No, it’s not that black and white for either character. Both personas are something of a performance for each and the “real person” is somewhere in between - the person they only get to be with close friends and loved ones. So it’s really like 3 separate characters, not two. I like to think of their “Super” persona as our equivalent of a “public speaking” mode - the way we are when we know all eyes are on us so we are careful to be on our best behavior. It’s their celebrity mode, essentially, as they’re on guard not to reveal anything too private or personal. They don’t get to be that person who just wants to kick back, relax and have a beer and watch movies or whatever when they’re in the uniform. Then in their “work” persona, they get to let their quirks show more freely and be more personal, but they also have to downplay their more “super” attributes. It’s only with those truly closest to them that they get to totally be their true selves. With Superman, it's been the opposite, hasn't it? Clark Kent is the alter ego and Superman is who he is. I imagine Kara is the same way, Kara Danvers would be her 'mask.' But they've muddied that up a bit in the series haven't they?
