If they are gonna use Grodd I don't want him to be an actual Ape. I rather they go super Saiyan and just be aliens that are ape like.

I respectfully have to express my dislike for this idea. I say if they're going to do that, just make him a completely new character. Grodd has to be a gorilla with telepathic abilities. Otherwise, it's not Grodd.

Planet of the Apes has proven that the character can be taken seriously.

No Grodd please.

Let's just deal with the Rogues and Zoom for now and leave Grodd for somewhere down the line or for the movies (should they ever become a reality...)

The girl cast as Iris is pretty. If she impresses me as much as Gustin did as Barry, I'll let the race thing go (just like I let the blonde hair thing go).

Really? Grodd is one of Flash's best villains, i dunno why someone wouldn't want Grodd to be part of a Flash show, that sounds so awesome to me. Flash has 4 truly great and iconic villains. They are Reverse Flash, Grodd, Cold and Mirror Master. tv is the perfect medium to introduce multiple villains, I'll feel robbed if we don't get all four of those

The show shouldn't hold back on anything. Not doing Grodd would be a mistake.

That's what im saying. If they do that, they're severely limiting themselves, there are very few Flash villains that are better than Grodd

It's not the same pota is a franchise on to its own. I don't know how a talking gorilla is going to be taken seriously. Literally they are the only franchise to ever do that with any success in any live action format.

Exactly.

And it was a success nonetheless. Therefore, it can be done.

I don't see any indication that it wouldn't work. Plus, how many times have people said "This cannot work in live-action" regarding superheroes and it did? We are way past that point now, especially after The Avengers. You can make the vast majority of things from the comics work.

I'd love to sew Grodd. Bring it on.

Worked in Planet of the Apes....just say they're from a different/hidden dimension. Works for me.

Exactly.

Yes. That would take some vision though.

Grodd.. will probably be like Davis Bloome and Nicolas Hoult's Beast.

A human who devolves into a ape-like monster. Thats the only way it can be done on a tv budget.

The problem with Grodd isn't that he's too goofy. They've already said that the Flash show will embrace a lot of the more "out there" elements of the DCU. The problem with Grodd quite simply is budgetary. It'd be quite expensive to do the effects on him and make them look decent. Avengers had a $200+ million budget, this show has a TINY fraction of that.

It was at least an honest one from you.

I bet you're loving the direction the new Fantastic Four is taking (Doom may be a woman! Edgy!).

The actresses they suggested, the images of them at least, could have easily passed as Latino.

I'm aware of that and never said they did. Why don't you and Dr Condescending get a room?

Mixed and Latino don't look very black to me. I wouldn't cast either as Black Panther or suggest people who looked in any way ambiguous for the part.

So pretty much that I think white people are better than black people, which is calling me a racist.

Also, wouldn't only finding pictures of the lightest skinned mixed/black people support that "general message" that white or light skinned people are somehow better than black people like you're saying? You should be telling that to them.

You accused me of purporting the idea that whites are better than blacks....which is saying I am racist, or trying to.

All I said is that your comment was messed up. If you don't understand why, there's nothing else I can say. And yes, I'm fine with a female Doom. But, I doubt it'll happen.

We'll have to wait and see. At the very least, they could have a more toned down look (i.e. Beast).

I'm not saying "No Grodd" because he doesn't deserve to be here. Quite the opposite.

I'm afraid of the corners they'll have to cut to make it work on a small-screen budget. Assuming it's around the budget of Arrow, I don't think they'll be able to carry a full on CGI gorilla through a 30-minute to hour long episode for multiple episodes in a season. He shouldn't be a one-off villain for one time... he should be a recurring big bad. Maybe even the main villain of an entire arc. I don't see how that'd be viable for the TV show.

The movies are a different story. But for the TV show, I think the Rogues should be established first and be Barry's starter villains. And of course Thanwe/Killer Frost will be a thing. Possible Vibe if they make him antagonistic at first. That's a lot to have on the plate for a first season. Squeezing Grodd in would diminish the effect.

That's just the way I see it. Everyone is free to disagree, but I vote against the idea.

Can't we just use a guy in a suit with some CGI touch ups? This doesn't look so terrible after all.

No, no guys in suit. It's extremely difficult to:
1. Make it not look stupid.
2. Make the mouth movements match up to the dialogue, and have that not look stupid.

You guys are nuts if you think they're touching Grodd in the immediate future of this show.

Really depends on how you approach Grodd. If you want him to run and jump across rooftops, and hold entire monologues, a guy in a suit won't cut it. But if you have him mostly in a cage, and have him manipulate people to do things for him, you could get away with a guy in a suit. And then sparingly use CGI in scenes that absolutely require it.

He's telepathic, no need to make him talk physically. He could talk telepathically, Grodd can be done. Just not in season 1 maybe season 3 (if it gets that far).

If I was writing it that's how i'd do it.

I think you need to get people used to the more normal crazy elements before you have a telepathic gorrilla who wants to take over the city...

Lmao, if they actually have the balls to make Gorilla Grodd on this show...it can only result in two things: Either 1) The show will be ridiculed for the rest of time for actually having a talking gorilla as a big bad, orr 2) The show will have a huge ratings increase because dammit, it's an evil talking gorilla. Hell, It might be both.

I know comic book fans would absolutely love Gorilla Grodd...but come on. The general audience would laugh at it. Talking Gorilla's are only used for terrible comedies.

But hey, if there's anyone who can somehow pull this off, its the creators of Arrow. Give him a bad ass voice (James Spader-like), try to make it look as real as possible, and be as self-aware as possible with reactions, and you might make it.

Tell that to Planet of the Apes. A series of films with really depressing endings, interesting social/political comentary, and a wonder take on a love story. Far from comedy my friend.

Exactly. If you're going to do it at all, ease your way into it. You can't drop that **** on the audience in, like, episode 2 and expect them not to get whiplash.

Not really. This is 2014, AFTER films like Thor, The Avengers, Man of Steel, Hellboy, etc came out. All of those had weird stuff in them, and the audience bought it because the movies are entertaining. I'm not why Gorilla Grodd would so hard to buy after Loki, The Chituari, giant alien terraforming machines with hentai tentacle defense system, etc.
