I really want to hear from the geeks like us. Not the snobby critics.

I'm the opposite. Unless they really hate superheroes, I want to hear what an unbiased critic has to say about it. There definitely seems to be a lot of common threads with the complaints.

I find it pathetic that Marvel (Feige) seems to want to ruin as much of the film experience as possible before this film is released. But hey, as long as they can squeeze an extra 5 million out of opening weekend it's all good. Time for more commercials, clips, featurettes, stills, etc. I'd wager we'll have seen 20 + minutes of the film before it's released. I've been a big supporter of Feige , and Marvel/Disney are usually wizards when it comes to this stuff, but they've really screwed the pooch the last couple of weeks IMO. Maybe this is the norm and I'm only noticing it here, but I don't think so. Joss seems to have (from what I've seen) created more magic with this film, so it's too bad it's being diluted by the day. Next week probably by the hour. Two more weeks of fun under the sun.

I haven't been deeply involved in the hype surrounding any of the Marvel movies except Thor 2, and now AoU, so I can't really speak for how they handled the release of previous films.

the thing is, most average joes aren't seeing all the images and clips they're putting out. it's only bigger fans who have seen everything. the more Marvel puts out the more chance of it reaching more new paying customers.

so cool your jets, man. if you're adverse to seeing the clips, just avoid them.

None of this is really anything new, and us online nerds are the only ones receiving the full dosage. If you're overburdened with spoilers and info about the film, avoiding fansites like this is your only recourse.

Just because they release a clip online doesn't mean you have to press play. Why blame Marvel/Disney for your lack of self-control?

No one is making anyone watch or look at any of the clips, tv spots, featuretttes, stills, articles or anything. I haven't watched anything of the clips etc and if I stumble across one that starts to play I turn the channel, look away or close the tab. The overwhelming majority of the audience will only see a fraction of this material. They aren't out there looking for the material, the material has to be brought to them and that's what Disney is doing. The movie opens overseas in 5 days. This is a tent pole film that cost $300m to make. Of course they want all the audience and box office they can get.

Watching the clips and spots and featurettes and such might ruin it for some people, and I get that, but it doesn't really do much for me. When you walk in that theater and see the movie as a whole, you realize those clips and featurettes and tv spots didn't do to much for you.

It didn't ruin the experience for me, cause there's so much we have yet to see.

Some of you care way too much about reviews.

Im just curious. Its part of the fun of the pre-release hopla. Makes the wait easier. Dont really care about them one way or the other. Im sure many other are like that. :)

Uh. Feige is not in charge of the marketing. Neither is Whedon. Thats all Disney.

I'm leaving Joss out of this, he's the victim.

Dunno man, seems to me Feige would definitely have a BIG INFLUENCE in marketing, he runs the studio that produced the film. He's certainly not going to turn his back while Disney just puts out whatever they want, like potential plot spoilers for example...I'm sure he's gotta sign off on certain things. My guess is he new this onslaught was coming and was ok it....Disappointing. Feige seems to have a big stiffy for the Russos, perhaps he'll alow Civil War more room to breathe. Perhaps he and Disney will give more respect to artistic integrity and to the fans all the hard work was intended for by not showing 20 minutes of the film before it hit's theaters..... what do you think?

So this is what I'm thinking. We are all going to enjoy the film. Period. That's what everyone has been saying. However, I think the problem here is that we all wanted this to be the greatest film of all time. This is why you'll get some people that are going to be disappointed. Naturally, because of the novelty of the first film and the fact that it was really good, we were already hyping A:AOU up to an absurd level. I remember for Avengers 1, I didn't care so much about it being the best CBM ever, I just wanted it to be good. And it was. I enjoyed the hell out of it and that is the point of these Avengers movies, to be these insanely fun popcorn flicks. Also, because the novelty and fun of all these heroes coming together for the first time has worn off, it's probably not as exciting as the first time. I bet if A:AOU was the first movie and the Avengers against Loki and the Chitauri army was the second movie, the reactions would be the same. I think we also have to sort of adjust what we want out of this movie. When it comes down to it, this is a movie about heroes fighting a robot...not something you can really go deep with. Yeah I know some of you are worried that there were reactions that said they were "disappointed" or "not as good as the first"...guys, guys this does NOT mean it's bad. The only person that said it was bad was some fake twitter account. Do not worry. Go see it opening night, manage your expectations, have a great time watching superheroes destroy some robots.

