Supergirl Supergirl General Discussion Thread - - - Part 12

That post is from writer Katie Rose Rogers, not Melissa. This was the last episode she wrote for the season and is apparently leaving the show.

What does she mean her last episode of Supergirl airs? Is she not in the episodes after this week until the end of the season? Did she go on maternity leave?
Every Supergirl fan knows that “katierosereptar” is Katie Rose Rogers - a writer on the show. And apparently, she’s leaving the show. Man, get with the program!

(Just joshing. I had no idea what the Instagram meant until I looked up the user.)

2021 Schedule
Sunday:

8/7c: Batwoman
9/8c: Charmed

Monday:

8/7c: All American
9/8c: Black Lightning

Tuesday:

8/7c: The Flash
9/8c: Superman & Lois

Wednesday:

8/7c: Riverdale
9/8c: Nancy Drew

Thursday:

8/7c: Walker
9/8c: Legacies

Friday:

8/7c: Penn and Teller
9/8c: Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Supergirl is likely sitting out while Melissa is pregnant? Surprised Charmed climbed out of Fridays and that they arent using Fridays anymore.

With Melissa on maternity leave and the 5th season getting its lowest numbers, they should have plenty of time to come up with better stories for the 6th season.

I get the delay for Melissa’s pregnancy (though I’m surprised it was still necessary since everything’s been delayed now), but as usual, these are some puzzling scheduling choices by the CW. Superman & Lois getting the strongest lead-in, as if it needs that? “World’s Finest” crossover with Superman & Batwoman who’ve been in 2 crossovers without any setup for this or interaction to speak of thus far (and after building up/talking up Supergirl/Batwoman for a whole season)? Just weirdness.

I said ages ago I think pairing the Flash & Superman together was a good idea cause tonally they’re likely to be similar shows.

As for the Batwoman crossover the report did state that some other heroes would also appear. I will also add that we can’t judge as they haven’t started building towards it yet so it will likely make all the sense in the world when it happens.

The article said something about the two series' schedules not coinciding with a possible crossover. Oh, and of course, there's the little matter of Melissa Benoist being on maternity leave, a matter conveniently overlooked in said article.

Which doesnt make sense because all it would take is make sure that Melissa can accommodate showing up for a few scenes in Batwoman. If she can do a play and film at the same time....she could do an episode of Batwoman (strictly speaking about the BW/SG schedule).

A lot of actresses don't do full on maternity leave when they are on network television, usually take 1-2 episodes off and then return. But with SG likely pushed to Summer, it will have worked out well for her.

You’d have thought that would have been the first thing they mentioned.

The cbr article is poorly written. But even the original TVLine source is somewhat confusing/ambiguous. The interviewer is asking Dries about Batwoman’s “finale” and the last two unfilmed episodes. And it’s implied that a guest appearance/cameo by Benoist was part of the original plan (Kate, for some reason, needs Kara’s permission to destroy the kryptonite ). Now, as we know, these two episodes will be incorporated into Batwoman’s second season and will be the first ones shot. So it’s in that specific context that Dries speaks of schedules and availability not lining up (because Supergirl will be starting later). But this doesn’t necessarily rule out a more substantial/proper crossover later in the season. Needless to say, this assumes that the respective productions in Vancouver overlap at some point.

Given how Kate got the Kryptonite I can see why she’s go to Kara about it.

Although Pagey pointed out in one of his videos that Kate shouldn’t really have still had it as Crisis wiped everything out and when they awoke they wouldn’t have had the things they had when Crisis reset everything.

Given how Kate got the Kryptonite I can see why [she’d] go to Kara about it.

It’s kinda weird that Superman “goes rogue” so often that he decides to bestow a chunk of kryptonite to Batman for just those occasions. :oldrazz: Likewise, now, for Supergirl and Batwoman.

In any case, I don’t follow the “logic” of Kate needing to ask Kara about the kryptonite. Kate is facing a very immediate threat; and the possibility of Kara going nutso at some future time is only theoretical. Moreover, once Kate deals with Alice, Kara can always FedEx a new sample of kryptonite over to Gotham - since National City is lousy with the stuff. :word: Clearly, the “shared continuity” between the two shows about the ubiquity of kryptonite doesn’t match up. But it seems like this would be a pretty obvious/easy thing to keep straight.

Well the whole plot point of kryptonite being needed to kill Batwoman is a hole unto itself. All Alice has to do is walk up to Kate, say 'surprise!' and shoot her in the head.

But yes, I'm thinking Kara would be alright with Kate destroying the kryptonite if it could be turned into a threat against Bat-suit.

That plot-thread could be cut with paper scissors...

As to National city being 'lousy' with it, I'm thinking all that kryptonite - and there sure was a hell of a lot of it! - was a tightly held secret.

Shooting someone in the head seems to be a forgotten thing. Batwoman was being shot at from all sides and all they focused on was everywhere that wasnt her face lol

You can forget about Melissa and Ruby teaming up come next year.

Yeah, but they were all standing within like five paces. That's a small target to hit at that distance...:o

“What’s exciting for Kara is the amount of possibilities,” Melissa Benoist tells TVLine of her character’s love life. “She’s had quite a bit of time to herself without any love interests, so I think it’s great that there was a possibility at all in Season 5. I would anticipate it even going into Season 6, with complications arising, but I’m glad people are curious. What’s really fun on TV is watching slow burns with romance, so I think people can expect that.”
Supergirl Star Looks Ahead to Season 6: What's Next for Kara and William's 'Slow Burn' Relationship?

I dont know why this show is so bad with romance....I do not get anything from them.

So FYI writers, when the characters go on a date within a couple episodes of Character A deciding Character B isn’t total scum, that ain’t a slow burn. Moreover, calling that “romance” a slow burn is hilarious because it implies there is any kind of “burn” there at all. There’s not. It’s cold as ice. It’s DOA. Just accept failure and cut William loose.

This topic being brought up now (with the interview conducted months ago for the finale post-mortem) suggests to me that there was something in the unaired finale that pushed this relationship forward, and I’m officially not looking forward to whatever that is in the S6 premiere, lol.

I hope "slow burn" means "keeping it casual" for most of the season. I have not had much of an issue with William, mainly because it hasn't been presented as very serious.

They just have to throw a love interest in there at every turn. Remember back when this was on CBS and she had a weird crush on Jimmy for like the first two seasons?

It was just the first season. She dropped that like a bad habit (seriously, it had to be a landspeed record!) in the S2 premiere, lol. But of course they immediately brought in Mon-El. I don't think it's a coincidence that by far their best season was S4, and that was the only season where she didn't have a love interest. They just suck at romance, period. Which is one thing when you're having easily-overlooked bad romances with your side characters that only take up a couple minutes of screentime tops per episode, but when it's with your main character, it drags everything down in a big way.

It didn't feel like William was overpowering the show or the story, so I was fine with it. [shrug]

Unlike Mr. Benoist.
