Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

Bosh, $760m! I was bang on. :cwink: This time next week the serious countdown to a billion begins before we start looking to exactly how much further (and higher and faster) CM might go!

It is already close to where I thought it would end up. With Venom, Aquaman, and now Captain Marvel, I've drastically undershot the last three CBMs.

Incredible second weekend numbers. It got so damn close to $800M, but its all good because its definitely going to crush past that barrier next week. Really hoping it hits $1.2B, but even if it only comes up short that would still be great. So much for that 70-80% drop most of the haters were expecting lol.

Maybe someone who's keeping tabs on channels like G & G can tell us what the new goalposts are now for CM to be a certified flop. :D

I didn't bother to click on Magnus' review of Captain Marvel because I already knew that it's going to be negative, but if what you said is true then I will not sub to him ever again. Same with Jeremy Jahns, the way he refused to even say anything nice about the movie and just compared it to WW while heaping praise on that movie was such a stupid thing to do that I unsubbed to him right away. Chris Stuckman and Aggressive comics also didn't like the movie, but at least they urged their audience to check it out (still disappointed in their reviews though). Campea and Grace both gave it mostly positive reviews. Screen Junkies though... really disappointed in Dan and Roth, particularly Dan. Saying that The Dark World and Iron Man 2 are better than CM, to me, is him putting this movie on the bottom of the barrel. I usually agree with Dan on his reviews but not this time.
Jahns was disappointing, I didn't bother to listen to Stuckman's review (his TLJ review was laughable), the best one I saw was Red Letter Media. Jay did make some good and constructive points.

But, but, but....I thought it was going to run out of gas around 750 and, therefore, wasn't going to make any money.

Ya know what one of the Hunt brothers said after they lost a ton of money trying to corner the silver market? "A billion dollars isn't what it used to be.". LOL. I am SOOOOO tempted to read some of the whining out there.......maybe one person should check it out and post a synopsis for us?

Hats off to this movie. I personally loved it and have been waiting for an eternity for its release.

A big reason why i stopped watching reviews until after I see the film is that it's gotten a little predictable in who would hate a film. I knew Johns and Magnus would hate this one from the beginning. Quite frankly i really don't see eye to eye with Screen Junkies anymore, and even Stuckman has soured me a little. I mean i think someone said Green Lantern was better than this. I can understand not liking this one but jeez. It's the trolling now that's annoying me. I want to see a new video now after this darn good drop!

Super salty, whiny cry baby tears.

I think nearly everybody undershot all 3 of those. They’ve all done better than expected. These would be good numbers for even the top 3 solo heroes,l.

Sheesh no kidding, I'm way off as well, but I felt if the movie was any good it would do $1B, but just based on being an MCU it would do no worse than $800M.

Now I feel my Endgame number is way off. Endgame might pass Avatar.

Passing Avatar won't be easy.

Graceless' one good area, box office analysis, touched on those misleading reports of the various drops in her latest video. She pretty much called out those type of reports.

Now they're just saying CM is another bad movie that made a billion dollars. At least they're admitting the movie will be profitable.

Which is exactly the same thing they would've said even if the movie had received universal critical acclaim, so...

I love this, but I am not looking forward to the whining when it knocks The Dark Knight out of the top ten.

Or maybe I am?

The incels and MRAs cannot win. The MCU needs its solo female hero. So we'll knock him out of the top 10. Because he can take it. Because that's what needs to happen. Because sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded. Because he's not a hero. He's a sleeping giant of an IP. A protected character. An evergreen franchise.

Highest-grossing superhero movies of all time:

1. Avengers: Infinity War — $2B
2. The Avengers — $1.5B
3. Avengers: Age of Ultron — $1.4B
4. Black Panther — $1.3B
5. Incredibles 2 — $1.24B
6. Iron Man 3 — $1.21B
7. Captain America: Civil War — $1.15B
8. Aquaman — $1.14B
9. The Dark Knight Rises — $1.08B
10. The Dark Knight — $1B
...
...
23. Captain Marvel — $760M

Carol is coming for blood.

Chances are all three DC movies will be kicked out of the top 10 by the time FFH comes out. The top 10 is gonna be an all MCU joint + I2.
