The Dark Knight Rises The Christopher Nolan Thread

Will you be excited about Nolan's Non-Batman films in the future?

  • Yes! He's a great director.

  • No! I like Nolan because of Batman.

  • Ehh, it depends on the movie.

I really hope TDKR is his last Batman film.

He is too good a director to be wasting much of his career doing one type of film. Three Nolan flicks is more than enough, plus it'd only be a matter of time before he slipped up and made a less than stellar batflick, which fans would tear him apart for.

Not to mention, itd be nice to see a more comic flavored batman franchise.

As soon as the credits rolled and the lights came on, everyone got out of their seats, and we all just looked at each other, like we all just witnessed something together. It sounds ridiculous, but it's the best way I can describe it.

lol you have no idea.

Personally, I am fine with Christopher Nolan leaving the director's chair after The Dark Knight Rises. I think that after he's done telling the stories he wants to tell, there's no point in insisting that he return because we can't imagine Batman films doing well without him in the director's chair.

My Top 7 Favorite Nolan movies (in no order):

As you can see, it's my favorite as well. Ironically, it's his lowest rated movie at Rotten Tomatoes at 75% but still Certified Fresh.

Memento was a pretty good movie but I wouldn't put it past Insomnia, Inception, or either of the Bat films. Don't get me wrong, it was a damn good film and one of the more creative ones that I've watched, but still, Nolan has done better in the past decade.

Yes or course Nolan is the master right now. I don't think he has made a bad movie. All of them are atleast intresting. Inception, would have to be the tops though, imo.

Yeah, Inception is tied with The Prestige for my favorite Nolan film. The Prestige kind of edges it out, though, IMO.

Honestly, I think if The Prestige was released after TDK, it would've been rated higher and would've done better commercially. I'd even go as far as to say that it could've scored some significant Academy Award nods.

It's just a beautiful movie all throughout. The script was tight, the way Nolan weaved the events together flawlessly and the acting was superb specially from both Jackman and Bale.

And it's so damn quotable! :D

Memento has a special place in my heart. It's what made me discover Nolan.

The Prestige is easily Nolan's most underrated film. It's a fantastic piece of work.

Like what? The whole "you don't know" scene and "are you watching closely" come to mind. What else?

And I didn't watch Memento until fairly recently (read: a year ago).

Tell me about it.

So you guys think that Nolan can best the third movie curse and deliver a great cap to the trilogy that might even surpass TDK?

Some of my favorite lines/scenes:

"Are you watching closely?"

"It was the greatest magic trick I've ever seen."

"Do you love me?"
"No, not today."

"The secret impresses no one. The trick you use it for is everything."

"Exact science, Mr Angier, is not an exact science."

"Oh, you think I can live like this? You think I bloody enjoy, living like this?" (this one I love more for how Bale delivered the line)

"You never understood, why we did this. The audience knows the truth: the world is simple. It's miserable, solid all the way through. But if you could fool them, even for a second, then you can make them wonder, and then you... then you got to see something really special... you really don't know?... it was... it was the look on their faces... "
(best scene from Jackman)

"Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back. That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige".

The ending voice over with Michael Caine was golden along with the disturbing shot of all the water tanks.

I heard Nolan's next movie is a buddy comedy starring Peter Dinklage and The Rock called Man Crush. It's about 2 Mexican wrestlers, 1 the champ and the other a no-named new comer, who forge an unlikely friendship as they travel from Tijuana to Mexico City. Also starring Paz de la Huerta and Edward James Olmos.

Following is alright. The little revelation at the end is good so you should watch it. I believe it's on streaming for Netflix.

I believe so... it's his delivery of a film that has some of us all in awe of him...:yay:
