I checked my Barnes & Noble yesterday and they still don't have it. The one they have on display was the one with Spiderman at the cover.

Like I said, it's one thing to make a mistake. It's another to start blowing the horn before the other side even has even had the opportunity to bat. If you're going to make premature conclusions and write long-winded articles about it, you deserve every bit of the rotten egg that falls on your face because of it.

Oh don't worry, on the interwebs, there will always be someone deserving of a healthy portion of crow. Heck, I remember when I used to frequent the Chamber of Secrets forums on Mugglenet.com (I'm also a huge Potter nerd). There was a huge outcry when it was revealed that Harry ended up with Ginny, since there were tons of Harry/Hermione shippers. This one poster wrote a HUGE article about how JKR was a horrible person because she supported forced abortions in China.

Yeah, seriously. Forced abortions in China.

Her logic was that since apparently the owner of WB supports lessening the global population, he must support forced abortions in China, and since JKR sold the HP movie rights to WB, that she must also support forced abortions in China.

And at the end of this giant article, she also added that JKR was a bad person for not having Harry and Hermione end up together. :woot:

Yeah. Honestly, I've seen some crazy stuff on here. But nothing that yet rivals the pure absurdity of that post.

Your Kiddin... o.o' same thing here at Booksamillion and Barns & Noble. I keep calling them just ask "Do you guys have the TDKR Total Film Meg. for sale yet and they keep saying "It depends on the new issue will be shipped to our store soon sir, just keep checking in the next week or so to see and will let you know." lol

I completely agree. I didn't care that BB didn't make more money then ROTS, I was just happy it was a great movie. TDK making as much as did was just icing on the cake, same with Avengers. I just want to see good films, because the more good Superhero films made, the better for us. A bad film hurts the genre, but lots of quality films getting made, like BB, Avengers, and TDK make it more likely more Superhero films will keep getting made for a while.

I'm with you. I support all CBMs. The more success these films receive, the more chances we'll see studios produce them for years to come. We're in the golden age for the genre. We should be relishing it while it lasts.

Yeah, at the end of the day, 2012 will go down as the greatest year for comic book movies, ever. I don't see this year being topped for the rest of our lives.

Batman
Spider-Man
Iron Man
The Incredible Hulk
Captain America
Thor
Ghost Rider

The fact that Batman and Spider-Man alone were in the same summer together is jaw-dropping enough.

Oh. Oh man. I was a pretty big Harry Potter fan myself, and... unfortunately... I'm ashamed to admit that I was part of that H/HR shipping. :(

I was even featured on their Harmonian Wall of Shame for suggesting a frickin' boycott of the COSForums... may still be there if they still have it up.

It's... not one of my good periods in life. I really don't have any defense for it, either...

But... that post about JKR and "forced abortions in China" was the start of my... erm... re-evaluation of participating in the whole thing. We "Harmonians" did a lot to deserve that crow, to be honest... myself included. Not all of us were like that, though... not even most of us. Believe it or not, it wasn't the end of the HP series that killed us... it was the people like the one who posted that.

Anyways... I still don't get the Avengers vs TDKR thing and I don't think I ever will. Why can't they both be awesome?

This thread is so getting me amped up right now.

I'm honestly delighted that Devin is drawing a line in the sand and making such definitive proclamations. He represents a growing amount of people with his viewpoint, and he's an articulate guy. Good for him.

The problem is how premature his article is. And if he's proven wrong, there's no wiggle room, absolutely none. All that's left to say is "I was wrong"...in a number of words. Because if TDKR tops Avengers, and manages to do so without 3D, then it's just going to speak volumes about how the audience is responding to it.

You can say all you want about TDK fans in summer '08, but premature celebration was not an issue there. There was 0 chance for any to eclipse its B.O. for the rest of 2008. It was unquestionably THE event film of that year with nothing to rival it. At this point, I just interpret articles like Devin's as a way of trying to suppress and ignore the possibility that TDKR could still very-well be the most talked about film of the summer even if it doesn't win the B.O. war.

Again though, since Devin's so articulate, it should be pretty entertaining to see how he can tip-toe his way around TDKR being a massive win-fest and him being dead wrong about what Nolan's Bat-films set out to accomplish.

I was always a full supporter of that pairing and still am even though it wasn't endgame.

