I guess I am in the minority here, but I love the new suit.

I think the boots like this look better.

I like the new suit too, except the boots. Would prefer boots with knee pads, per the photo above (though obviously, differently coloured).

It's a shame Kryptonians don't get hot and cold like the rest of us, then Kara could alternate between the tights and the skirt depending on the weather. I always thought it strange that our heroes only ever wore one costume; you'd think they'd have a couple, all depending on what it is they're up against.

Barry for example could have a streamlined suit when running is the primary goal, then a techy suit for when sheer speed just isn't enough, then maybe a casual suit. Ollie would have a tech suit, maybe a urban suit and a shadow suit or something.. What do our heroes/vigilantes do when their one and only costume is in the wash?

I like the new suit too. I have to wonder if some of the dislike for the suit is because unlike any other Arrowverse hero's suit we've had years to grow an attachment. Melissa changing her hair has created an additional visual change to a character who's look has been virtually unchanged since the beginning of the show. It's much more acceptable to voice dislike for the suit than Melissa's personal choice so that's what's happening. The suit change coming at the same time as a haircut is probably jarring to very visually oriented people. I'm not a visually oriented and I found it jarring at first but quickly got over it. Subconsciously we may also be worried that a visual change in Kara's look will also mean the character we've come to know will act different too. Hopefully once the season actually starts and we see that Kara's still Kara just with a new look the suit talk will die down.

Those are pretty good points. Though, I also love her new hair style. The new costume and appearance seems more... Confident?

It's not that. First, I love her new hairstyle and was hoping for that. But the original costume she had is iconic with the red skirt. It also breaks up the blue much better. The new one has too much blue without red in that area to make it less bland. Also I prefer the cape on the original instead of those cape clasps.

It's got nothing to do with the reasons you suggested and I wouldn't have even thought of those.

To each, their own.

Thanks! Confident is a word I'd use another is powerful. After four years Kara's earned that confidence. She's always been one of the most powerful beings in the multiverse and now she looks like it. Everyone has preferences nothing wrong with that at all. I think our preference's are worth some self examination. Are they rooted outdated stereotypes or traditions that no longer serve a purpose besides "that's the way it's always been done" or "it's iconic". It's human nature to gravitate to the familiar. Not here but in other places I've seen extreme hate for pants but when asked why the answer is something like "well Supergirl should wear a skirt and anything else is just not Supergirl". I have to wonder if they've examined that answer. That's very different from those who can say specifically what they would change like more color or no cape clasps (BTW the cape clasps allow the cape to be detachable thus freeing Melissa from the corset). In closing as Socrates said "An Unexamined Life is not Worth Living" IMO we would all do better with some self examination.

I love the new suit too, but yeah, the boots aren't great.

As ugly as thigh-high boots may (or may not) be, there’s perhaps a “design” rationale: they make exposed legs look less vulnerable. (Note that the current Wonder Woman also has thigh-high boots/greaves.)

So switching to a full bodysuit (no exposed legs) would seemingly be the ideal time to return to the more traditional calf-high boots. But… maybe they have a closet full of the old boots they wanted to use up.:cwink:

Neah, you're not in a minority. Though I loved the old outfit, I do like the new suit. It could use red greaves, but I think the boots are fine.

And yes, confident is a great descriptive word for her new look!

I think the appeal of the new suit for me is that it is perhaps less sexualized? Not that the previous version has been the most sexualized the character has been presented in various media. But the new consume is far more functional and practical for Superheroics. Yeah, I get that I need to suspend disbelief when talking about physics of superhero shows, but a mini skirt just seemed a bit... well, you know. I appreciated the classic appearance they went with at the launch of the show.
This new one just makes more sense to me. And for melissa's sake in those cold winters.

I like the new suit, design-wise. So far I prefer the materials of the old one, though. But I haven't actually seen this one in action yet so it could change. Right now it just looks...cheaper to me, but we'll see.

Congrats to the Supergirl cast and crew for winning the Saturn Award for Best Superhero Series. Melissa Benoist and the showrunners Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller accepted the award on the show's behalf and thanked cast and crew in their acceptance speech. Looking forward to the 5th season.

Here's the acceptance speech with Melissa and the showrunners.

Chris was there too and walked they walked the red carpet together.

Dang she towers over them.
. Lol

‘Supergirl’ Casting: Mitch Pileggi And Cara Buono Join Season 5 – Deadline

Cara Buono (Stranger Things) and Mitch Pileggi (The X-Files) have been cast in recurring roles as ancient aliens in the fifth season of Supergirl, The CW series that returns on Oct. 6.

Buono will recur as Gamemnae, an ancient alien, who with others of her kind, have been safeguarding the Earth from the follies of humanity throughout the ages. Gamemnae’s aim is to use technology to subjegate humans. Gamemnae is cunning, witty, ruthless, and always ten steps ahead of her adversaries. Gamemnae’s agenda puts her into conflict with her would-be allies and on a collision course with Supergirl.

Pileggi will recur as Rama Khan, an ancient alien who is able to control the four ancient elements — fire, water, earth, and air. Arrogant and willful, Rama Khan has been entrusted to use his powers to protect the Earth from mankind for millions of years but now his agenda puts him at odds with Supergirl as well as Lena Luthor.

The two characters were introduced in 2002 in the DC Comics series called JLA, an acronym for the Justice League of America. In the comics their ancient magic and grand schemes are tied to Atlantis, the fabled city that exists beneath the waves of the ocean.

Pileggi, well remembered as FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner on The X-Files, will also be recurring on the next seasons of American Horror Story and The Rookie. On the film side, he recently shot Axis Sally opposite Al Pacino.

Buono can be seen on the critically acclaimed Netflix hit Stranger Things. Buono recently co-starred opposite John David Washington in the Sundance winner Monsters & Men and was recently featured in Amazon’s The Romanoffs and Lifetime’s remake of The Bad Seed with Rob Lowe and McKenna Grace. She was Emmy-nominated for her work as Dr. Faye Miller on Mad Men.

Love both those actors. Nice gets.

I haven’t been keeping up with the comic storyline, but I guess we’re to assume these ancient aliens are the ones behind Leviathan.

Well maybe Mitch Pileggi will have a Dallas reunion with Brenda Strong. Although they should've cast Judith Light instead of Cara Buono.

EW is now reporting Welling will be reprising his Smallville role.....I'm sure this will excite many. Kind of a meh for me, not a big fan of his. BUT the question of is he, isnt he has been answered. As far as the new recurring roles on SG...both great actors looking forward to it.

So Tom Welling wasn't trolling the guy on Twitter than we thought.

I wonder if he will interact with both Tyler and Brandon.

Since Brandon is playing the Kingdom Come Superman, I think Tom's Smallville role will take the place of the Earth-2 Superman.

Out of the 3 Supermen, I can see Tyler's Superman appearing in all 5 parts. I wonder which parts of the Crisis crossover will Brandon and Tom appear in.

I can imagine Tom wearing the New 52 suit that is Superman t-shirt, jeans, and small cape.

I'd also like Laura Vandervoort to reprise her role as Kara. I know she already played Mystique Indigo in season 1, but she could always play a different character since Brandon Routh is doing that too.
