I have a feeling that Batman's identity as Wayne will be exposed openly in this movie. Maybe not until the end, but somehow it will.

Welcome to my posts from last February. Of course I was laughed at when I suggested that...

And it'll start with Batman already dead, then follow up rewinding to the events that led up to it!

:woot:

Memendarknightception :shock

In all seriousness though, that would guarantee Best Picture for this film.

I have thought the identity reveal thing for a long, long time.

I read the info about the tweet, it says "3 hours+ long" - so it could be a bit longer than 3 hours? :wow:

This goes back muuuccch farther than that, yo.... ;)

Some were laughing at the movie taking place any longer than three years after TDK when I said it shoudl be longer...and now look....

:D

I thought IMAX was unable to go for 3 hours? I know the extended edition of AVATAR was shown in IMAX so I'm confused here but this is what I have heard. I really hope this 3 hour + thing is true, and it is definitely believable. So many characters being introduced and so many character arcs to cover in detail. Plus Bruce coming back after however long, getting thrown into prison, having to escape, come back to Gotham and fight a war. I mean that's not even all, how the hell could he cover that in 240 minutes without something feeling rushed? It's definitely believable to me it could be 3 hours long but Im confused over the IMAX aspect.

Well, not backwards like Memento....but starting with the now, and then flash back to reveal what led up to it. :)

The whole film isn't filmed in IMAX so maybe that's how they get away with it being 3 hours plus?

Intermission?

Well...max running time for IMAX is listed at 170 minutes, which is 2:50. So it could be 2:40+...which is almost 3 hrs.

Or it could be three...with IMAX screenings having an intermission. :D

I thought it could be 2 hours 40 minutes or something like that. But if it's 3 hours, wow.
I think it will probably be closer to that .
I dont think they will lead with a 3 hour version.
That is putting all their cards out on the table at once,
I dont see WB doing that .
The original Watchmen cut was about 2hours and 35 minutes .
and the Directors Cut was not a wide release and The Ultimate Cut was a DVD release and that was the longest.

Wasn't there a rumor about like switching the reel or something so that it could go longer than the IMAX time?

Whatever the run time is, Nolan isn't a believer in deleted scenes or director's cuts. What he presents will be him putting out his cards once and that's it.

Now that could make it totally possible. Man my hopes are way to high right now for this 3 hour+ rumor.

A maximum of 2:50 would be my guess right now .

Why? Just because the narrative structure is out of order? I'm all for non-linear narratives, but I don't see how that guarantees TDKR winning Best Picture.

This film already has a rating. The cut is locked so what was presented to that woman is what we will get aside from minor ADR touchups. If they cut anything else it must be resubmitted which I don't see them doing. If the tweet was correct and not hyperbole then we will see a 3 hour film come July 20.

And Nolan does no do directors cuts so Watchmen would be a poor example to use.

Live action Batman movies don't really come out all that often, so a long run time is very fine with me. If it's too much for the general public, so be it. This is a Batman event for the ages, a grand sendoff. Longer runtime equals more footage to chew on and more Zimmer music. I think if it's not 3 hours I agree with Mysteryman, it'll be 2.50 or something.

Ok, maybe "guarantee" was too strong a word but think about it: To begin the film in media res with Bruce's death and then recap the events leading to it would be a very ballsy move for a film. Nolan loves pushing the envelope, and something in TDKR is going to do that.

3 hour or so of TDKR?

But I would not think that if Nolan wanted it at three hours, he'd purposely cut it down just to fit into one single IMAX projection. If it needs an intermission, then so be it.

Switching a celluloid IMAX reel takes quite a while since the set-up stretches over a couple entire floors for one 'spool'...that's why there could be an intermission.

Definitely. If Nolan thinks it takes 3 hours to adequately address and fit everything in, he'll do it.
