The Dark Knight Rises The Christopher Nolan Thread

Will you be excited about Nolan's Non-Batman films in the future?

  • Yes! He's a great director.

  • No! I like Nolan because of Batman.

  • Ehh, it depends on the movie.

I think he has the potential to be remembered alongside directors like Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock et cetera, if he isn't already.

I wholeheartedly agree, but unfortunately, I think the Age of Internet will prevent him from reaching Kubrick/Scorsese/Hitchcock status, simply because anonymous people can bash someone and taint peoples' views on a wider, faster platform. Best example? Imagine if the Internet existed back in Hitchcock or Kubrick's day. I doubt they would be the juggernauts we respect now.

Inception was the perfect example of a director who is on his way to be the next Stanley Kubrick. That movie was completely original while also being oddly familiar, with shades of 2001 and The Matrix, while also being its own work of art. In this age of mediocre blockbusters, Kubrick would've been tremendously proud if he were still alive to see it. I'm certain.

It was a very unusual experience for me in the theater, that's for sure. And it felt like me and the rest of the audience shared something unique that we haven't quite seen before... As soon as the credits rolled and the lights came on, everyone got out of their seats, and we all just looked at each other, like we all just witnessed something together. It sounds ridiculous, but it's the best way I can describe it.

Christopher Nolan is an amazing writer and director. It would simply be a shame if he just stayed as a producer for a while after The Dark Knight Rises, though. His films always keeps me on the edge of my seat ever since Following. And I really hope he plays a major part in an Inception video game, imo.

And Batman sequels.

Nolan doesn't need to do anymore sequels. His plan was to do a trilogy, end with a trilogy and that's all. I doubt Nolan is the type that would go back on his word.

I liked Prestige and moreso Memento. Don't care for Inception

Watch Following. And Insomnia if you haven't.

I love Nolans batman movies but I'd agree something different should be in store for future movies. maybe something less realistic. why tarnish Nolans name if they're bad...at least we have a chance for a fresh start

Well, it's been said that Nolan would be a producer for a new set of Batman films that will not tarnish Nolan's name and be set in a different universe that will not be so realistic, which is fine by me, imo, as it may give us a chance to see Mr. Freeze once more. If someone can do Bane right on film, then someone can do Freeze right as well.

Source? If so, DAMMIT.

Why? Do you dislike his Batman films?

Agreed, though I don't think that the internet is as big an obstacle as you think it is to Christopher Nolan's reputation.

I loved BB (best CBM ever made), but hated TDK. TDKR looks like it's going be amazing though.

My point is though, I want a completely new take on the character. I want a far less grounded version of the Bat universe.

Also, note to the next director: No more origin story please... PLEASE.

Mr Freeze HAS been done right in the animated series...that'd be hard to make work in a film though

No, not really. Freeze could've been amazing in Batman & Robin and it resembled TAS.

Not at all. They could literally copy BTAS' Mr. Freeze episode word for word and it'd make an amazing movie. Of course they'd have to add in a lot, but it could easily work.

he needs to hold that fool Snyder's leash on the superman movie

Really? I loved The Dark Knight! Why did you hate it?

I can see that point. I personally have enjoyed the grounded take, but I think that lessening that may be the best way for a new set of movies to differentiate themselves from The Dark Knight Saga, to avoid unfavorable comparison to those films.

That, I can wholeheartedly agree with.

Christopher Nolan is currently my favorite director due to his Batman Trilogy, Memento, and Inception.

Sorry, man. I'd love to discuss, but I've ranted about TDK enough. No one likes when I do it. XD

Agreed. It's a good thing Nolan is producer because that means no more terrible Batman movie. Well, no more campy ones at least.

You would hope so, but then again it depends on how involved he is. Like this Superman flick that is coming up for instance. He helped come up with a story for it and his name is stamped on it as a producer, but apparently he handed full control of it over to Snyder because he is so busy with TDKR and supposedly because he trusts Snyder. He might trust the guy, but I don't.

Indeed. Between a new director (and their style) and Christopher Nolan's influence as a producer, I wonder how different the film(s) after The Dark Knight Rises are going to be from the Dark Knight Trilogy?

I trust Snyder completely. And I doubt Nolan would allow his name to be stamped on crap. MOS will be great.

I agree. I trust Snyder as well, but I was talking about Nolan's successor as Batman film director. Though I do think that Snyder and Man of Steel might be a good indicator of what is to come for Nolan's successor and the post-Nolan Batman films.

For those interested, Nolan has multiple projects after TDKR.

1. Man of Steel
(Story writer, Producer, and "Godfather")

I don't believe he's that involved with MOS. Snyder is going to start shooting soon while Nolan is busy with TDKR at the same time. Nolan won't be on Snyder's shoulder watching his every move, the success of MOS is basically on Snyder.

Eh, I'm not really a follower of movie directors. I just watch whatever looks interesting. If he makes something else that looks interesting then I'll watch it.

I hope his best is yet to come, he'll go down as an all time great. I'll always watch his films.
