I think Supergirl and Flash will last as long as CW wants superhero shows or until they stop wanting to make more seasons, whichever comes first.

To me, the ideal length of a show is 5-7 seasons. Any shows I've watched that have gone on longer than that pretty much outstayed their welcome, imo. Depending how well the move to the CW goes, I could see Supergirl lasting that long. How long do people think Supergirl will run for now that it's on the CW? As long as Arrow so far? Or longer like Smallville?
You don't mention Arrow or LoT in there. Do you think they have a limited shelf life?
If Guggenheim continues alienating non-Olicity shippers than I could see Arrow running into some trouble.
I'm sorry, but comments like this are starting to reach the level of "ridiculous conspiracy theory".
Arrow will run until they've told the story they want to tell.
As much as I'd love to see a Superman spin off I can't see that happening (although one can hope).
I think the biggest two factors that would prevent an Superman spin-off from taking place are:
1. The Current Cinematic Superman existing in the form of Henry Cavill (well technically, the character is presumed dead.lol) Being an potential recurring character is one thing but having an whole dedicated to himself is another thing.
2. Superman's world is too similar to Supergirl's world. One of the key things about each of these DC-TV shows is that they all feel different: Arrow (Human Vigilante), Flash (Speedster who fights meta-humans), and Legends who fight against Time Invaders.

This is an interesting point. It hasnt escaped notice that Supergirl has borrowed many elements from the Superman mythos. In context, not a big deal because: A) Theres no current Superman TV show for direct comparison - so why not appropriate some of the classic tropes? B) The current cinematic Superman represents a different and darker interpretation. Thus, Supergirl isnt duplicating anything. Moreover, the embrace of Donner-esque traditionalism could be seen as a meta commentary on - and criticism of - the Snyderverse.2. Superman's world is too similar to Supergirl's world. Once again, this is a great time to follow @yvrshoots on twitter.![]()
Its possible that the lifting of the Superman embargo was a special/limited thing. Therefore: the two-part season premier is a one-time chance to showcase Supes and (perhaps) concoct a catchall pretext for his future absence.
But I rather doubt thered be flip-flopping on an embargo. It either exists or it doesnt - no half measures. Also, I kinda doubt that Berlanti & Co. would close the door on Supes (by, e.g., killing him off). Hypothetically, his appearance might be a big crowd-pleaser and ratings boon - which could/should inspire further guest appearances or (maybe) spinoff talk. But if hes just been killed off DOh!

I've thought about this as well, but I still believe a Superman show could be a distinctly different series than Supergirl. Supergirl is very much still the story of a young woman finding herself, while a Superman show could be about more of an adult with adult problems - he's married and settled down already with the whole world on his shoulders, looking to him for strength all the time. Tonally, it could be more mature - kind of like Angel was able to differentiate itself from Buffy, because instead of being centered around a teenage girl coming of age, it was focused on a 250-year-old vampire who had already seen and done a lot of ****. I'm not saying a Superman show would go as dark with that - lord knows we've gotten enough "dark Superman" in the movies, imo - but it just wouldn't be so "cutesy" with its tone because that tone's really more tailored to Kara's character. It could also focus more on the journalism side of things, Clark combating the darker sides of humanity with the power of the truth, etc. - that sort of thing. OR, it could also be a more "cosmic" show, since Superman has been shown to be the more global hero of the two right now, if they wanted to introduce the GL Corps and show Clark going "off-world" every now and then to deal with his more intergalactic enemies and allies, it could be quite interesting (and, admittedly, expensive). Either way, I could see a Superman show being a very different beast from Supergirl, despite their similar/shared worlds.2. Superman's world is too similar to Supergirl's world. In absolute terms, yes. Relative to their respective network averages, no.Did Supergirl do better in the ratings than Arrow last season?

I asked this in the other thread but no-one answered. If we have Clark now, that means at some point we also need Martha. Who would you cast in her role? Someone who has been in the Superman live action universe before? Obviously not Annette O'Toole, but who else could play her?
Teri Hatcher? Margot Kidder? Someone else?
I don't think they have a limited shelf life just a shorter one than Supergirl and Flash. Neither have the acclaim or ratings as the other two.

It would be good to use some sort of stunt casting like they've done with the Danvers. Although I cant agree that we need her, she may have passed away in this universe afterall the Kents are often not alive when he's Superman.
Let's try and keep the casting discussion in the casting discussion thread.....thank ya...
My thinking is, we don't need a Martha...not sure what that would add, considering Superman a guest, so to speak, not really necessary to bring in all the characters from his story.
