Supergirl Supergirl General Discussion Thread - Part 7

Pretty certain Flashpoint is going to be well and done by the time we get to the crossover.

I shudder to think what the Arrow writers will do to Kara. Can the Supergirl writers take care of the whole crossover, please?

That is what I'm worried about on the Arrow part. I'm concerned that they will drag Supergirl down to Arrow's level of writing.

First look at Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.

Is that official or fan art? Why does Superman look so thin? It looks like a composite, because it doesn't look like they were photographed at the same angle.

And he should've had the S curl.

I like his suit. Reminds me a bit of Injustice. Not a fan of his expression or pose, though. Definitely looking forward to seeing him in action on SG.

I'm not feeling that at all. Hopefully he'll look better on-screen.

He looks really skinny.

Glad to see the classic shield though.

This is a strange one, I mean it's a horribly composed pic with him looking really awkward and his head looking manipped on.....however the suit itself looks great, nice big \S/, good tones on the red and blue and I dig the cape attachments on the shoulders.

They should never have released this as the first official pic. Who approved this when everyone who sees it can immediately tell it looks badly composed and composited from two different angles?

In the first place, why couldn't they photograph them together at the same time? Then we wouldn't have this angle problem. Unless they deliberately did this to make him look taller because he looked too short next to Melissa in real life?

I don't watch the show but would there be an in-story reason as to why Supergirl has a different Super-crest than Superman? Her's without the gold.

In the comics they have the exact same shield correct?

He kind of looks like these skinny people who dress up as Superman for a fancy dress party. Now he obviously isn't skinny, but that suit makes him look thin. And he could actually stand to be more built. I have a feeling if you put him next to Jimmy Olsen, he's not only going to look shorter but smaller built as well.

It's a terrible photo - I have no idea what they've done to his usually gorgeous face.

But, the suit looks pretty good. I had hoped that they might embrace the Golden Age costume, complete with the brighter colours and red trunks because it would fit the brighter and more optimistic world of Supergirl. But, I guess sticking with the current comic book and movie design makes sense (although how he hides those stupidly big boots and heavy and thick cape as Clark Kent is questionable).

I also like the slimmer look for Superman. If Supergirl and Wonder Woman and other female heroes with super powers can all be traditionally slim, I'm not sure why Superman can't have a more realistic body shape. I'm not a big fan of Superman resembling a rubber glove stuffed full of walnuts.

Haven't people learned by now not to pass judgment on something based solely on a photo?

People were all up in arms about Kara's costume based on the first initial photo, only to have their complaints disproven once we saw it in live-action... and yet history is repeating itself with her cousin's costume.

* sigh *

But I think more people are passing judgment on the photo itself than the costume, because it is so poorly taken and composed.

It's simply opinions, they can give them all day AND all night long here.

BUT...it's going to be a tougher sell...at least for me. The "S" is the cool thing about it...a sort of dedication to Christopher Reeve. I guess I have to get used to no red trunks thanks to Man of Steel and Cavill (CURSE YOU ZACK SNYDER!!). Melissa's outfit I wasn't sure about myself, but seeing further pics of it turned me around almost overnight! Seeing it in action seemed to seal the deal.

Digging into Supergirl.TV's Facebook photo page, one of the first pictures after the initial that got people buzzing...the visit of the OK Girl Scouts. it was also the first to increase Melissa's cute factor.

This one (actually from Mehcad Brooks' Instagram) shows how in the sun the colors of the costume pop. Of course having Mehcad's niece Zara adds into the cuteness factor along with Melissa's cheery smile...

And lastly (really from Ali Adler's Instagram) even when asleep in the sun, Supergirl looks cute.

I hope Geoff Johns, who now runs DC Entertainment and is a fan favorite can correct the oversights with Tyler's costume.

Well, I'm speechless.
We've finally crossed the bridge where there is no excuse to have TV emargos on any other DC characters.

We're closer and closer to a Justice League on television.

Superman
The Flash
Martian Manhunter
Green Arrow
Supergirl
Firestorm
The Atom

^ Completely separate from the movie universe. I can't believe how far it's come from just Arrow in 2012.

Considering Supergirl's first publicity photo didn't look great, they should know by now not to shoot it inside a darker studio but shoot it in natural sunlight or daylight. It looks much better there. People would've probably found the first shot of Superman to look better even if it had been an informal Instagram photo where he was smiling and at a more normal angle.

It's just artistic license on the part of Winn(Supergirl/Kara's friend and co-worker who made the suit). There's no reason every Super-family member has to wear the exact same S symbol. And no, they don't have the same symbol in the comics. Superman's is more the usual S symbol while Supergirl's is based on the Electric Superman symbol.

Only bad thing about the pic is the look on his face. It's like he didn't know they were taking his pic yet.

Not like these first looks are any better either:

But they both ended up looking great in action.

I like it, but I'd like it more of there were more traditional elements.