I'll ask again... why are you blaming Marvel/Disney for your lack of self-control? No one is FORCING you to watch these clips.

This critic enjoys films like they're bags full of tricks. These reviews from jornalists are so idiotic because they generally criticize the film for being too mainstream. In most cases, they just find excuses for not liking the movie: the action scenes are too much, love relationship is not believable, etc.

To me, judging a movie entails looking at his cohesion, in terms of internal sctrutural, and if it succeeds in conveying ideas. Just that. The style of the movie, though it is important, it's not what makes a good movie.

Yeah also these film critics have different tastes for sure. Jeff Sneider said, "I prefer human characters like Kingpin than robots." I'm sure comic book fans will love this film!

The average person doesn't hunt down every TV spot and trailer. I think it's only internet genre film fan obsessives who do that. My other friends who watch these kinds of films regularly only watch trailers that they come across (eg through facebook links from other friends), they don't go looking for them. I mean they love the same superhero/sci-fi/fantasy films but they just aren't as obsessed by them (as I am lol).

This is about all of us who are being robbed of film experiences through gratuitous advertising. I'm not just thinking of myself but all the fans who deserve to see and experience as much of the film as possible, the way Joss intended it as he was laboring to pull this thing together. I haven't watched all the clips, but some of my buds have, so I hear about it 'cause they think I'm like them and have the self-control of an infant. I read it from people I follow (now un-follow)on Twitter who post these clip descriptions assuming everyone has watched like them. I see a piece in Esquire a week ago lamenting the fact that 14 minutes of the film have already been shown and it angers me because it's all so fuc-ing unnecessary. Everyone was pretty much going to see it anyway, so it's all just a cynical money grab and people are just mathematical units to be squeezed to the last drop...None of this is new of course, I just don't recall a more blatant or crass intent on display. And two weeks to go! How much of the film do you think will be shown before release...I've got it at over twenty minutes. Perhaps you don't care?

You are probably right. I'm partly pissed because I've been unintentionally spoiled and I just think it's a cynical outlook to have towards the fans. I wonder how Joss feels about it? Perhaps he's just resigned to the fact, but damn, show some respect for the man's work, you'll get your money, just don't needlessly rob people of a film experience to get it.

All movies release a ton of footage to garner as many viewers as possible. Your whole rant over 3-4 posts is just plain wrong and misguided. It's not Disney's responsibility to limit the consumer's amount of footage/advertising they view; it's up to each individual to decide how much they're willing to consume before actually watching a film. Like many have said, it's not like Disney/Feige/Whedon are holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to watch.

I think I heard the "too much footage released" argument for every major movie since at least X-Men 3

I can see where you're coming from as everyone has a different sensitivity to being spoiled and people who are into this stuff as much as us have hardly any control in not viewing everything that's out there. But the motivation of the marketing is to raise awareness to the max and get as many new people interested at the same time. For some fans it would be a better experience if they showed hardly anything but the reason for the blitz is not to F things up for them (that's just an unintended consequence). The suits have to take care of the business side of things, and that side doing so well is the reason we are getting so much good stuff nowadays.

Misguided? No, I don't think so. The question is how much is too much? Is there a line? I think there is and they've crossed it, you clearly don't, so it's individual. Is it not Disney's responsibility to preserve the integrity of their property or the artists work? Advertising is necessessary to a point, but do you really think all these ads, clips, featurettes are making a significant difference at this point? People were predicting a 210 million + opening MONTHS ago, so not much will have changed upon release, other then things that would have been a joy/surprise/funny moment/wonderous revelation were released in an onslaught of clips. I know, nobody has a gun to my head....

Yeah, I can't get behind the complaint that the marketing is overboard. I stopped watching anything after the last couple of weeks. The release of material is the same with any major tentpole.

If you want to avoid being spoiled, don't watch anymore videos. We should be used to the marketing blitz for these movies by now.

And why would anyone blame Feige for the marketing? Aren't these pushed out by Disney?

See the film and judge it for yourselves.

I get that everybody wants their opinion to be "validated" by sharing it with a perceived majority, but what really matters at the end of the day? Having a movie with a 90+ rating on RottenTomatoes and the highest grossing box office of all time, or a movie that you enjoy and want to have on a bookshelf and watch over and over again until the disc crumbles to powder? I stopped reading reviews prior to film releases for the last couple of years and I've been enjoying myself that much more because of it.

Also, complaining about footage is pointless given that no one is forcing you to watch it. Exercise some patience and self control and it is entirely a non-factor.
