The Dark Knight Rises TDKR Trailer #3 debuting in The AVENGERS (May 4) - Part 1

TDKR trailers underplayed the action and mostly showed the drama and the heart. The Avengers trailers did the exact opposite.

Difference is, imo at least, that you can always expect action in a superhero movie. The question is, will it deliver on other fronts? That's where TDKR trailers win for me.
I get what it was trying to do and I certainly respect it but the way it was edited was distracting. I didn't agree with a lot of the cuts they made. The second half of the trailer is a lot better though, especially the score.

I was too busy fighting off my heart attack to care about technicalities.

The thing i loved most about the trailer is how the score slowly builds up. There is no audio, just silent images and the score. And it builds into this triumphant crescendo as the trailer goes on. Really good.

Still have some beefs about the visuals. Also the fight choreography again looks terrible from the few glimpses i've seen. But we'll soon see, not writing it off now.

One could argue the score of the 1st half made the 2nd half better.

I honestly cannot see how anyone fights the fight choreography terrible. The CW/Batman shot looks amazing and the Batman vs Bane shots are not continuous in order for one to judge that they're terrible moves. Plus, the camera is pulled back and its movement seems fluid.

Because the moves don't look like they'd hurt. It looks fake, staged. Although the kick/leg choke thing Catwoman does is cool.

The spinning punch Bane does, when seen in a gif, is laughable. You can clearly see he's about a foot away from making any contact with Batman.

I'm glad I'm not seeing TDKR in gifMAX, then. What kind of unfair criticism is this?

Also, how many times do I have to say this? Context. DoomsdayApex, a poster here who is savvy in martial arts has stated in the Fight thread that this spinning falcon punch thingie Bane does is real (not the spinning part, though, I think) and it causes damage. I won't even mention the exact previous shot where Bane ducks and elbows Batman, which looks painful as hell the way Bale plays it.

From the little pieces we can stick together, the fighting does look like it has improved. But yeah, that Bane spin doesn't do a lot for me, but could just be done to how the trailer is edited.

Literally everyone I showed it to thought the bane spin looked, (and i quote)..."sick", just more evidence that nitpickers are just that, nitpicking. With tons of action flicks using CGI and wire fu dancing, you'd just have to forgive a comic book character doing a spinning punch to pop the crowd once in a while.

But "everyone" is still the minority so you can't say one way or the other.

That Bane spin did look silly I must admit. It was only when someone posted it in a gif that I saw how bad it looked.

Of course THE AVENGERS appears to the lowest common denominator. Because it's fun, and because it's a great concept.

But, while it was a better written film, THE DARK KNIGHT was a film that ALSO appealed to the lowest common denominator. Because it was fun, and a great concept.

Someday, some "brilliant" director will figure out that there's a happy medium and make the best superhero movies ever.

I see nothing to suggest that the fighting has improved in TDKR, not that its been that bad anyway. Batman is using the same types of moves he's had for two movies. He's just doing it in a crowd full of people now.

The one thing to be said about the spin punch and Batman's completely telegraphed miss is that it shows how much energy Bane has in contrast to an obviously faltering and exhausted Bruce.

Those are faux sophisticated and not even true snob. People who work in the film industry and really think that The Artist is a great film and deserves awards are frauds. They should not work for the film industry. Seriously, it's not a surprise American cinema is so weak now with such superficial persons judging it.

It was a great film.

Criticising the fight choreography in a film about Batman isn't nit picking... Not when the fundamental flaws leap out at you.

The fighting has been bad, how is this deniable? The fight choreography in TDK is laughably bad. I don't want to post the video of the Hong Kong fight sequence again to prove my point.

Hopefully the fight choreography has improved. I really hope it has. And like i said, i'm not writing it off based on a few quick glimpses in a trailer.

I'm just saying, if were suddenly holding up TDKR to those kind of standards, then that renders a whole lot of other films to nothing more than dogcrap action wise. Just like how no one cared how shoddily edited the TDK chase was, still didn't stop it from being one of the best car chases ever. Sometimes you need to pull back a bit and just see things for what they are.

This.

The positivity was nice while it lasted on here, now we're back to the same old same old.

Same old same old, you mean blindly praising everything about these movies? I mean i even said i thought the trailer was great. But spoke of a couple of problems i had with it, gave reasons, yet i'm still being the bad guy? OK, i can live with that.

Now if the story-writing and storytelling was bad I might have been irritated by some flaws in the fighting but as it stands now I can deal with it. And some of the fighting in the films I actually like.

I love great fighting but it's not a top priority for me personally.

Please do because I don't remember that. And I'd like to see a fight sequence from another superhero film to see the difference.

Except that appears to be exactly what you are doing.

A lot of the fight choreography of TDK rises were pretty bad. But the thing is that isn't the strength of these movies. Do I want them to improve, sure. But it wouldn't kill it for me if it didn't.

He's not.

I won't post it because it isn't the thread for it, but look for it on youtube. Notice the guy who has a shotgun to Batmans head for a good few seconds, but stands there and waits for Batman to turn around and take it from him. Also notice how Lau falls over before Batman gets anywhere near him with his attack. Also none of Batmans attacks would feasibly put someone out of commission. Let's see Bats snapping some arms, knocking people out cold. Not just elbowing them in the shoulder or kicking them in the shins.

It's fundamentally poor fight choreography and stuntwork. It's so bad i'm genuinely surprised it made it out of the editing room.

I agree that the fight scenes need to be drastically improved. I'm tired of seeing Batman block a punch and then throw an elbow every damn time.
