BvS The Batsuit Thread - Part 14

It makes sense for him to lie to those outside of the organization, but he attempted to recruit Bruce.

My best guess is once Bruce was on league of shadows, he would know who Ras really was. He never got told because he never killed the man he was told to execute.

I think the main purpose of the reveal was to serve thematic purposes; Ra's is a character shrouded in myth, so we don't know who he is. So we come to identify and enjoy the "Ducard"/Bruce scenes a bit more, since Ra's seems closer to Bruce's equal in the League than he would as the leader, playing up the surrogate father interpretation. It does allow the two name-droppings of Ra's beforehand to have some seriously intriguing affects, since we did see "Ra's" die. And Ra's "dying" allows the audience to treat the story more as a Batman story until the very end; otherwise, it comes off more as a regular ninja-genre story with the whole master versus pupil segment. And the casting and character names made it actually believable until you saw the film, and the whole twist made Ra's come off as an extremely cunning and theatrical villain, with the latter being a great thing to show since he's scaled down from the source material.

i always thought it was just in case someone wanted to assasinate rhas or do...something.. he would'nt die.

Bingo. That and it allows the real Ra's a certain amount of freedom/privacy

Then wouldn't it have made more sense to use the decoy in the first place?

Hmm...then perhaps we shouldn't have seen him until the very end of the movie (or TDKR, if they were feeling especially bold).

I don't think their relationship would have played out any differently if we had been aware of Ra's' identity from the start.

...the whole twist made Ra's come off as an extremely cunning and theatrical villain

That might actually be the most legitimate reason for his secrecy: his flair for the dramatic.

If you didn't see that "twist" coming from a country mile away, or the one in Rises... I'm not sure what to say, really.

I liked Neeson as Ra's, just like I like Christian Bale as Batman, but tempered by Nolan's need to seem way more clever than he actually is, "cunning" is not a word I'd used to describe either of these characters as portrayed in the film.

But to bring things back to the suit, they both had pretty cool gauntlets ;)

I knew Talia would be in TDKR (set photos), but I was taken by surprise in BB. To be fair, though, I was only 11 when it came out. :oldrazz:

Bruce's gauntlets looked pretty sweet before he painted over them.

Hah, fair enough! I was 21 and had already crammed 12 years of plot twists into my head by then.

To be fair, Rises took advantage of the lack of comic knowledge on the GA.

As for Begins..it was a pretty obvious twist to me. As soon as I heard "Gotham CITY must DIE!!!" I started laughing, knowing that someone that non-imposing would probably not be the main villian. Also, Ducard seemed more in tune with the LOS than "Ra's" seemed to be.

well i watched begins before i was really into batman and his characters so yeah...i had no clue.

I didn't know much about Ra's either, but it seemed like a pretty tried and true bait and switch to me.

It didn't take me out of the pic, though, and doesn't come close to approaching the top of my list if gripes lol.

Is that a legit concept art or just a fan concept? Still that's one awesome work.

If that was made into a costume it would be so barely different from the TDK suit as to be pointless even changing. It's a cool drawing but it's mostly just more of the same.

Whatever it is... it's awesome. belt and symbol are a bit off and i like the boots to come to one point, but other than that, that's basically perfect.

It is pretty similar to TDK. It goes to show that with a few changes TDK suit could have actually been good.

It's pretty cool... however It feel like this is the batsuit we were expecting to see in TDKR but never got.

I think it's kind of in line with the Arkham Origins suit rather than the TDK suit.

I feel like it's about half way between. Actual construction method would not be very different from TDK at all - it's just that its armour panels are a bit less detailed. That's just a cosmetic difference in sculpting.

Whereas, in the actual game renderings at least, most of the Origins suit's armour pads look like they're all encased in fabric, and not rigid material on the outside at all.

It's a cool illustration and all but there's definately a 'Big Daddy' vibe to it, because of the padding.

Well, Big Daddy was aping Batman. Both with his costume and some of his mannerisms.

Of course he was, but he was doing it with riot gear. You want Bats to start wearing hockey pads? ;)

Indeed; exact same concept we've seen for the past twenty-five years. Pass.

The TDK(R) suit looks like that design, but drawn by someone who can't draw.

Any recent news on a potential suit reveal? May it still posssibly occur at the end of this week like some have postulated?
