Supergirl Supergirl General Discussion Thread - - - Part 12

Congrats to them

I’ve long thought next season will be Supergirl’s last and now I definitely do after this news.

Might be, but I think the slightly shortened season and then a possible late start on next season are the only direct effects there will be from this news. But this is indeed one more reason Melissa might not want to renew her contract when it’s up, and she had plenty already, IMO. I’ll be really surprised if she does at this point.

I can see it being a huge factor now that she’ll have a family that she’ll want to be home more with the little one. Is her contract for 6? I’ve long thought she wouldn’t renew but they may have gotten an Arrow type thing where she’d maybe sign on for one final shorter season. I think 7 seasons is the max I see Supergirl going.

I think it's pretty likely season six will be shortened but that depends on how late in the year they can film. Agreed, I don't see a scenario where she renews her contract.

I can't think of a TV show that ended because of a pregnancy.

Standard TV lead contracts are seven years. Grant actually mentioned that at SDCC. Stephen did seven and was persuaded to do a short season eight.

They should definitely book Izabela Vidovic, Olivia Nikkanen, and Helen Slater for a flashback episode in season 6. An episode like “Midvale” could be filmed almost entirely without Melissa. Make it one of the first episodes filmed even if it’s shown as a later episode.

This I can definitely see.

Also congrats to Melissa and Chris on their announcement.

I can accept Supergirl ending after the 6th season. I hope there will be a crossover with both Sujperman and Lois and Batwoman before it ends.

They could've booked them full time if Crisis had happened after this pregnancy and they wanted to say that the Danvers were now younger.

Melissa's contract could be different because the show started on CBS. Did her contract carry over, or is it a new one entirely? I wouldn't be surprised if next season is the last.
If the show ends before season seven I don’t think it will be because of Melissa’s contract, I don’t think the network switch matters. Assuming she signed the industry standard seven year contract when the show started on CBS, her contract may well have transferred. The CW is a partnership between CBS and Warner Brothers, this is not the same as say when Fox canceled Brooklyn 99 and NBC picked it up.

Even if she had to sign a new contract and assuming CW under the circumstances allowed a less than seven year one why would they go for less than six years. I can see Melissa and/or her management balking if CW had asked for a new seven year contract but why would they ask for less than six. If she had to sign a new contract six years would’ve made sense to all parties.

Bottom line I believe somehow she’s signed for seven seasons total.

The problem with contacts is there are always little intricacies to the details. She may have an out, the 7th season could be optional if she’s even signed a 7 year contract. She may not quit the show or decided that’s it but everyone is different. When you have children it changes the game.

It's a great news for Melissa but is the beginning of the end for us.

Recent low ratings - New Superman Series - Melissa is pregnant = Dead of the show.

Money or not money, after the gravidance Melissa would never spend every minute of her life and her baby First years on the set in such demanding show! I think the season six it would be the last like the mini-season of the Arrow(10-12 episode)

First of all,Congrats to them. second, I don't know, we will probably have to wait till next year for season 6. with Superman and Lois and maybe LOT first, 7 is probably all we are going to get.

I’ve thought 7 would be the Max for a while. I guess we’ll see what happens in the next few months but I can see 6 been it as it stands.

Congratulations to the parents-to-be. :toth

Even if S6 can be juggled to accommodate this happy event (fewer episodes, later start?), I supposed this means that Benoist guest-starring on Batwoman, Superman & Lois and the next crossover is unlikely…

If Clark and Lois still had babies instead of grown sons, Melissa could've had her baby stand in for them and could come round to do some babysitting.

Oh man Kara babysitting the supersons as babies could have made for a fun episode

Good for Melissa! Though I think SG days are definitely coming to an end. Maybe if the show still shot in Cali, I could think she'd stay on longer than S6/7.

Great news for them and a happy congratulations!

Though I say that with sadness at the thought of the show ending...:csad: Really hope not though, esp if they could reboot it with a younger Kara. This would be a perfect opportunity to get a teen Supergirl, with Kara being somehow turned back into her younger self.

Get Izabela Vidovic as the teenage Kara. Imagine if somehow she's turned into a teen and Chyler has to look after her, even though they were both enjoying life as adults not that long ago. Also imagine how teen Kara would have to cope with not being part of the working world and having a job at CatCo, but having to go back to school. I don't know if they would go that far, and whether she would have to quit her adult life, but it might be hard to continue with that possibly.

I'd rather though that both Kara and Chyler became teens and not just one of them.

Hoping to get more bigger named DC characters next season. I know the writers have been wanting to get Lobo to make an appearance since season 1. No better time than now considering the Lobo Krypton spin off is dead.

I also feel an appearance from Vixen would be nice too. The modern day (Non Amaya) version still exists and hasn't been used at all.

It would also answer 'Chyler's' desire to be a mother.

I could imagine a scenario with Kara being afflicted with some terminal 'space disease' and the only way to save her would be to revert every atom in her body to a younger version. But, they accidentily go too far and boom, there's a 13 or 14 year old Kara looking up at a whole bunch of new 'aunts' and 'uncles!'

Hey, that would solve the whole 'William' thing too!:D

Well William will immediately back off.

It was inevitable. Batwoman has stopped too. But no mention of Legends, unless that's all finished already.

Yep, this was only a matter of time. They were shooting the finale on SG though (since its episode count was gonna be a little shorter) and probably only had a week of shooting tops left to go, so I’m a little surprised they didn’t decide to let them finish. But I’m glad they decided safety first! This thing is no joke, and their star is pregnant, which puts her more at risk than usual.
