It is odd, I can't seem to find a solid consensus of the film as well. On a positive side though, on Twitter two of the big film bloggers said this:

I think there were 2. They aren't really saying he's weak, just doesn't pay off in the end/long run or something? Gonna check. But also seen 2 other people who've seen the film say he was good, just didn't live up to the hype.

I personally haven't seen anything other than praise for Ultron. Not OTT praise or anything - no one's saying he's Joker-level amazing - but he certainly seems to be one of the more well-received villains of the MCU from the reactions so far. Not that that's saying much, lol.

Calm down people. Almost all reactions so far are saying he's great. Someone pointed out that he's definitely no Malekith or Ronan, if that helps.

So far he looks to be James Spader as a b*tchy robot, so he's at least very awesome by default; we'll see about super awesome once the movie releases.

EDIT: Oh your avatar, no, no no. I'm debating a dude on twitter about a clever tweet I saw about Zack Snyder and weather forcasts. He doesn't think Robots should joke and likes the BvS trailer. I think the weather forcast bit was funny and was left feeling "meh" by the trailer. Opposites really attract on twitter, more then anywhere.

It would be a shame if Ultron was anything other than a revelation, because (apart from his name being on the title) I thought this was the best chance for the MCU to fix one of the few things they have constantly failed at, to create a memorable and compelling villain, which is definitely one of the main cornerstones of a cbm.

EDIT: Before anyone interjects, I meant in movies, Wilson Fisk and his amazingness doesn't count.

I'm going to make up my own mind of course but I always find reviews interesting which is why I'm asking about them. So Tuesday it is.

I'm going to see it May 2nd but I'm interested to see what the Hypers in other parts of the world think.

Probably not. It's the world we live in today. Studios release twenty + minutes of footage before the fim is even released yet people move on anyway, to Star Wars.

He could be better than them yet still fit into their category of bad villains. Just as everyone else I've been hoping Spader will deliver - maybe he will, maybe he won't. At the moment I simply hope he isn't Malekith or Ronan-bad. Will that make Ultron good? No. But tbh, I'd be fine with just being able to say he was better or not as bad as both of those guys.
