Patty Jenkins was hired to direct Wonder Woman on April 15. Two months later, on June 23rd, Jon Watts is hired to direct Spider-Man. Here's Devin's article:

http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2015/06/23/tom-holland-is-spider-man-jon-watt-to-direct

The second reboot of Spider-Man in five years' time, with yet another white male director, and he's excited. No mention at all of Marvel dropping the ball in light of WB hiring a female director for a major superhero tentpole.

But now, WB hires an untested white male director for The Flash, shortly after reports come out that Marvel may be hiring its first non-white director in eight years, and it's a subject of "intense scrutiny."

It bears repeating. Marvel Studios has been making films since 2008. We are in year seven. They have made twelve films. All directed by white men. Of the ten remaining Phase Three films, six of them have directors officially attached. All of them white men.

WB makes Man of Steel with Snyder. They bring him back for Batman v Superman, because he's been chosen to be the "architect" of the DCU and they wanted him to lay the groundwork for what's to come. Then they bring in David Ayer for Suicide Squad, and he goes on to assemble one of the most racially diverse casts ever seen in a superhero movie. Then, two years and three films into their plan, they hire Michelle MacLaren for Wonder Woman. And when things didn't work out with her, they selected another woman to replace her. They remained committed to that film having a female filmmaker - a point empathize by Deb Snyder not too long ago. Then James Wan, a filmmaker with Chinese heritage, is hired to direct Aquaman.

But WB is the one on blast here? Seriously? I mean Christ. Did Devin even criticize Marvel for taking this long to accomplish this? Or did he already have his pants dropped to the floor by the start of the first sentence?

That's my issue with Devin's article.

I agree with the main issue. Hollywood is in dire need of diversity amongst its filmmakers. Devin could have made this point just fine in the article (and many other articles beside it). But he just couldn't help himself by working in a shout-out to Marvel in there, as if them hiring a non-white director after so many years and so many films completely trumps everything WB has done for the sake of diversity in less than half the time and half the films.

WB/DC will always be criticized for everything, whether it has to do with production, castings or elements of plot in their films, while Marvel will always get a free pass for those same things. It's unfair, but that's how it is, and it is something I've learned to accept. I am not sure why is that the case exactly... I can only assume that when it comes to this, it does matter who "came first".

Anyway, being constantly under fire might even turn out to be a good thing in the end, as it might make WB/DC more cautious when it comes to certain things they wouldn't consider otherwise. They can't just sit back, relax and say "well it worked for Marvel, why should we bother?". I am not saying that this would necessarily be their approach, but sometimes it is a good thing to have a tough audience, as it makes you work harder in the end.

I remember reading criticism of MOS, as it failed "Bechdel Test", but the writer conveniently ignored that Marvel movies (like IM 3) too failed at the same test, oh well.

Yeah, there are definitely some double standards going on, but there's nothing we can do about it, other than accept that's how the things are and move on.

We should, however, remain capable of differentiating bull**** articles like the one posted above from valid criticism.
If Jenkins and Wan weren't hired to direct their respective movies (so soon into the DCEU, at that), it would fall into the latter category, but given that author blatantly ignores these facts and doesn't bring up the same issue when it comes to certain company which is, at this point, much more at fault regarding the issue in question, then yeah, it is definitely the former and should be recognized as such.

Well alot of people have been assuming that for a while now.

I wouldn't mind something like this KF as far as an "armored" look goes...

Slightly related, the trailer for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, based on Seth Grahamw-Smith's novel, is out

I am hoping Snyder can help Smith choose a really kick ass and experienced crew to help him out with this. A first time director and it's an effects heavy franchise super hero movie? This is one of the few DCEU choices that give me pause... That said, he seems to be in the orbit of the Lego guys so, maybe they recommended him?

WB probably likes the Lego Batman script and yes maybe Lord and Miller did have good words to say on his behalf. It's still a very...weird choice. And yes I know Patty Jenkins has only directed one small film and t.v shows but Hollywood treats female directors like crap so that's not shocking that her filmography is so light.

I expected Doug Liman, who directed "Edge of Tomorrow" for WB, maybe for GL.

Flash will have tech based armor suit "inspired by injustice look"

I know I am late to this but here are my thoughts about this "scoop"; anyone who was at the DC comic con panel (like me) who saw the concept art they showed could tell you that the flash concept art showed him in an armor suit. Obviously, things could change and they could end up drastically changing the suit from the one they showed and the one from his actual film appearance, but based of the concept art, he had armor. His suit had shoulder pads and segmented armor plates on his chest, while I can see why people compare to the injustice one, I probably have in the past as well, really the only thing that was similar between the injustice costume and the flash costume art is the fact that they were both armor. The Flash costume in the concept art was pretty sleek and didn't seem bulking like the injustice one.

That is why I feel this "scoop" is laughable because it is info that is already known, multiple sites and people who were there have reported the same. It is like me making an article saying: "Exclusive: Green Lantern film to be called Green Lantern Corps". We know this already.

Thanks for setting the record straight.

So, would you say that the material is different from the "Injustice" suit where he wears what looks like ceramic or even steel plates? A bit more flexible perhaps, closer to Batman's TDK suit than Flash's Injustice one?

Yeah, I guess you could say that. I originally compared it to the dark knight suit somewhat for that reason and also because the armor plates were segmented in a similar manner.

Yeah, I remembered that you did so afterward.

Appreciate the info.

So now people are spreading rumors that Flash won't have speed force powers because of the "tech based suit" comments. They are saying this means his speed powers come from the costume.

Why do we must endure this?

I've never seen any other film suffer such nonsensical crap as these DCEU films.

Though as far as crazy theories go, I stumbled upon one about new "Star Wars", something about Luke Skywalker being Kylo Ren. Now, I don't follow (or much like) "Star Wars", but I thought this was crazy as hell given that we've seen Adam Driver in the role. So I guess crazy theories like this are not DCEU exclusive after all.

Sure, a lot of movies with characters that already have fanbases are going to suffer from this... but in DCEU's case, it's mainly pessimistic rumors.

Like this one about Flash, it's being used to say they are going to ignore the basic premise of the character and ruin things. I also saw some people saying this Barry would be gay.

Some people suspected that Superman's costume gave him the power of flight in Man of Steel...so yeah, people like to make up crap.

It's beyond making up crap... It's the assumptions and jumping to conclusions that then get spread like influenza. People take one thing out of context or don't fully understand something's actual, and often, spelled out reasoning and they just decide to write off the DCEU. It's all kinds of stupid, and what's the worse part, yet par for the course these past few years, it's also the professionals and not just the fans that take this pastime up. Just look at the recent EW editorial that commented on Goyer's recent interview on The Nerdist, or just about ANY video by Grace Randolph. These types with a veneer of "legitimacy" are unfortunately not any better in than their counterparts on the Hype.

What can I say, you are correct. The fan/entertainment press has turned into a bunch of whiny reactionary petty asshat no nothing fangirls/fanboys.

I'm cool if some people aren't excited for the DCEU and I'm even cool if these so-called entertainment journalists aren't but the amount of bias and, I suspect from some corners, purposeful misinformation campaign against the DC films is wrong and creepy. How am I to expect fair reviews from these people? I get if the productions were nightmarish or something but they weren't so the amount of premature hate for these films is bizarre.

Geoff johns tweets about having dinner with the new Flash Director, Clearly he's taking a stronger role in guiding each director in the DCEU with DC comics lore which is awesome.
