Wait a sec... so because she's hot, race doesn't matter anymore? :o

Well, now I guess is ok to cast a black or latino Wally then, no more debate! ;)

Interesting But she seems a bit mature looking for Barry

I think I would have preferred her as Waller

I would have preferred a stout woman as Waller. I don't understand why we can't get that in live-action.

Kreisberg and Johns with Carlos Valdes:

Geoff is awesome! (clap clap, clap clap clap)

It's because they airbrushed and photoshopped that picture to make her look more Caucasian. That's how the industry works sadly.

This is how she really looks like. She's 100% Black. I hope the network doesn't give her a Katie Cassidy makeover.

Those eyes and that smile....a man could get lost.

Man I know somebody taught you better than this. Black people come in all shades it's not the other way around.

Redd Foxx once did a poem about the "shades" of black skin. I wish I could remember it, because it was hilarious. He also said "White people are just white...until they do something wrong. Then you'll hear the police say things like 'Suspect is a white male, ruddy complexion.":woot:

I never said I was cool with the race changes (I still think it's stupid) just that it's great the part is cast and she's pretty.

Exactly.

I never said she wasn't black, just that she didn't look all black in that particular pic of her - she looked mixed or something.

I know they do, never said or implied they didn't, but she looked mixed in that picture and not entirely black, looked more Latino than anything in it.

Pam Grier is a little heftier now than she used to be, so we kind of got that on Smallville.

Yes, somewhat. I must be getting old too, because I'm more attracted to older, heavier Pam than 70s Pam.

Good find. That's exactly the bit about which I was thinking. I used to have quite a selection of RF cassette tapes that got me through many long road trips.

Let's also not forget that one of Barry Allen's descendants is a member of the Legion of Superheroes.

Wouldn't mind if they added some red to her hair.

"She's Diet black. Just one calorie, not black enough." -- Kevin Smith, when he learned of this casting info.

:hehe:

:funny:

No there's not. Get over yourself. She could pass as mixed or something in that pic.

No, I don't need to get over myself.

I've seen your comments on just the notion of the West family being Black, so I already know how you feel about all this. I've also seen your comments about another actress someone had suggested. Essentially, it comes off as "She's not that dark, so she doesn't look that Black" type of thing and there's a lot of things wrong with that. All I can do is shake my head and laugh.

Diversity in casting is a good thing. I do not care what the color of Iris' (and the West family) skin is. If the show is entertaining and well executed, she (they) could be black, Asian, white...

No, I don't need to get over myself.

Lol. Yeah you do. How's the air up there on Olympus?

I've seen your comments on just the notion of the West family being Black, so I already know how you feel about all this.

Oh good, so you know I think unnecessary race changes are stupid.

It was like they'd find the lightest skinned black actresses they could find....like they wouldn't want her to look TOO black, and all I could do is shake my head and laugh at that. And incidentally some of the actresses people have posted for "black" Iris West don't look black at all and look more Latino than anything (the real "whitewashed" Hollywood?). There's nothing wrong with my very correct observations of that, but there is a LOT wrong with a pompous poster telling me there is as though I've committed a crime. Blow off, dude.

Everyone's always looking to call someone a "racist" in this thread when no one is here. I'm getting a little sick of it.

Diversity is a good thing but there are ways to successfully incorporate it into things without changing the main characters - Batman:TAS is a good example of this with Renee Montoya for instance.

For the "best person for the part", "regardless of race" advocates, they weren't even looking for that with this show, they were casting for blacks exclusively with it because they wanted a black actress because they'd made the creative decision to make her black on the show. All fine and cool but don't kid yourselves that race wasn't a big deal to them.

The air's great up here. Is that the type of response you were looking for?

There's nothing really wrong with changing the race of a character when their race isn't part of reason they exist, which is pretty much the case for most White characters since they're the default.

Or the poster just found a picture of Black actress they happened to like who fit the experience/price range the show is likely going for. Nothing about how light or dark she may be. I don't know which Black people you've encountered, but as others have noted, they don't all look alike. And we can also take into consideration the race of their parents, grandparents, and so on. Same with any other group of people of a different race.

So, when you say comments that give the idea that someone isn't Black enough or whatever, it doesn't come of very well. Just adds to the general message that White or lighter skin is somehow better that society has often given.

I'm not calling you racist. Just that your statement was really wrong or insensitive, if that's a better word to use.

Everyone's always looking to call someone a "racist" in this thread when no one is here. I'm getting a little sick of it.

It's not racist to think lighter skinned black people are less black, or 'ambiguous' as you called it earlier, but it is ignorant, insensitive and incorrect. Black people who "look like Latino" are every bit as black as the "what about the black skins" character you gave me a pic of. They're all equally black. Not getting that doesn't make you a 'bad person' or whatever, but refusing to acknowledge it, or at least that the people you're talking about may not see it that way makes you offensively stubborn.

EDIT: I know believing someone thinks you're racist makes you sick, but the idea of "less black" makes me want to bang my head against the wall.

SOOO, The Flash! Now that we have the cast, when do you guys suspect we'll see the suit?

Uhhhh.... okay then...

Apparently the Pied Piper is going to be in the Flash show! Not surprised but that sounds awesome.

I hope we get Gorilla Grodd, Mirror Master, the Shade, Copperhead, Captain Cold, Captain Boomerang, Weather Wizard, Murmur, Heat Wave, and The Top... i know I'm missing some...

We have soooo many great villains to choose from with Flash. He has one of the best rogues galleries.

I still really like the idea of Gorilla Grodd being a gorilla that is only heard when he speaks to people telepathically or speaking through people after he's controlled them. That'd be easy to do on a tv budget. A gorilla with a high tech looking helmet is easy on a tv budget.

The main villains of the entire series should be Reverse Flash, Gorilla Grodd, Cold and Mirror Master

If they are gonna use Grodd I don't want him to be an actual Ape. I rather they go super Saiyan and just be aliens that are ape like.

It was at least an honest one from you.

There's nothing really wrong with changing the race of a character when their race isn't part of reason they exist, which is pretty much the case for most White characters since they're the default.

I bet you're loving the direction the new Fantastic Four is taking (Doom may be a woman! Edgy!).

Or the poster just found a picture of Black actress they happened to like who fit the experience/price range the show is likely going for.

The actresses they suggested, the images of them at least, could have easily passed as Latino.

Nothing about how light or dark she may be. I don't know which Black people you've encountered, but as others have noted, they don't all look alike.

I'm aware of that and never said they did. Why don't you and Dr Condescending get a room?

So, when you say comments that give the idea that someone isn't Black enough or whatever, it doesn't come of very well.

Mixed and Latino don't look very black to me. I wouldn't cast either as Black Panther or suggest people who looked in any way ambiguous for the part.

Just adds to the general message that White or lighter skin is somehow better that society has often given.

So pretty much that I think white people are better than black people, which is calling me a racist.

duh-duh-duh-o.gif

Also, wouldn't only finding pictures of the lightest skinned mixed/black people support that "general message" that white or light skinned people are somehow better than black people like you're saying? You should be telling that to them.

I'm not calling you racist. Just that your statement was really wrong or insensitive, if that's a better word to use.

You accused me of purporting the idea that whites are better than blacks....which is saying I am racist, or trying to.

Wonder if we will see some costumes...

No Grodd please.

Let's just deal with the Rogues and Zoom for now and leave Grodd for somewhere down the line or for the movies (should they ever become a reality...)

The girl cast as Iris is pretty. If she impresses me as much as Gustin did as Barry, I'll let the race thing go (just like I let the blonde hair thing go).
