The Batman Reboot Casting Thread

Not to mention his horrible acting.
Bingo.

But I agree with the general sentiment that he also looks too...soft. Batman should look manly. Even more so than Superman, because at least with Superman, boyishness can be passed off as wholesomeness. Jared Padalecki's got the same problem (and the whole acting problem too), and even Dominic Cooper does, too, imo.

If they went the unconventional route, I think Sam Riley (Control) could be an amazing choice for Batman. Incredible actor.

I think the best Batman choices should be convincing as villains too. He sports a Bruce-like look in Brighton Rock:

LMAO!!! OMG @ the BULLS**T casting choices I've read in this thread. I mean how can any of you take yourselves seriously? David Boreanz? Really? He SUCKS as an actor. The only good choice I've seen is James Caviezel. Viggo as Batman? wtf? I coulda seen Viggo as Jonah Hex (I'm still pissed at how WB mucked that one up).Ben Kingsly as Raz Al Ghul? Ben Kingsly as Mr. Freeze or Hugo Strange, maybe.

I still think Alexander Skasgard has some qualities that would really mesh well with Bruce Wayne/Batman without him being simply an immitation of the ones before. He's got a little Adam West in him, a little Bale, a little Conroy but also a creepiness on True Blood I think fits perfectly with the role. He's a villain at times, but a villain you want to root for. Plus he's very tall, I think that adds to the role.

I think you're over looking someone in that show

Now he looks and acts more like Bruce Wayne/Batman

Yeah, Moyer I could see as Bruce but it might be weird to recast the role with an older actor. Though I guess if you were going to introduce Robin and make Batman more of a father figure, it could work.

I doubt they'll go the Robin route since Nolan is producing.I wouldn't be against it though. I feel like Tony Zucco is the only crimelord left they haven't used.

But the next Batman will definitely have to be younger than Bale.. especially considering the earliest Batman IV could come out is 2015.

I know I'm gonna catch some serious flack for this. But I can see George Clooney play a serious older Batman. I don't blame him near as much as I blame Joel for B&R.

I actually think Clooney could have pulled off a decent Batman if they movie hadn't been crap, but it is what it is and recasting him in the role will just bring back bad memories. Better to start fresh.

Oh I agree it would bring back bad memories and make fans (of the movies and comics) steer clear of anything batman related with him in it. I'm only saying he could do a really good job given the right director and script.

Yeah, it's a shame it went down like it did, but well, if it hadn't happened that way, we probably wouldn't have gotten the two (and hopefully three) best Batman movies ever.

Also, thank God Armie Hammer never played Batman. I really don't think I could have taken him seriously. As Superman? Maybe. Aquaman? Sure why not. But Batman? Hell no.

Again I agree. While I prefer Batman Begins over TDK, it was still much better than the previous 4.
I think Hammer has the voice for Batman and some qualities as Bruce, I just can't see his performance being any better than Kilmer's.

Social Network is what proved to me he's talentless, which honestly pissed me off. He had a shot at two roles in the movie and he couldn't even do one justice.

I agree with Majik on Hammer in TSN, and that was his best role. I've seen him in 3 others, and he was just plain awful in those.

Like many of the best options, I think Moyer could have been good if he were younger. The current younger crop of up-and-coming talent just doesn't really have many dark Bruce Wayne types, unfortunately. Ryan Gosling's the closest they've got, imo, and he's not really the ideal fit, either.

Gosling is incredibly versatile and has playboy looks to boot. Plus the dark and sexy vibe he just oozes (when the role calls for it), puts any other candidate in his age range as a distant second.

He's still got that energetic intuition that fuels his performances, something I felt crapped out with Bale by the time he was cast.

It would take fairly big incentive to nab him however. He's turned down genre films before, and he wasn't too keen on the idea of putting on tights of any hero. It's imperative WB nabs someone of high caliber to follow Nolan's footsteps.

I could see Moyer, Gosling, Hamm, Hammer, or Michael Fassbender as Batman

I agree with all of this, actually. When I said he still wasn't an ideal fit, that didn't mean I wouldn't like him in the role. I mainly said that because his voice isn't at all Batman-esque, but that's not necessarily a deal-breaker to me. If it weren't for that, I'd think he was the obvious choice.

But you're right, he doesn't seem like he'd be interested, anyway.

I still have hope for Fassbender, though. He obviously goes for these types of roles and it's not like he'd be the first to play multiple comic book characters before. I know everyone wants to see him take over for Bond when Daniel Craig's done, and of course be a great choice for that, but we know there's about to be a need for a new Batman very soon. If Fox doesn't follow through with a First Class sequel, after all of his current projects are done, this would be the perfect time for him to step in.

Something to keep in mind when casting Batman.
Batman = Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, Harry Houdini, Dracula and Hamlet all rolled into one. Really wish WB could show more of the Holmes quality in Batman. If Nolan would have done that then he wouldn't have had to abandon Batman's supernatural ruse so soon.
Edit: and Bruce Lee (almost forgot one)

Gosling is completely wrong for the role. He's got that nasal-pitched whiny voice and the wrong looks. It's the equivalent of casting Nick Cage as Superman.

Fassbender definitely isn't an option. Matthew Vaughn is planning sequels to his X-Men film.

WB/DC had Fassbender in their grip, but Marvel won him in the end.

Looks and ACTS like Bruce more than Keaton, Val, or West EVER did.

Agreed.

What about Jake Gyllenhaal? He was the second place contender for Bruce Wayne/Batman role in Batman Begins, and I think he has plenty of acting chops.
