The Amazing Spider-Man The Amazing Spider-Man: Box Office Thread - Part 2

I still have a hard time thinking that anyone truly believes movie studios are only getting 15% overseas. The masters of accounting are willingly letting go the majority of their money? No.

Here is an explanation for why getting money from foreign releases are tougher:

The reason for this is simple. Collecting revenues abroad is a trickier proposition since the dollar fluctuates against foreign currencies. There are also tariffs from these governments in place in order to keep as much money as possible from leaving their countries and going abroad, which is an understandable practice. While the global conglomerates such as Fox, Disney and Time-Warner that run major Hollywood studios can secure sweetheart deals with various local governments, it doesn't happen for each film. As such, international box office revenue is much less reliable than in North America.

While i'm sure the 15% figure fluctuates, i've however hunched for a while that domestic profits do count for a good deal more. You will notice films that do well domestically but no so much overseas still tend to get sequels sometimes big ones.

The star trek reboot is a good example. It made only 127m overseas but it's still getting a probably near 200m budget sequel due to it being seen as a great success.

On the other hand films that flop domestically but do well overseas rarely get sequels unless they have made an insane amount of money overseas.

So again using star trek as an example if it has instead made 127m domestically and 257m overseas it would likely be seen as a failure.

I'm convinced that you all don't know what the hell you're talking about, when it comes to what the studio collects overseas. This is what happens when you worry about other people's money.

You do know this a box office thread? i.e discussing other people's money.

Well, I will soon put an end to that. This post shall be our last.

So anyways...

I wonder how TASM2 will perform at the box office. By the time it comes out in 2 years, ticket prices will probably increase again.

SSM (imho) is better, Spidey is funnier, the supporting cast is better, villians have better motivations. The 90's cartoon looks better but that's about it.

I don't even think it looks better to be honest. At the very least the animation is a lot better in SSM, even if you don't care for the art style used for the characters.

I love the 90s look of the animated series. It had some animation that didn't work, but overall I prefer it.

I think it will do better, especially if people that missed out on theaters pick up the Blu-Ray for this movie out of curiosity. Hopefully they will end up really liking it and will be ready to fully embrace a sequel.

Of course not, but none of these three CBMs are anywhere near Spider-Man 3 or the Transformers films. All are in the good or great category, but TDKR and Avengers are still "beating" TAS-M financially and critically.
Didnt everybody expect it to?
I mean TDKR is the 3rd movie of its franchise and TA is the 6th so that so expected wasnt it?

X-Men was good, X2 was great, X3 destroyed the trilogy.

Spider-Man was good, Spider-Man 2 was great, Spider-Man 3 destroyed the trilogy.

Batman was great, Batman Returns was pretty damn good, Batman Forever destroyed the trilogy.

Superman was phenomenal, Superman II was amazing, Superman III destroyed the trilogy.

Blade was great, Blade II was great, Blade: Trinity destroyed the trilogy.

Not superstitious at all.
So that means its a harder job to make a good second movie than a good third movie??
No imo the second movie is hardest to make into a good, its the make and break of the series

I believe the sequel will be pretty big again...

- The success of TASM on DVD/Blu-ray will pique interest.
- People will have now gotten used to this Spider-man's look (and Andrew Garfield himself) from this films marketing.
-Hopefully it will have a better release date and not be positioned between to of the most anticipated movies of the year.
- No origin... meaning more people willing to check out an original story.
- Maybe put in Green Goblin (Spidey's biggest villian... similar to The Joker).

For a reboot that was testing the waters, this is doing pretty well... but I do think the sequel will tell the tale.

Worldwide:

$677,740,000

Good, but there are not Spiderman screeings anymore, guess the movie will stay like 680,000,000 ish?

i wanted to see it for the 3rd time but guess i´ll have to wait for the Bluray :(

So instead of making a fuss when I already mentioned that TDKR and Avengers are doing better critically and financially you could've just agreed since you are now.

Seeing as how there are so many great sequels and only one third movie, I would say this is wrong. It's much harder to make a great third film and Nolan has finally broken out of the regular mold of making dissatisfying third acts for CBMs.

It's harder to make a third part, but once you make it good, it also has the attraction of the final movie, usually in these cases automatically making it better. Which makes me wonder why some are whining about TDKR, I thought it was perfect! Yeah it's pretty long, but with the last part I'd rather have a long full blown spectacle rather than an easily swallowable 2 hour flick

Not to reply directly towards you, but just using your post to quote.

TDKR - $733,038,000.

Now....who said TAS-M will end up doing better than TDKR? Lol. C'mon, show yourselves...you tried to stand out so well beforehand.

An end of trilogy movie is beating a reboot...yay.

Of course it's predictable, but it's hilarious as no one is saying TAS-M will be beating TDKR now.

Don't try to justify a poster when their biased opinions make them only ignoramus.

Not many people said ASM would beat TDKR worldwide.

Overseas is another story.

Domesic: $250,640,000(Weekend Estimate). TASM this weekend or the next will outgross Star Treck and will be the most succesful reboot domestically.

Foreign: $427,100,000 TASM has outgrossed the totals of Spider-man Spider-Man 2 and there is one more big market for the friendly webhead that has left to swing.

Of course overseas is another story. Batman isn't that well off as Spider-Man is when it comes to overseas numbers. But domestically, I don't know why anyone would think TAS-M was going to beat TDKR.

It needs about...$8 million or so. TAS-M should definitely get that amount by next weekend. The only reason it couldn't is if TAS-M gets even less screenings this week.

It's mind-boggling that Spider-Man 3 made $554 million. Sometimes I understand the numbers when the movie is amazing, but other times I just wonder what the hell is happening when S-M 3 and the Transformers films made so much damn money.

I went to see TASM again today in NYC, and the theater was pretty full. The Spider-Man reboot is doing well even after a month since its release.

Good to know here in Mexico.....the movie just have late screenings

Transformers 3 made over a billion even though everyone I met HATED the second one... I am disgusted with the human race sometimes.

Also, I never doubted that the dark knight rises would beat spiderman (even though I thought tdkr was extremely underwhelming). It was able to almost make up its budget in a week and took spiderman a while to do so (even with foreign costs). My issue is ice age 4 doing waaaaayyyyy more than it should.... Really? Over 700 million?

is spidey going to hit 700mill ww thats the question. maybe but not doing 750 to 800 as predicted

SM3 made so much money initially because all the Venom fans came out indroves to see their anti-hero on the big screen... WOM made the numebrs frop soon thereafter...
