The Dark Knight Rises The 80th TDKR General Discussion & Speculation Thread

Talk about a premature article.

Yup. I mean I don't really care what he feels about Nolan's Batman because that's his opinion and all that but of all the things he want to run with, he chose an argument that Nolan's Batman distance themselves from the comics? LOLWUT.

I know. Nolan's Batman films are the first live action versions of the character that actually catch the spirit of the comic books. The serials were too cheap to do so, The sixties show was pure camp, Burton's films were good but mixed with too many Burtonisms and WB interference. I won't even get into Schumacher. When I saw BB, I felt that all of the greatness that was in the printed page of the comics was finally distilled properly.

I guess Devin just doesn't understand Batman, or thinks that all comic book movies should have a "gee whiz" quality rather than darkness and psychological ambiguity.

I am making a pact with myself to never read anything Devin writes about TDKR because it'll only make me angry. :whatever:

I knew it was only a matter of time before this GIF was updated. :funny:

Is Nolan really ashamed of the genre?

I honestly think people have been reading the vibe of the final Rises trailer the wrong way (and the Dark Knight for that matter). There's a profound sense of hopefulness to that trailer that I think will be reflected in the final film. It's just that Nolan's going to take the audience through the nine circles of Hell before we get to the light....and we'll be better for it.

This online war against what the Dark Knight is, was, and what Nolan's being trying to say is wearing very, very, very, very thin now.

the article is terrible.

you could go down the line and just refute his ridiculous assertions. and batman not helping citizens? i distinctly remember the back and forth between batman and the kid in the narrows in begins (which carried more weight, by the way, then simply helping random people in the battlefield).

also the thing i hate the most about the article is its almost derisive take on "grey areas." nothing is black and white in the world. if you think otherwise, you are simply not thinking.

Lol at that GIF. How's Bane going to drink his shake? :funny:

Very good! I can't wait for SKYFALL either. Thanks for posting!
Yeah, it's shaping up very well. Looking forward to seeing the trailer go up on the site.

Actually, the 60's series and movie are unarguably the most accurate comic to film translation of Batman comics at the time. Some of the episodes were direct translations of comic issues. The 60's was pure camp, but so were the comics at the time.

I think everyone should just put the idiotic Devin article in the "stupid-s**t-to sort-out-later" bin like I've been doing with many of the utterly ridiculous "predictions" on The Avengers board. I'll just wait for TDKR to be released, do its thing and then laugh at these self-proclaimed oracles who started prematurely celebrating at half-time. Patience is a virtue that rewards itself, and come end of July, there won't be enough crow to go around for these guys.

I haven't seen too many ridiculous predictions on the Avengers board. Most people are saying things to the effect that they'll think it'll end up at #3 all time BO, which I think is a pretty safe bet. It could possibly break 500mill by next weekend.

This x1000!

Don't even get me started. I am not talking about their predictions about The Avengers - then go to town on that, it's their predictions about TDKR that are truly staggering. There are actually people there who think that The Avengers is going to snatch away IMAX screens from TDKR, after July no less - TDKR, a film that is shot in IMAX and has the full backing of the IMAX corporation. Then of course, there are all those idiots who say that TDK only made so much money because Heath Ledger died. On top of that, you've got half-wits like Devin and IGN trumpeting their horn about the death of dark and cynical superhero films (TDK and Watchmen - yeah, all two of them  ). It's very difficult to resist the temptation to pick apart their broken logic piece by piece, but then again, it's much more simpler and easier when you've got facts by your side...and I am a patient man. I have the utmost confidence that TDKR is going to blow the roof off, and when that happens, there will be nowhere to hide.
