies make big money, so it was nice to see that there's still a big audience for a good horror flick.

I'm not really surprised by Disney, i mean they do have Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and Disney animation films that do gangbusters every year.

Not to mention their Live Action Fairy Tale movies.

Can't even give WB credit when they earned it?
Nobody is saying Disney didn't do well; they made the most money, but congrats to WB for producing the most summer hits especially after their bad 2015.

To the contrary, I think what will start showing is which movies actually *are* popular, and which ones aren't. You won't be able to coast with a dubious product as easily. . . which should worry WB a lot.

This. Cultivating a strong brand and a tonne of goodwill is exactly the sort of insurance WB/DC smply doesn't have; at least for now anyway.

And they've got a $4b debt to pay off

I think they don't have to worry about that......

Analysts predict Star Wars merch will generate some $3 billion in sales in 2015, and $5 billion over the next 12 months.

Not even including the movies.

That would be 8 billions in merch revenues in just 2 years or is it 5 millions total for 2015/2016 ???!!! Damn, you would have to wonder why they even bother with the movies (edit: Well their net profit on EpVII reached $780M in March 2016, which is nothing to sneeze at but that looks like petty cash compared to the profit coming from merchandising).

It's synergy, a successful movie leads to bigger merchandise sales. The box office money and ancillary revenue is good but as we've seen with Cars, it doesn't matter in the long run.

Fox was not real impressive this summer.

Cars is getting a 3rd sequel. While I wait for Incredibles 2.

Cars merchandise is super popular, just visit one of their parks.