Oh, I still think that's the way it should have went down, because I really do think she set it up a lot stronger (even if it was, apparently, by accident) than what she did go with (which, IMO, at least half of which wasn't set up at all, and the other half was just so... typical, cliche, and boring).

But I am embarrassed to have been part of a movement that's known more for "JKR supports forced abortions in China!", a boycott of Mugglenet, an attempt to rewrite book 6 to our liking, and stuff like that than for being honest fans of Harry Potter.

Sometimes I really do feel like I was the only one of the Harmonians who disliked books 6 and 7 for entirely non-shipping reasons... and I argued with them over it, too. Though, 7 was actually not bad... it was just the unneeded tour of England's camp grounds and that insufferable epilogue that really turned me off... Albus-Severus... I mean... really?

I'm more of a supporter of pairing myself with Hermione. :awesome:

But all this split-camp HP talk is taking me back to the pre-TDK days when the camps were divided over who should play the Joker. Bettany vs. Hulme all over the boards, 24/7. I was a bit of a fanatic, but never to the point of the whole JKR-supports-forced-abortions false logic.

Guys, this movie is going to be huuuuuuuge. Have no fear.

Avengers is having its time. I loved The Avengers, and it's earned it's B.O.

But trust me. We're exactly 2 months out from today. By the time June 20 rolls around, NO ONE will be talking about The Avengers, and EVERYONE will be talking about TDKR, because it will be 1 month away.

I genuinely mean this. Don't underestimate the power of Batman, ever.

Actually on June 20th, no one will be talking about The Dark Knight Rises at all.

They'll all be talking about my Birthday. :o

Excuse me, Hermione is mine... I used to be Hobgob11 until I realized I liked the Hype.

It's so annoying that I actually want TDKR to destroy the box office just to see how all these people will respond.

I agree, but at the same time we should have all seen this coming. The Dark Knight was a massive movie back in 2008, so much so that it is constantly being compared to every comic book film that has been released since.

So its not surprising that there is a backlash against the character and tone of the movie. Its a cycle, the same thing will happen to the avengers eventually.

To me, its great that comic book films are being made and being made well. It means that we may actually see some more dc characters on screen.

There is to much of "this film is better than that film".

I think next year will be perhaps the second biggest ever with the return of Superman and also Iron Man 3 and The Wolverine.

I love how that guy had to bash on TDK and Nolan to make his point. :whatever:

"They need you right now, but when they don't, they'll cast you out. Like a leper."

Is Nolan really ashamed of the genre?

http://badassdigest.com/2012/05/20/the-avengers-defeated-irony-and-cynicism/

I honestly think people have been reading the vibe of the final Rises trailer the wrong way (and the Dark Knight for that matter). There's a profound sense of hopefulness to that trailer that I think will be reflected in the final film. It's just that Nolan's going to take the audience through the nine circles of Hell before we get to the light....and we'll be better for it.

This online war against what the Dark Knight is, was, and what Nolan's being trying to say is wearing very, very, very, very thin now.

That was straight up one of the worst articles I have ever read, and reading the comment section was almost sadder seeing how many people agree. Blaaah.

Sheep. They're all sheep.

I actually liked Devin's article too. It's funny because Devin comes off as cynical so there's a lack of self-awareness there.

Anyway, I think some people are missing the point: Devin wasn't bashing TDK at all in the article, though he speculates that people want optimism out of their films now. But the hole in his article is that he doesn't understand Batman as a character either.

Wut.

I wonder if Bane will be something of a bogeyman in the beginning of the movie? We've got shots of him brazenly exposed in the stock exchange, plus the bike chase and the speech where he's ripping a pic of Dent before blowing Blackgate. I'd assume this happens before he blows the bridges into and out of Gotham, closes the tunnels etc.

Wasn't the Joker that way in the beginning of TDK? During the prologue they all talk about him like a myth, and even after he has the big reveal, the mob bosses all seem to have heard of him without actually encountering him or dealing with him.

Let the Marvel fans have their time in the sun. Avengers was a great movie and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

However the need to be reminded about some facts: Batman films have won the summer 4 out of 6 times. 4 out of 6 times Batman films have broken the OW record.

Their hatred of Batman is clouding the facts and won't stop TDKR from being a massive hit.
